Analysis of Sonnet 65 Since brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea, But sad mortality o'ersways their power, How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea, Whose action is no stronger than a flower? Oh how shall summer's honey breath hold out Against the wrackful siege of battering days, When rocks impregnable are not so stout Nor gates of steel so strong but time decays? Oh fearful meditation! where, alack, Shall Time's best jewel from Time's chest lie hid? Or what strong hand can hold his swift foot back? Or who his spoil of beauty can forbid? Oh none, unless this miracle have might- That in black ink my love may still shine bright. This sonnet shares several similarities in imagery as sonnets 63 and 66, and also to the theme of time and Rome as seen in Spencer's translatory sonnet sequence, _Ruins of Rome by: Bellay_. To best understand this sonnet we must realize to what or whom the pronouns refer to. My explication relies on "their" in line 2 referring to both time and ruin, a theme sustained from sonnet 64. 1-2: 'Only depressing mortality can overturn the tyranny of time and ruin, considering that brass, stone, earth or sea cannot prevent it'. Thus, death is an escape from time and the ruin which it imposes. The second quatrain is reminiscent of the thematic imagery of Rome's susception to time in sonnet 9 of _Ruines of Rome_: "Why were not these Romane palaces / Made of some matter no lesse fime and strong? . . . All things which beneath the Moone haue being / Are temporall, and subject to decay." Echoing the elements in the first line of the sonnet, Shakespeare is iterating the inability to avoid and prevent time. "Battering days" also shares this imagery as "Time's injurious hand crush'd"; which, to note further, appears as "iniurious time" in Spencer's work. Knowing this, he appeals to dreadful and injurious knowledge in line 9: 'where should we hide time's most precious jewel [our youth] from the vault it is held in'. the reason I believe the jewel to be a symbol of youth stems from sonnet 63, in which time steals "away the treasure of his spring." Spring here, and in many other sonnets of Shakespeare, refers to youth and sexual prime.
The overall teen birth rate has declined by 16 percent from 1991 to 1997. “All states are recording a decline and it is the sixth year in a row that the teen birth rate has declined,” stated Donna Shalala, HHS secretary of U. S. Newswire. Although the birthrate among teens is decreasing and the percentage of teenagers who have had sexual intercourse is declining, it is a multi-fauceted problem affecting today’s youth. The government is taking in to consideration all possibilities and conditions with teen births to make an affective way to prevent it.
Seven hundred fifty thousand teenagers, ages fifteen to nineteen, become pregnant each year (“Facts”). Teenage birth specialists have often debated whether or not teenagers should have access to birth control and other contraceptives. Although some people think teenagers having birth control will promote promiscuity, birth control should be accessible to teens because they will put themselves at a higher risk for disease and pregnancy without it, and more teenage girls would get a high school diploma with it.
Teenagers have to be knowledged about the bad things that can result from teen pregnancy. There are numerous ideas we can do. Schools programs, and organizations can become more involved with prevention. Yes, there is policies like the absinience policy. Thats obviously not enough to help. Even though there is a decline in teen pregnancy in the United States doesn’t mean we can’t keep help preventing. Let’s all bring awareness before its too late.
Teen pregnancy continues to be an issue. Although teen pregnancy has been cut nearly in half in the last 25 years, it still continues to be a huge economic and public policy issue. “U.S. teen birth rates remain disproportionately high compared with other developed countries” (“Study Examines”), as many studies observed. But it’s clear that public awareness of the issue, its causes and its effects, along with outreach programs to instruct teens on the risks and dangers of teen pregnancy and unsafe sex can have dramatic effects on the issue and lead to massive reductions in the problem. Continuing on this path and increasing public knowledge on these issues is a surefire way to continue to decrease the number of girls who become pregnant before they become adults, and continue to secure greater economic access to women in the future.
In this day and age the rate of teenagers who become pregnant has substantially increased. I myself am not one of them, but having a few friends who became pregnant at a very young age I've learned quite a bit about it. Now, I am not saying that teenage pregnancy is wrong or right. For some teenagers it could be a very joyful experience if they are mature enough to handle it. It can teach them lessons about life and responsibility. For the less mature teens though, it's a disaster. In that case, they shouldn't have been having sex in the first place if they weren't up to facing the consequences. Some may say, "How did this happen? We used protection?" Condoms and birth control are not 100% effective when it comes to avoiding pregnancy. Many of these methods have flaws which can result in becoming impregnated. Being a teenager with a child can be very hard. And in almost all cases, it is. A person has a new responsibility. A responsibility so large that other things in your life seem vaguely important in comparison. A person is responsible for a child, a human being, a life. We live in a tough world and we all have tough lives. Teenage pregnancy at times goes unrecognized because the birth rate is still high. Even though “The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) directly funds teen pregnancy prevention programs in nearly 2,234 communities [which is] about 47 percent of all communities across the country”, there is still a large number of teenage pregnancies occurring (Almanac of Policy Issues). One of the reasons teen pregnancy is so illusive to many people is that most teenagers by the age of sixteen have had sex; abstinence isn’t part of our vocabulary.
Adolescent pregnancy is an issue with many reasons. Adolescent pregnancy isn 't pregnant see in young ladies age 19 and younger. There are several issues that teens face today and some of those may be the cause of the rise in teen pregnancy. The most common is pressure from young boys wanting to prove to the girls that they can have whatever they want. Many girls are pressured at school by their so-called friends. Every child is a blessing from God they are not a mistake they are only a result of a bad choice. Up to two thirds of teen pregnancy occur in teens 18 and 19. Most teams have older male partners and be poor in
Every year 750,000 teenage lives come to a standstill when they become pregnant. Could these unplanned pregnancies among our youth be prevented? Why don’t more schools provide access to information about contraceptives? Statistics show, teens that are aware of the risks of teen pregnancy and have access to birth control are much less likely to experience an unplanned pregnancy. Providing contraceptives and sexual education to high school students can significantly reduce the amount of teen pregnancies. So how can we help these teens educate themselves about the consequences of sexual activity?
