Perfusion
The Definition of a Perfusionist
The definition of a perfusionist by the Merriam Webster Medical Dictionary is that of a certified medical technician, responsible for and maintenance of equipment (as a heart-lung machine). (Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary ’95 edition) The perfusionist is the heart and the lungs of the patient while they are having open heart or by-pass surgery. A perfusionist has a daily routine similarly to those found in other professions. Also they are required to receive a college degree to be qualified to perform their job. For the hard work put into school and into their profession, the salaries are rewarded handsomely.
The perfusionist may obtain his or her certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. To attain this certification, the perfusionist must have a satisfactory performance on two examinations. The first examination is that of Perfusion Basic Science Examination, after successful completion of this examination a second examination must be taken called, Clinical Applications in Perfusion Examination. Once a passing score is obtained on the final exam, a perfusionist obtains his or her CCP or Certified Clinical Perfusionist status. To be eligible to take the Perfusion Basic Science Examination the applicant must have graduated from or is enrolled in accredited School of Cardiovascular Perfusion and must graduate at least four weeks prior to the date of the examination. A clinical education record documenting seventy-five (75) clinical cases must also be completed before the applicant will be considered for the examination process. To be eligible to sit for the Clinical Applications in Perfusion Examination the perfusionist must have first passed the Perfusion Basic Science Examination portion. In addition to this requirement, additional fifty independent clinical perfusions must be performed. (American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion)
Some of the daily preparations that are performed by a perfusionist would consist of reading through a patient’s records to check out the patients history, family history, laboratory tests, cardiology reports and so on. Following this the heart and lung machine needs to be inspected and tested to make sure that it is in proper working order and that the disposables that are used are properly loaded and functional. Next the perfusionist needs to discuss with the surgeon what the needs of the patient may be and also what the needs of the surgeon may be. The perfusionist does this in order to use the correct disposables and correct pump to meet both the demands of the patient and that of the surgeon.
Opposed to that of common thought, superman is not the only type of character that fits the heroic persona. Although “superheroes” typically come to mind when one thinks of a hero, there are many other ordinary people capable of extraordinary things. A hero is a person who takes the initiative to set out on a journey of internal growth. During this symbolic journey, one truly finds himself and betters the lives of other mentally and physically. In Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, Odysseus takes the path of heroism, resulting in the reborn spirit of a selfless, modest hero. During the process, Odysseus is faced with many challenges that he must overcome in order to earn the noble title. Odysseus proves himself to be a well-deserving hero because he is intelligent with his decisions, he displays cleverness, and he rids himself of hubris.

Oprah Winfrey achieved great success in her various endeavors, growing from a news reporter in Nashville to the world-famous talk show host she is today. During the 1980s, talk shows were a crucial part of daytime television. Shows were organized based upon their content and varied greatly in subject. The popularity of talk shows led many people to enter this field, leading to a constant struggle for airtime. Oprah’s rise to fame began when she moved from her hometown in Nashville, to college in Baltimore and ultimately to Chicago, where she lives today. She appeared on an early morning television program called A.M. Chicago, which was later retitled The Oprah Winfrey Show which aired its first episode on September 8, 1986. Talk shows like Oprah’s were wildly popular, especially to women, because they focused on entertaining their viewers rather than discussing political problems. The thirty-minute to hour-long programs allowed for people to escape their problems, even if only for a short period of time (Rose). Biographer, Ilene Cooper took on the challenge of writing a biography about the complex and extraordinary life of Oprah Winfrey. In an article on the Kirkus Review website, published in 2010, a critic enjoys how the author of the biography, Up close: Oprah Winfrey, “makes excellent use of many quotes from interviews, Oprah’s own writing and, of course, her television show” (“Oprah Winfrey”). This reviewer appreciates how the biographer uses all of her resources to understand more information about Oprah. Some of Oprah’s greatest contributions to society are her generous donations to several organizations, and the way she encourages individuals to take actions that can not on...
