Never say no to panda is an advertisement campaign that was created in 2010 by Advantage Marketing and Advertising for the Arab Dairy Company. The ad consists of sketches in which people having a regular day are offered Panda cheese and they turn it down. Thus, a huge angry panda appears on the screen and punishes those who dare to say no to Panda by breaking everything that surrounds them. The ads were spread all over the Internet, and although they had a sense of humor, they were criticized for being unethical due to the violence portrayed. The message of the ad was if you do not buy panda cheese, a giant panda would break all your groceries. From the psychological perspective, violence cannot be accepted as a humorous element in the media.
8-29 Corporate sponsorship of universities in the U.S. and the U.K. is commonplace. The universities have attracted millions of dollars. In China, universities are following suit. However, this process has been strongly criticized following the sponsorship of a building at Tsinghua University in 2011. The No. 4 Teaching Building was adorned with big gold letters proclaiming it to be the Jeanswest Building. The Chinese president attended the university. Within days of the sign going up it was defaced with spray paint. Students at the university believed the institution had sold out and that it was a laughing stock across China. The sign was taken down. The university was trying to raise U.S. $114 million in sponsorship and had offered the naming right of 14 of their buildings. Has Tsinghua University crossed the line and brought the institution into disrepute?
8-30 Across the globe there is a growing demand for free mobile phone content, mainly in the form of apps. In turn, this is having a marked influence on mobile advertising. In order to fund the free content, the developers are incorporating advertising.136 The biggest increase in mobile advertising is taking place in the Asia Pacific region. According to the analysts, Gartner, the region is the largest market for mobile advertising. They predict that mobile advertising will grow at a rate of 400 percent until 2016. At that point, the market will be worth an estimated U.S. $24.5 billion. How do you think the marketplace will react to this new advertising medium as it becomes more commonplace?
8-31 Against the backdrop of Chinese consumers’ fear of buying contaminated food, a new industry has emerged in 2013.
The Food Safety Modernization Act strives to make sure that the U.S. food supply is safe by redirecting the efforts of federal regulators from responding to contamination, to preventing it. There are four main elements of the Act. The first element provides new FDA controls over imported foods and six hundred foreign facility inspections (Levitt, 2011). The amount of inspections is proposed to double every year for five years. Under the Food Safety Modernization Act, new fees will be issued to food companies. Food companies will be required to have export certificates. Other fees will be associated with importation of foods (Levitt, 2011). However, the new act will allow for a fast lane for imports for those companies that subject themselves to more intense inspection and participate in the qualified importer program. Overall, the act will provide the FDA with more enforcement powers (Levitt, 2011). Power will come in the form of increased inspections of both domestic and foreign facilities and mandatory recalls if the FDA suspects a food, drug, or beverage may be tainted. Lastly, under the new act, ...
“Each year, around 50 million Americans get sick from eating unsafe food, resulting in more than 100,000 hospitalizations, 3,000 deaths and countless days of missed work.” (CDC, 2011). Here are some of the unsafe foods, making it into our food supply. Now there are 3 major
There has been significant concern in media about public health impact and decrease in people’s confidence regarding food safety. Recently, the number of cases of contaminated food has increased and product recalls have grown. For instance, babies in China were poisoned by the Sanlu´s contaminated milk four years ago (1), a contaminated Peanut from main distributor in United States that was used in hundreds of different products and industries. This has increased the focus on food safety by consumers, the industry, lawmakers and regulatory agencies.
If one was to pay attention over a day, the amount of ads that are seen throughout a day’s viewing are substantial. From the TV, to Instagram, Snap Chat, and Pandora ads are running all day. Christopher Heine data showed that the Rio Olympics garnered 916 million interactions on Instagram with 131 million people globally. Contrast that with Super Bowl 50, which in February had 155 million interactions by 38 million people, while the NBA Finals picked up 186 million interactions from 26 million people (Heine, C.
Technology has changed the global face of business from an industrial economy, paper-dominant process model to a real-time, information-rich digital model. These advancements have created and cannibalized many types of industries and businesses. The obsession with accurate and timely information continues to feed the tech revolution. For example, the cell phone has nearly driven the payphone into extinction. In 1998 there were 2.6 million pay phones in use, today there are less than a million. The commercial- free appeal of satellite radio along with I-pods continues to diminish the captive audience for traditional radio. E-businesses such as Amazon and I-tunes have wreaked havoc on traditional music and book stores. Internet search companies continue to drain advertising revenue from the newspaper industry and DVR and TiVO allow consumers to ignore endless commercials. The struggle for real-time information and consumer attention has caused major shifts in advertising expenditures and is now revolutionizing an unlikely medium, the billboard. The next big fight for survival could be “out of home” media. The formal definition of Alternative Out-of-Home Media (AOOH) sector includes “advertising vehicles developed or upgraded over the past decade through new technology and methods in an effort to target more mobile and captive demographics in less cluttered locations outside the home.” The lion’s share of this growing sector belongs to Digital Billboards (DBBs.) In the United States there are 410,000 static or traditional billboards and 400 digital billboards, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America Inc, and it is projected the number of DBBs could swell to 4,000 within 10 years. Based on the above examples as the DBBs market matures and economies of scale evolve, static billboards will become less profitable and less attractive to the industry. Opportunities will arise for advertisers, businesses, and communities to negotiate and design a leaner and greener network of billboards that both enhances our natural landscape and improves public safety.
