ABSTRACT
Innovation is not always successful everywhere unless it meets the requirements of the objectives of learning and teaching at a particular place. Each environment is different from the other. It is not always successful to apply a good innovation from one place to another.
In the requirements of all kinds of tests in Viet Nam nowadays which are so much focused on grammar, the needs and interests of learners in learning grammar are very high. Also, there are so many different kinds of learners coming to language centers in Viet Nam to study English for their own purposes. Many of them could take their time to study English intensively while many others take it extensively. They only come to the English classes two or three evenings a week. However, their needs of learning grammar to pass the tests of National Certificates are great. Also, most of learners from high school and secondary schools need grammar background to do well their schoolwork. Therefore, the researcher would like to make an innovation of Grammar Textbooks to meet the requirements of learners’ needs and interests at the 4th Division of Nong Lam University – Center for Foreign Studies in Bien Hoa city. The researcher applied the problem-solving model to do this action research.
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this study was to see if the grammar innovation worked well with students at Nong Lam University – Center for Foreign Studies, at the division 4, at Bien Hoa city, and to see if the traditional methods in teaching grammar were still effective in such a place with particular students in this area in Viet Nam.
All the grammar courses were designed for the intensive students at Nong Lam University – Center for Foreign Studies. Most students here are university students. They study English for their graduation and for their job interviews. These students take 20 periods each week for their English studies. They spend 12 weeks each course with 240 periods on learning intensive English. Most of the materials are designed for communicative approach. These students have to take 2 courses in order to complete their elementary level of English in order to have enough background to learn TOEFL. During each course, they have 36 periods to work with grammar. In other words, they have totally 72 periods to finish their Basic English Grammar (two courses). The Center has been using the grammar book “Fundamentals of English Grammar” of Betty Schrampfer Azar.
On June 15, 2016, she, a black cis woman, shared a series of tweets, including one from a TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist). TERFs hijack popular feminist posts and use them to rally against trans women (usually by wording their posts to include trans women with cis men). The only safe policy to prevent the spread of transmisogyny is to call out TERFs and to refuse to share their content (or at least strip attribution first).
Hate violence is a predominant issue against transgender women who wish for acceptance from society. Individuals believe they have the right to perform violence against these transgender women because of who they are. For example, in the novel Stone Butch Blues, Jess Goldberg is physically a women but prefers to live life as a male. Since Jess chooses to live life as a male, or butch, she is frequently a target of policeman and other individuals because of her identity. The society views Jess as a criminal because during the 1960’s homosexuality was illegal and it was considered a mental disorder. Apparently, our society has made much more progress today against transgender women, but they still face a multitude of hate violence. A major example
Jenner...shouldn't get to define us.” (Paragraph 9) It implies that she is resistant of being define by trans women and denied trans community. I think that is offensive to transgender people because their words can be wrong, but we can't ignore them from our community and hurts their feelings. However, Jill Filipovic in response to Burkett thinks Transgenders people are being discriminated. In the article, she said "...suffers the kind of violence and discrimination heaped on trans women should of course, make transgender rights a feminist issue." (Paragraph 13) That states how unfair trans people are treated and the needed support for trans women to be part of the women group. Even if trans women are not originated women, but their positive attitude and efforts should be appreciated and be recognized as the sign of society
But not only is the news organizations not reporting on this but Black Lives Matter did not show much support, which brought about even a bigger fight from the black gay community. A fight to show that now only do “black lives matter” but “all black lives matter”, to include women and transgender black people. This type of intersectionality is similar to the oppression of what women of color went through in the past. Not only women of color discriminated against because of race but they had to contend of being discriminated against because of gender also. In this current age, this is what the black transgender community has to contend with also, even among the Black Lives Community
According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years,” meaning that America’s children need to start eating healthier, including healthier school lunches. The National School Lunch Act is a fairly recent addition to American society. For, as the world waged war a second time, the United States began to worry about the strength and health of the country’s soldiers. However, in the beginning, selling excess agricultural goods was more important than building a healthy, well-balanced meal for students. Unfortunately, many children coming from poorer families could not afford well-balanced school lunches, so in order to compensate, the School Lunch Program changed its focus to help these students. This program, however, decreased schools’ lunch budgets, and schools had a hard time keeping up with the amount of free meals they had to provide, so they came up with some extra ways to increase revenue. However, in a small town in Massachusetts, one chef makes a difference in the health of the school lunch students eat each day, and proves that hiring a trained chef to cook real, healthy meals can increase profit. Unfortunately, that is not the case in most schools across the nation. The quality of health of the food being served in school lunches is extremely poor and was allowed to decline even more with a new set of rule changes. However, there are some improvements currently being made to increase the quality of health of the food being served to students, including teaching them all about food and its nutritional information, both good and bad. In order for students to eat healthier lunches at school, the USDA needs to implement healthier ...