According the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), there are several standards available for this procedure. These standards are vital to help intervene when blood transfusion is needed. It provides clinical recommendations to educate and aware nurses the recent advances and technological innovations in planning and management of transfusion medicine. The standards are updated so nurses can be in compliance with best practices of how to manage blood transfusion to assure the proper approach to patient care. The standards are updated as new clinical trials are performed and show different techniques. There are other associations which enforce the same standards but have some clinical variations. Among the sterile field of the cardiac catheter laboratory, a student is observing over a cardiologist’s head while a surgical technician narrates their role in the standard ablation. This is just one of the many pivotal experiences that a student in Liberty High School’s Allied Health CTE program can expect. The student is on a path made available by the Western Maricopa Education Center and, if followed properly, that student can expect to graduate high school as a skilled worker in the medical field. Allied Health is just a small portion of a much bigger picture that provides ever growing opportunities to high school students prior to graduation.

Oprah Winfrey is a name that needs no introduction to most people in the world. Starting her journey with nothing, today , she has everything anybody could wish for and more. She has the money, the friends, the fame, the respect and as she repeatedly has pointed out as a comical comment, the shoes.
Oprah Winfrey, who is born in January 29, 1954, is an American Tv broadcaster, with African origins. She lived with her mother and endured physical and mental abuse; she fled at 13, just to be dismissed from an adolescent imprisonment and sent to live with her cruel dad in Nashville (Kirkwood, 2013). This heroin lived her life and still experienced it with wide achievements and significant impacts on the global level. She brought great changes to various countries in the world. Oprah influenced many people who watched her shows by the great deeds she did and by listening to them and helping them. Accordingly, I have chosen her because she inspired me to follow her ideas and beliefs to reach the high standards she acquires today as a humanitarian individual.
In relation to a perioperative client, the goals include the use of two correct patient identifiers, such as the client name and date of birth, labeling of medication and containers, maintaining and communicating information accurately on client medications, and lastly using evidence-based practices to prevent surgical infections. Performing the client verification by each member of the team will ensure that the correct client and procedure match. In the surgical setting, the use of labeled medications and containers is necessary. This follows along the principles of safe medication administration but prevents a medication error. In preventing the error and being safe, we must know what each item in the room is to ensure that the client receives proper medication and or...
Though Bruce was an accomplished actor, he had many other talents that made his even more memorable. He was a skilled dancer, who had won a cha-cha competition in Hong Kong and studied ballet. Upon first moving to America, he taught dance and martial arts to help bring a steady cash flow. Dance did not simply provide a paycheck for Bruce but it also helped to make his fighting style more original. With that, he was able to create his own fighting style known as Jeet Kune Do, this was a modified version of Wing Chun that included other techniques like fencing and Kung Fu. Bruce Lee said, Jeet Kune Do was mainly focused on ways to avoid a hit. This was revolutionary in the fighting world and on screen. Bruce Lee paved a way for martial artists and Asian actors, he was a hit in Hollywood. It did not stop there though, he also owned 3 different martial arts schools, two in California and one in in Seattle, Washington. Bruce was a dancer, instructor, skilled fighter and actor but most importantly was a devoted husband to Linda Emery and a father to a young boy named Brandon and a girl named Shannon. His daughter, Shannon now speaks publicly about her father. She says he was a hero to many people, especially her. She is an actress, martial artist and was lucky enough to learn her father’s style Jeet Kune Do under one of Bruce’s students. Unfortunately, Brandon Lee is not here with us anymore. He thought so highly of his father; he followed in Bruce’s footsteps spending eight years in Hong Kong, becoming an actor, specializing in martial arts and had died young and tragically. Brandon had a hard time coping with the loss of his father and being the son of Bruce Lee and living up to the expectations. Brandon had a hard time in school continuously dropping in and out of school. Brandon wanted to honor his father