“The United States' food safety regulatory system is in urgent need of reform ... Congress needs to act now to modernize the FDA and fund it sufficiently. The cost of inaction is high, both financially and in terms of illnesses and deaths Americans have endured during the numerous contaminated food outbreaks that have recently occurred.” (DeWaal 1) Flaws in the food system are causing an incredible amount of illness within the US. The US people cannot wait any longer for the solutions to our broken food system. (DeWaal 1) “Reform of the food safety system is overdue. CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] estimates that foodborne diseases cause 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths annually. Economists believe that these illnesses pose a huge burden to society, with estimates for emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and lost work ranging from 40 billion to well over 100 billion dollars annually. Even if these numbers were cut in half, they are still too high. These are illnesses and deaths that are largely preventable.” (DeWaal 1) All we need to do is make a change so our food system does not remain corrupt and we would automatically fix so many current issues. Millions of lives could easily be saved, as well as money due to the decrease of hospital visits caused by contaminated and
There was once a time when companies used to spend heavily on publishing, compelling, ads on newspapers and magazines just to put the word out there, but times have changed and so have the medium used to broadcast these ads. Nowadays, companies use the internet to spread the news, to be more specific, companies use the social media as an advertising tool. Over the years, social media has vastly changed the way we communicate and interact with one another, some examples of such social media might be Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube etc. This kind of interacting tools are now been used by businesses to sell or advertise their products, one might say that the social media is the modern day substitute for newspapers and magazines. One company that has been doing this heavily is Android (owned by Google), Android ads can be seen in every corner of the internet whether be famous sites like Facebook or now extinct ones such as Myspace, although one such social media that they haven’t been using is XDA developers. The site predominantly focuses on software development and discussion for Android, Windows, Ubuntu Touch, and Bada phones etc. The following paper will discuss and analyze their audience and argue why XDA developers is the best social media platform to advertise smartphone operating system companies such as Android to the general public and developers.
Food matters. Nevertheless, food safety in China is worse than what you thought; you can never imagine how toxic it is. Although there are variety choices of restaurant for us to eat nowadays, many people still choose to eat at home. Not only to save money, but also be sensible for their own health. Think about our situation now, we can constantly buy meats that we think is fresh and yummy, but who knows if it’s healthy and safe? Is it truly what you want? What materials will the restaurant serves you? Food safety affects people a lot. Nowadays, especially in China, many citizens are already despair in this affair. As stated in Kitis’ journal ‘Ads- Part of our lives’ (2012), ‘Ads affect us all in different ways.’ (pg. 305). Advertising is reached to us at least one thousand times or more a day, whether we think about it or not. Mobile advertisement is now a huge part of our lives, especially being young adults. With technology on the rise, and every young adult owning and using a mobile phone, companies are taking advantage of the ever-growing trends and apps. Research from SmartInsight shows the average adult in Australia uses their mobile devices 2.8 hours a day. With this growing from 0.3 hours a day in 2008, it is obvious mobile usage is massively growing, and continues to grow.
In 2013, the food safety problem happening in Taiwan had raised the whole society’s concerns, and this serious issue also had caused a high degree of attention from the media in different countries. The industries involved in this scandal included cooking oils, alcoholic drinks, and other daily necessities. Among these categories, the food scandal occurring in the cooking oil industry was the most serious one as many famous oil manufacturers were all involved in this incident. All of these food safety scandals had made consumers lose trust in the government and be worried about their health.
Advertising has been round for centuries; starting with print ads, then evolving into radio and TV adverts. Each form of advertisement requires several different strategies in order to make the advertisement effective and appealing to the consumer. With the ever popular rising of the usage of the internet, online advertisements have also become more popular. According to Dr. David Evans, who received his Ph.D. in Economics, e-commerce, or sales processed online, were equal to 34 billion dollars as of 2008. (Evans, 2) This amount has only grown and will continue to grow as the usage of the internet becomes more and more popular. The heart around this monumental sum of revenue is online advertising. Advertising agencies optimize their online
Nowadays, advertising is a very big business. Very often is the major means of competing among firms. Furthermore, supporters of advertising claim that it brings specific benefits for consumers.
It is important to truly understand what food contamination is, how the food becomes contaminated, what contaminated food does to the human body, ways to prevent food contamination, how it is bad to the individual’s health, and how you can help the world today when preventing food contamination. Healthier people make for a happier and healthier world. The larger scale food contamination becomes the scarier and more serious it may become too. People are not taking this matter as serious as some should. Grocery stores even “recolor”, add seasoning, or inject old expired meat to make it look fresh again. They then put it back on the shelves for people to buy. It is all about money now days to people rather than the life of the