Second of all, getting pregnant at a young age might be one of the possible child abuse of these young mothers. some teenage pregnancies may result from rape. Most teenagers may expose themselves, unknowingly, to situations where they are sexually abused. They may go to wrong clubs or in unsupervised camps for fun and get raped in the process. Lastly, teenagers tend to experiment with drugs and alcohol, resulting to inability to control impulses. Thus, it is becoming easy for them to engage in unprotected sex. Precisely, when addressing the issue of teenage pregnancy, underlying problems such as peer pressure, parents’ absenteeism, glamorization of pregnancy, and rape must be considered.
The talk shows today are flooded by episodes dealing with teen pregnancies. The teenage rate in the United States declined in 1993 and 1994. Unfortunately, the number of birth decreased only to older teens, ages 18 and 19. Babies born to teens younger than 17 actually increased, reflecting a growing population of younger girls who are what we now euphemistically call “sexually active.” The number of girls aged 14-17 will increase by more than a million between 1996 and 2005.
Three out of ten teen American girls will get pregnant at least once before age twenty. That is nearly seven hundred- fifty thousand teen pregnancies every year. Teen pregnancy has become a big issue in the United States. With teen pregnancy, teens are getting pregnant, dropping out of school, struggling to find jobs, and are seeking a family member or friend to help take care of the baby. The amount of teenagers dropping out of school is a major issue, because the teens are unable to attend school fully. There are several solutions to this problem which consist of giving out birth control and contraceptives to all the young adults as well as as abstinence.
For example, Teenagers often experience low self-esteem towards themselves due to their parents not showing them enough love and affection, this will eventually cause the teens to seek it out with their peer group, which will lead to teens having sex before they are ready (Cummins). I believe all parents should be affectionate towards their children. They should also remind their children how much they 're loved by them. Another important cause of teen pregnancy is absent parents. For example, many parents are too busy to provide the guidance and support their child needs to make good decisions about sex (Langham). I believe if a child can 't talk to their parents about sex, they will eventually turn to their friends which could lead to them becoming pregnant. Most teens experience peer pressure before they become pregnant. For instance, It is found that twenty nine percent of pregnant teens felt pressured into having sex before they were actually ready (Langham). More teens should learn to speak up if they don 't feel comfortable having sexual intercourse with their partner. Sexual Abuse or Rape is the most intense cause of teen pregnancy. In fact, forty- three to sixty- two percent of teens stated that they were impregnated by a male adult. It is also found that at least five percent of all teen births resulted in rape (Langham). If a female is raped she can always have the option to place the baby up for adoption.

Usually, a teenage boy pressures a naïve, underage girl to engage in sexually activities with him. “Three out of four girls (75 percent) report that the reason they have sex is because their boyfriends want them to” (“Teen Pregnancy”). Postponing school will lead to a delay in finishing their high school or college degree. Without a high school or college degree or a job, it is difficult for a teenage parent to provide her child with the basic necessities for life. The father of the child is so penniless himself that he cannot afford legal support payments. Not only does this take a toll on the parent’s life, but the child’s life as well. As a result, “ the daughters of young teen mothers are three times more likely to become teen mothers themselves, and the sons of teen mothers are twice as likely to end up in prison” (“Teen Pregnancy”). The cycle of this trend precedes each year, yet the use of wisdom and contraception will help decline this outrageous, teenage pregnancy
Babies are born more likely to be born premature and/or suffer low birth weight. There are a lot of problems involved with children having children. There is a higher risk of low birth rate, premature labor, and stillbirth. The problem is teenage girls are not done growing and fully maturing, there for, when they become pregnant it induces problems not only on the baby but the mother as well. *A general rule: The younger the mother, the greater risk of complications for both the mother and child. Often pregnant teenage mothers deny the fact that they are indeed pregnant, therefor ignoring the proper care that she needs for the growing baby inside of her. There are no easy answers; that’s one thing that everyone agrees on when it comes to the problem of teen pregnancy. The Center of Disease Control and prevention affirmed on June 26 what other agencies, such as the National Center for Health Statistics, have been saying over the course of this year: “The teen pregnancy rate is dropping. The number of teenage girls across the country who became pregnant fell 12 percent between 1991 and 1996. This drops affects girls, of different races and socioeconomic backgrounds, in all states. But the problem remains; The U.S. teen pregnancy rate is the highest of any industrialized countries. Babies born in the U.S. to teenager mothers are at risk for long-term problems in many major areas of life, including school failure, poverty, and physical or mental illness. The teenage mothers themselves are also at risk for these problems.
Preventing teenage pregnancy has been a goal for many years now. Statistics have tried to keep up with the change in the teenage generation. Many people have different opinions on the subject of teen pregnancy, because to some people teens seem to be getting pregnant expeditiously in these times. People fail to realize that having a baby is a privilege to many people and not a problem. Many people take having a baby as a lightly. Getting pregnant and having a kid has many pros/cons. Having a child can be very hard on some people and cause them to break. When babies are brought into this world there are a lot of things to worry about. The greatest problem associated with teen pregnancy is financial instability. Most teens do not have the salary to support a child. In the prevention of teen pregnancy there are many things that are helpful. Abstinence is a for sure way of not getting pregnant. There are also other helpful ways to help prevent teen pregnancy, such as sex education and birth control. All of these things are essential in the helping to prevent teenage pregnancy.
