There are many different stress factors that occur every day in people’s lives. Some are considered stressful situations while others may become a crisis in their lives. I am going to talk about a crisis that that my family and I experienced a couple of years back.
Going back about five years ago, I found out that I was pregnant. At that time I was not married and already had three children from a previous marriage. At the time my fiancé and I had been together about two years. I did not plan to have any more children. We were not married yet and were not ready to have a child together. My fiancé’s last relationship was a long one. Seven years with the same girl, so I was a little concerned that he was not fully ready to settle down. I also came out of a long relationship. I was concerned that my fiancé would not be able to handle the stress and dedication needed to walk into an already made family. A lot of adjustment would be necessary on both of our parts. We decided that in the interest of all parties involved, we would wait until after the arrival of the new all parties involved, we would wait until after the arrival of the new little one to get married. Well, it did not happen exactly as planned.
As you might expect, raising a large family is not a financially easy thing to do. Money began to set up unimaginable roadblocks for our relationship. As the pregnancy continued, it became more difficult for me to work. Soon I had to quit my job completely. To make matters worse, my fiancé’s job was not very stable. The bills piled up and the rent always seemed to be late. The children complained that they were tired of eating spaghetti and sauce every night for dinner. All we seemed to do during this bleak period In our lives is argue and disagree about money that neither of us had. We could do nothing about it, but still felt so overwhelmed and stressed that it caused a major disruption to our lives. We owned two vehicles, neither of which were reliable. When one broke down, we would operate on one. I would take him to work in the morning, then go to work myself. I would pick up the kids from school, take them home, and then have to pick up my fiancé from work.
Stressors are both physiological and psychological demands placed on an individual from both internal and external environments that can disturb homeostasis. This disruption requires an action to return the body to a balance. Being able to recognize, understand, and cope with stress is critical to overall health and well being of an individual. The ability to cope with stress productively can alter the outcome of illness and prevent negative health outcomes altogether. Each person experiences and perceives stress differently both physiologically, psychologically, and can portray it differently externally. Stress means different things to different people and stress effects people in different ways. Some people think stress is something that happens to them such as an injury or a promotion and others think that stress is what happens to our mind, body and behaviors in response to an event. While stress does involve events and how one responds to them these are not the critical factors, but our thoughts about the situation in which we are involved are the critical factors. Essentially, stress exists whenever homeostasis is disturbed or cannot be maintained (Stress and the Social System Course Guide, 2013). Homeostasis refers to the body's ability to keep the internal chemical and physical environments constant. As your body begins to react to stress several changes occur. These changes include increased heart rate, blood pressure and secretion of stimulatory hormones. Ones body prepares itself in stressful situations to either stand ground and fight or to flee from the situation. Walter Cannon called this stressful reaction the fight-or-flight response (Greenberg, 2012).
Across family life-cycle literature, the arrival of a first child into the marital structure is considered to be one of the most common and key stages a family will experience during its development. Further, it also possesses the potential to be one of the most stressful examples of change within the marital relationship with the experience of having a baby being ranked at 6th out of 102 stressful life events1.

This research paper concerns how individuals perceive stress and the serious effect on their psychological thought process and physical and mental health and how they can cope with their anxiety driven thoughts. Research was gathered using printed material obtained at the Syracuse Bird Library, and also using various online sources and scholarly journals. One printed source written by Frank Campbell addresses the health effects stress can have on an individual while author Richard Lazarus explores coping mechanisms individuals can use to attempt to get rid of the their stress. Author Bruce G. Charlton in his publication in the Journal of Medical Ethics, claims that stress is an empty word, with little value and explains the origin of the Stress. Robert Lazarus explains the concept of stress along with the ambiguity associated with the word. Ruth O’Hara explains what situations causes stress. While authors Carolyn Aldwin and Sandi Mann discuss coping and how to alleviate stress.
For me to focus my research, and my paper in particular, it would be important that I develop a research question to be a guideline as I carry out the research. The reason why I feel that a research question will be important is that it will help me direct all my effort to the topic at hand by collectively reading and evaluating different sources of data. The research I intend to discuss in this case is, “What are the Causes and Symptoms of Stress?” When coming up with the research paper, it would be important that I answer a few questions as discussed here below.

It can also affect our personal relationships without even us realizing that it was the main issue. Stress is “a person’s response to events that are threatening or challenging” (Feldman, 2010). Since there are many different type of stressors, they can be places in different categories. Stressors can be categorized as cataclysmic events, personal stressors, or even as background stressors (“daily hassles”). Though no matter what type of stress one has, there is always a way to cope to get through it and keep it from harming our relationships. Even if it is an everyday occurrence or a once in a while occurrence.
Stress comes in many shapes and forms, it comes with the job of being human. My sources of stress come from the major parts of my life; academic pressure, social settings, and time management. As a high school student, high school in general is very stressful, but not only am I high school student I am also a college student. Double the responsibility means double the stress.

Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.
