What is an avalanche? , well it's a large mass of snow and ice or of earth or
rock sliding down a mountain side or a cliff. And how does an avalanche occur,
well mainly they happen by vibrations caused by movement of the earth such as an
earthquake, gunfire, rainy weather, and many more.
Now I would like to talk a little about past avalanches and landslides that have
occurred like the 1903 Frank landslide and avalanche that happened at the same
time, in Alberta Canada it destroyed the parks canyons it's beautiful trees'
it's wonderful sights and killed nearly one hundred people, and covered a small
town near Alberta with ice and snow.
Another devastating avalanche incident is the 1964 Sherman slide, in which a
huge avalanche was triggered by the 1964 Alaskan earthquake. The slide spilled
out onto the Sherman glacier, during the big slide several other smaller slides
happened and those were the one that took lives in Anchorage, and destroyed
property
There are a couple of types of avalanches and how the destroy so much this one
is named "Loose Snow Avalanches"1, it starts' in a small area then grows in size
and mass as it descends.Another type is the "Slab Avalanche" it actually starts
in a large area of ice and snow and then begins to slide.
On September 12 of 1717 crusaded down the Troilet, Italy glacier, gaining speed
on a cushion of air reaching a falling velocity of km/hr over a 3600 m fall.
Two towns were destroyed, with seven people killed and a 120 cows lost. The
slosh of an avalanche ran up the far side of the valley at a speed of 125 km/hr.
In developed areas such as ski resorts it is possible to predict avalanches
because they are controlled with explosives and artillery. In a back-country
areas it is possible to predict avalanches because the forecast relies on
experience of the person making the observation. There are no computer models
available to predict avalanches and therefore predictions are only accomplished
by repetitive observations and knowledge of snow properties.
Due to difficulty in reliable predictions method areas of avalanche hazards must
rely on controlling or altering the effects of an avalanche.
The back country explorer must be highly skilled in determining safe routes and
rescue procedures over and above relying on predictions of avalanches for
personal safety.
Avalanches kill people many ways but the most common cause of death is

Avalanches kill back country recreationalists every year, including skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, and snowmachiners. All back country users should have knowledge of the basic physics of avalanches to help them evaluate local and regional potential for slides. The foundation of this knowledge comes from understanding how the surrounding environmental conditions in previous weeks, previous days, and the day in question all contribute to snow stability or instability, and how specific factors affect snow on a micro-scale, which determines how snow slopes will behave on a macro-scale. There are two major types of avalanches (excluding debris avalanches from broken cornices and ice formations). These are point releases, or loose snow slides, and slab avalanches. While point releases can be dangerous and should be avoided, slab avalanches are much more catastrophic and account for most of the backcountry avalanche disasters involving humans. Basic physics of point releases are discussed here, followed by a discussion on the basic physics of slab avalanches, and how external factors contribute to the stability or instability of a snow covered slope.

Raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour has been extensively debated over the last year or so. Minimum wage is the undermost wage allowed by law to be given to an employee for their services. Introduced in 1939, its purpose was to stabilize the economy, which was healing from the Great Depression. Most importantly, it was designed to protect the health and welling-being of employees. Currently, the Federal Government 's minimum is $7.25 per hour ($14,500 per year). The ones in favor of the increase are saying that it used to be a living wage; however, now it is not and it now needs to be line with changes to the cost of living. In addition, an increase in minimum wage can increase the productivity and decrease income inequality and poverty. On the other spectrum, the ones who are against the increase are saying that the increased labor cost will drive up unemployment, affect small businesses negatively, and cause other workers from different
The most prominent demonstration of racism in America had to be the slave codes that were in place in all states where slavery was practiced. In “From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans,” John Hope Franklin went into detail on slave codes on pages 137-138, “…these laws varied from state to state, but most of them expressed the same viewpoint: that slaves are not people but property and that laws should…protect whites.” One law stated that those enslaved could not bear arms or strike a white person, even in self-defense, but when a white person killed a slave it wasn’t even considered murder. Africans had no standing in court, they couldn’t testify or be a party to a lawsuit and their marriages were not legally binding. Raping an African American woman by her master wasn’t considered a crime either. The slave codes were designed to oppress, persecute, and humiliate blacks by the hands of the whites. With the slave codes and the eventual Jim Crow laws and any oppressive laws and segregation practiced in America, the idea of blacks being inferior was stamped into the minds of any person living in the country. African Americans were treated as subpar, they weren’t considered human beings and to this day the same belief is held unto, although not nearly as outright or not as blatant as in the past centuries. Slavery in itself is a large example of how racism is and may always be embedded into American society; blacks had to fight to even be considered citizens, be able to vote, and be given basic human rights. Though many would deny the existence of racism, the sad truth is that racism may be an ever-present concept in American society.
Every year, more and more diseases and sicknesses need cures. The need for new medicine and treatments procedures causes animal research to increase. People that are involved in the fight for animal rights say that the animals should be protected just like humans. However, animal testing can find cures for deadly sick humans, which is more important than the very rare unfair abuse to animals. Animal testing should be allowed because although it can be bothersome to some animals, the outcomes are exaggerated, it creates procedures, and it helps find a cure to human health problems.

The current U.S. federal minimum wage for untipped workers is currently $7.25 an hour, as it has been since 2009. At this rate, a full time employee would earn an annual salary of $15,080, meaning that a family of two people, for example a single working mother with one child, working a full time minimum wage job, would sit below the federal poverty line of $15,730 for two people (2014 Poverty Guidelines). This can create many challenges in and out of the classroom. The classroom should be a safe place for all students regardless of what native language they speak.