The incorporation of feminist ideologies in advertising has allowed for an appropriation of feminism that has exploited the movement into what Goldman, Heath and Smith describe as a means of fetishizing feminism by turning feminism into a commodity value (1991, pg. 336). In the article on “Commodity Feminism”, Goldman et al., (1991) argues that through commodity feminism, “Feminism is reduced to the status of a mere signifier or signified” (pg. 336). The recent upsurge of the feminist movement has permitted marketers to incorporate the current trend and social values of feminism into their advertisements, all while binding it to the commodity that they are attempting to push forward. Commodity feminism can be seen as stripping the movement away from being a tool for social and political change, and rather reconstructing it in a way that presents the commodity being advertised as a form of feminist revolution and activism. With Swimsuits For All’s efforts to convey the message of self-acceptance through it’s body-positive advertisement,
Moreover, the controversy over cafeteria food is whether or not it is healthy for all students from elementary schools to colleges. Numerous factors lead to unhealthy eating in schools and on campuses. Sometimes options with better nutrition are offered, but when there are, they tend to be less appealing than the unhealthy foods which turns to obesity. Many schools are undergoing budget cuts and changes, and healthy food tends to take a back burner when deciding where the limited amounts of money should go (Gupta). Unfortunately, when schools do have healthy ingredients, the food is usually prep...
The “Who Needs Feminism” Campaign was started in 2012 by students at Duke University, Durham, to “reclaim the word ‘feminism’ and to reduce and revise the antagonism and apprehensions towards the term”. Participants were asked to finish the phrase “I need feminism because…” on posters that were later submitted to the Who Needs Feminism social media platforms. Sparking considerable attention in the media, feminists used this campaign to assert the relevant issues considered in third wave feminism, to a previously apprehensive audience, and challenge stereotypes surrounding feminists as “angry lesbians with hairy armpits.” The word “Feminism” is still regarded with negative connotations, typically concerning significant social fallacies of the term. As seen in the 2014 social media, retaliation movement #WomenAgainstFeminism, there is a considerable social consensus that Feminism is irrelevant to 21st Century society. Statements featured in anti-feminist posters of the #WomenAgainstFeminism movement included “I am not a victim”, “I am not superior to men”, “I don’t hate men” and “I believe in equality not superiority”. This movement initiated a strong counter-debate from the global feminist community, arguing that the main goals and aims of feminism had not been fully understood. Whilst previous feminist movements have endorsed radical, misandristic and queer-phobic arguments, the intersectional third wave feminist approach, instead encourages unprejudiced and non-discriminatory empowerment of all women, particularly affirming “You don’t have to be anti-man to be pro-woman.” Following the Harvey Weinstein “sexual harassment epidemic”, 2018 has given rise to the #MeToo and Time’s Up anti-sexual assault movements, addressing rape-culture, that is, the normalisation of male sexual violence and victim blaming in society. The #MeToo and Time’s Up movements emphasise sexualisation as a
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.

After my first published staff editorial last issue, I was excited to write a column again. Transgender rights, my assignment, is an issue I take personally because it affects many people, including my loved ones. At first, I was intimidated to approach this topic after seeing the responses to Mark my Words. Of course, I understood that people may not be completely accepting of transgenderism, but I had not anticipated some of the rather disgusting remarks made by students at our own school. So, keeping in mind that these transphobic students could be reading my article, I made the primary goal to educate the audience about transgenderism while also explaining why transgender people deserve the rights they are asking for. Although I was irked
This story caused a lot of controversy but got people thinking about the transgender community and the importance to

It is not uncommon to say that grammar instruction plays an important role in language teaching. Regarding the status and importance of grammar teaching, a variety of opinions have been made. Batstone (1994) states that “language without grammar would be chaotic: countless words without the indispensable guidelines for how they can be ordered and modified” (p. 4). More vividly, Wang (2010) makes two similes. She compares grammar to the frame of a house, which is a decisive factor to ensure the solidness of it. Additionally, she regards grammar as a walking stick, whose function is to help and support students to learn English. Thus, the nature of grammar instruction manifests its own significance as it helps students enhance their overall language proficiency by integrating grammar into other aspects of learning, like listening, speaking, reading and writing.
