Vincent van Gogh is one of the most famous artists of all time. He was born in 1853, in the town Groot-Zundert, Netherlands. He inherited his artistic abilities from his mother, who was also a very talented artist by the name of Anna Cornelia Carbentus. Van Gogh is well known for having psychological problems. His problems began at a really young age and it is something that he battled with all throughout his life, and it is revealed in his artwork. Although van Gogh is one of the most famous artists of all time, very few people were familiar with his work until after his death. Very few people knew of Vincent van Gogh until after his passing, but during his ten year art career he created quite the collection. “Van Gogh produced about 1,000 drawings, sketches and watercolors, as well as around 1,250 other paintings.” (Dewitte 2012) Van Gogh’s works are displayed in museums all around the world, and are some of the most expensive pieces to purchase. In his art, Van Gogh uses different techniques that he kind of trademarked his work. Van Gogh uses colors that will create an emotional response to the art piece; he wanted the colors to make the viewer fully grasp the concept of the piece. Another technique van Gogh used frequently is the use of lines to show behaviors in his paintings. For example: in his paining The Bedroom, Vincent van Gogh uses both the use of lines and the use of color to set the mood for the work of art. Van Gogh uses strong vertical lines that show the viewer that it is not a peaceful room, and the diagonal lines on the window and the picture frames on the wall portray the room as being a chaotic atmosphere. He died a few days later at the young age of 37 years old. Like many famous artists, Vincent van Gogh became famous after his death. He has been famed for his signature painting techniques and his twisted artistic backstory. He is considered one of the most prominent painters in history and his artwork sells for millions of dollars. Vincent van Gogh’s psychological and emotional issues, even though they eventually led to his suicide, inspired him create some of the world’s greatest works of art.
