Designing a New System for Gala Visions
Gala Visions is a widely growing video rental outlet for most of the
Asian community where both Hollywood and Bollywood movies are found, I
will be using ICT to design a new system for it.
Analysis
========
Background to the problem
-------------------------
Gala Visions is small video rental store on Whalley Range in
Blackburn. The store is home to the many different genres of movies
through Hollywood and Bollywood. It is run by Fakhir.
Identification of Prospective Users
-----------------------------------
Gala Visions is a widely growing video rental outlet for most of the
Asian community where both Hollywood and Bollywood movies are found.
Because of this, the outlet has grown out of the manual system that is
at use for the renting of Video's/Dvd's. Its main problem is it is
very slow and unreliable. Fakhir has been looking for alternative
systems to upgrade the current system and to increase effectiveness in
the business.
Identification of User Needs
----------------------------
I myself do go to Gala Visions to hire Video's/Dvd's of all genres.
Fakhir has granted me full co-operation from his side to carry out my
Computing Coursework which if effective enough he may invest in a
computer with the system that I am going to produce.
Q) How many videos/Dvd's do you have in stock?
A) 3000+.
Q) Do you rent out both Hollywood and Bollywood Movies?
A) Yes we do but we only rent particular Hollywood box office smash
hits.
Q) Do you rent out all genres of movies?
A) Yes.
Q) How does the current rental system work?
A) It's a manual, paper pen based system.
Q) What happens when a person wants to hire a video/Dvd out?
A) Once the customer is happy with its choice we take their name and
address. We scan through the record book to check if that person is
registered. Then we take that persons id number, which is given to all
customers, and label a hire form. The customer details i.e. Name,
Address is also labelled. That's it.
Q) What time limit is the Video/Dvd rented out for?
A) 1 Day.
Q) What happens when a Video/Dvd is returned?
A) We cross off the rental on the hire form.
Q) How do you know that all the Video's/Dvd's have been returned?
A) Normally we check through the hire form but sometimes we don't, as
it is very time consuming.
Q) What happens when Videos/Dvd's are overdue?
A) We normally charge extra.
Q) What happens if the Video/Dvd is not returned?
A) We send a reminder through the post and then issue recovery
procedures.
Q) How many copies of each Video/Dvd do you normally keep?
First to determine if terrorism is in fact right or wrong we must understand what it is. Although there is not a universal definition to describe terrorism I relate closely to Walzers definition which is: “a random murder of innocent people, intended to frighten a population into demanding that their governments negotiate for their safety.” In Walzer’s article “Terrorism” (Cahn, 239) he lists the purpose and methods of terrorism as to “destroy the moral of a nation or a class, to undercut its solidarity; its method is the random murder of innocent people.” Innocent people or noncombatants, as people call them, are described as normal working civilians who do not play a role in the government or have any control of what is happening politically. These innocent people are the ones who are targeted with no regards to political affiliation, the only thing that makes them the target is simply belonging to a certain group. To offer an example in 911 innocent people were killed and were chosen only because they worked in the World Trade Center, they were not chosen for anything they had done politically. Wal...
Sophocles' tragic tale of Oedipus presents the reader with a very bleak view of mankind and the world in general. According to the story, every person is predestined to enact a role scripted by fate, a "mysterious power" that rules even the greatest of Greek gods (Hamilton, 27). In this tale, the source of this fate is not as clear as its function.
.... War novels serve as a vestige of the past; we can either learn from it and move on or make the same mistakes again. The main aspect learned from a novel like Matterhorn is how struggle during war can change a soldier for the better. We realize that through the struggle comes perseverance and determination. Karl Marlantes’s novel is a worthy addition to this body of literature. It is one of the best war novels I have ever read and I recommend it to anyone who is eager to learn about the Marine experience in Vietnam. Matterhorn is a visceral and spellbinding novel about what it is like to be a young man at war. It is an unforgettable novel that transforms the tragedy of Vietnam into an influential and universal story of courage, camaraderie, and tenacity: a story not only of the war in Vietnam but of all war, and a confirmation to the tremendous power of literature.
Fate plays an important role in the development of plot in The Iliad. Many of the character’s actions and thoughts are based around fate. For these
The view that life is once-and-for-all and inwardly destined corresponds to the view that death is equally final and obedient to the same law – an unalterable, conclusive end. The heroic identity realizes itself according to the inherent values, which govern the hero in question, and it ended in his own particular death. The heroes was not tricked or seduced by an unfamiliar fate. The power that lures him into his death is originally in him – in Patroklos, in Achilles, in Hector, in all who throught their heroic courage fall into it. What we do discover in the Iliad about heroic identity is that it composed of fatal opposites, clandestine violation of boundaries and laws. All the ordeals of the human condition culminate in the ultimate ordeal of a warrior hero’s violent death in battle, detailed in all its ghastly varieties by the poetry of the Iliad. This deep preoccupation with the primal experience of violent death in war has several possible explanations. Some argue that the answer has to be sought in the simple fact that ancient Greek society accepted war as a necessary and even important part of life. Others seek a deeper answer by pointing to the poet’s awe-struck sense of uncontrollable forces at work in the universe, even of a personified concept of Death itself, which then becomes, through the poet’s own artistic powers, some
Some theorists have argued that non-white parents who do not themselves speak English as a native language are more cynical about, or indifferent to, the value of education than are white or Asian parents (Gilborn, 2008). Some non-white parents have told researchers that education is unlikely to raise the status of their child; others, especially under-educated parents, have expressed the concern that education will somehow turn their children against them (Gilborn, 2008). Finally, scholars have noted that cultures in which English is deeply embedded
Overall, this internship was a great experience for me to grow and learn from actual physical therapists. Even though some days may have been repetitive and boring, I attempted to make the most out of my time at ATI because I was given an opportunity to see how my potential future could look like some day. Further, I was able to work with willing and experience physical therapists that answered every question I had.
The New Horizons Band captures the essence of numerous generations ranging from young adulthood to senior citizens, who delight in the creation of music. In 1991, Dr. Ernst, a professor at the Eastman School of Music, began the first New Horizons Band (Cole). This musical community consist of senior citizens who currently play instruments or desire to learn the art of a new instrument. Various divisions of this musical community exist throughout the United States, and participation extends over ten-thousand members (“Concept and Philosophy”).
One of the most compelling topics The Iliad raises is that of the intricate affiliations between fate, man and the gods. Many events related by Homer in his epic poem exhibit how these three connections interweave and eventually determine the very lives of the men and women involved in the war. Homer leaves these complex relationships slightly unclear throughout the epic, never spelling out the exact bonds connecting men's fate to the gods and what can be considered the power of fate. The motivation for the ambiguousness present in The Iliad is not easily understood, but it is a question that enriches and helps weave an even greater significance of the results into Homer's masterpiece. I feel that the interaction between man, god, and fate can be shown to be one great fluidity that ultimately leaves life mysterious, giving much more depth and complexity to the bonds between the three.
Finally, he asked me. I've been waiting all my life for Zinc to ask me out on a date. After all, I've only had a crush on him since the year 2149. Just think, the most astronomical guy in school asked me to the Neptunian Starlight prom of the year 2153. It's going to be the best night of my life!
Cosmos is a program which I consider a great opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and experience new learning environments. In a latino community, many of the people like to be with the people who look like them. It is the same thought I get when I choose the people who I want to be around, but I've decided that there needs to be a change in this way of thinking because learning from people of other race can affect one's perspective of the world. I'm a superior candidate for the cosmos program because I have demonstrated quick comprehension on various complex topics. For this same reason, I'm currently ranked number 1 for the class of 2018. I consider myself to have a growth-midset which implies that I have a personality that is really
Haven’t We Met Before: an Archetypal Analysis of Guardians of the Galaxy Have you ever thought to yourself, now where have I seen that before? Odds are you were watching a movie or reading a book, when something that happened in the story or a character said or did that sounded familiar. This is probably due to archetypes. Archetypes are original models that others are based upon, almost like a mold or a cookie cutter that makes similar copies. One movie that has many great examples archetypal characters, themes, and journeys is Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn.
In Homer’s The Iliad, talk of fate is frequent and influential. While only some characters know what is fated for them, all acknowledge that their destiny has already been laid out for them. Despite the psychological and emotional effects the accepted idea of fate had on the characters, they continue to engage in the bloody ten-year battle. Homer evokes this motivation in the characters to keep supporting the war despite little incentive, through the significance of glory and its relation to fate as an ultimate end rather than a governing force. This leads to the Iliad’s own message on fate being based on a warrior’s form of death and legacy rather than a fixed way of life. The Iliad further poses the question of whether the actions of the mortals seen throughout the text was free-will or pre-determined. While fate is treated by the gods as an unchangeable power, it is referred to ambiguously and gives the reader an open view on fate, leaving the reader to decide whether the often referred to, “will of Zeus,” is the absolute truth for the humans. These gods and goddesses seen in The Iliad are said to act upon in fate when evidence shows their intervention causing actual altering of the characters own free will. Thus, the gods become the direct cause for the demise of many warriors with a serious significance being placed on an honorable and glorified death. Leaving fate as something rather engineered by the gods themselves.
In the Iliad, it is important to recognize the unique personality traits and morals that the numerous characters encompass. While there is a wide variety in strengths, weaknesses, and values, the characters can clearly be divided into two starkly different groups. One being the mortals and the other being the immortals. This divide is caused by the mortals’ fear of death and loss of family, as opposed to the immortals’ disregard for those concerns due to their deathlessness.
A common struggle man faces is the question of who or what has power and control over his life. Does he have total control of his future, or is there a higher being at work that takes human lives into their own hands? Sophocles, in his work Oedipus Rex, establishes a view that gives fate, which is created by the gods, a seemingly inescapable characteristic over man. The role of fate is clearly defined, through the fulfillment of divine prophecy, and Oedipus’ inability to recognize prophecy as a realistic source of knowledge, as a fate that strikes a delicate balance with the free will of man.
