Brandon thought that he could take a swig of beer safely. But when he lifted the bottle of Miller to his still-grinning lips, he caught a glimpse of Chester, whose fat face was also grinning like a kid’s Halloween jack o’ lantern, and that happened just when the swallow of beer was going down Brandon’s throat. The result was a loud choke, gurgle and spray of beer across a table already littered with bottles, caps, cigarette butts, and spoiling pretzels.
"Ah, censored!" Chester yelled, jumping quickly out of his chair to avoid the sticky shower.
"C’mon, Bran. You gotta wear a god damn bib or something’?"
On the other side of the table, Henry laughed uproariously, turning a particularly beetlike shade of red. Brandon wiped beer and spittle from his face and let more laughter flow unabridged. "The—look—on his face!"
His ribs began to ache. That caused Chester to break up again, and Henry to plead soundlessly for air, begging them to stop.
"The look," Brandon said when he could catch a breath, "of the mighty warrior – the mighty gremlin hunter, off to bag his fine catch!"
Chester held his stomach as if afraid his intestines would leap away from the hysterical body that contained them. "Poking him full of those stories about these woods. That was the best part."
Henry beamed proudly. It was he who had told them all—including Georgie—about the wooded area called Peach Cove on Lake Fausse Point. The headless woman, the squirrel that screams like a man, the six-foot hog...all the local nonsense that he had heard when he purchased the camp along that deserted canal deep in the swamps of south Louisiana. The fact that the French, from whom Henry and the rest were descended, had learned about the local area from the Indians from whom Georgie was descended only made things all the funnier. They were all city folks, Georgie included. He had been put up for adoption when he was a child and was raised by non-Native parents. He didn’t even know his tribe.
"I shoulda told him the one about the black panther with a baby’s head," Henry said.
My breath was heavy as I was sprinting from them. I could hear them on my tail. But the only this that was racing through my mind was “I have the book.”
There are several different genres of hunting and many of them require the same set of skills. Hunting is an exciting hobby, but it’s also a hobby that many people do not know much about. Coyote hunting is one of the fastest growing genres of hunting that requires a variety of skills.
George and Lennie’s struggle for their tiny piece of the American Dream is best summed up by Crooks when he said that he’s “seen hundreds of men come by on the road an’ on the ranches, with their bindles on their back an’ that same damn thing in their hands. Hundreds of them. They come, an’ they quit an’ go on; an’ every damn one of ‘em’s got a little piece of land in his head.
In the state of Pennsylvania there are only seven days to legally rifle hunt antlered and antler-less white-tailed deer. Out of the insignificant seven days of the hunting season, it is only legal to hunt on six of them. There should not be a law that makes it illegal to hunt on Sundays. It should not be a law because it is attempting to force religion on people and because they are not in church they are not allowed to hunt. There were also other laws like this in PA and most of them were repealed, but why wasn’t this one? I know that some people are religious and believe that Sunday is a day for God and if they don’t think killing an animal on Sunday is a good thing to do they don’t have to. There is also a very limited time that you can legally hunt in Pennsylvania, December 7-14, so if there is a one-week restriction we should be allowed to hunt on every one of those days. There are few days to hunt and hunting being illegal on Sundays is not getting us closer to the amount of time the public wants in their hunting season.
3”Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me. 4And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat… “(Genesis 27:3-4) People claim that hunting is an evil practice and it’s unnecessarily cruel to “defenseless”, “harmless” animals. What they don’t realize is that their opinions are not based off the Word of God but instead what they (as in humans) think is right. God gave us these delicious-tasting animals to enjoy as food respectfully, as opposed to killing them only for the thrill. I am going to be showing you the roots of hunting and why it is necessary today. And by the way, a wise man named Paul Rodriguez stated “Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides should know they’re in the game (2012)”
Hunting can be an extremely fun activity. It can also be very relaxing. Hunting is a good use of time. The change that settled agricultural existence with peoples need to catch food to survive along with most peoples love of hunting, will hopefully continue into further generations. Hunting offers excitement, tested strength, and also courage ("Longbows") Aboriginal people hunted and trapped animals for uses like shelter, food, clothing or tools. They also traded, trading of pelts dates back to the mid 1600’s in western Canada. In the late sixteenth century Aboriginal trappers accepted European iron traps. By the mid-1770s fur trade competition was building ("History of Hunting and Trapping"). In the fourteenth century firearms appeared in Europe, the inaccuracy of the early guns along with the noise and smoke they produced would have made them less useful than bows or crossbows as hunting weapons. Guns were restricted to use for only bird hunting until the end of the seventeenth century. Around the 1700’s flint lock guns were designed to shoot birds on the wing. ("Firearms”).
Duck hunting is an absolute passion for me and nothing could possibly interrupt this annual event. For me, sitting out in a duck blind at 5:30 in the morning with the brisk cold air biting at my skin is something I look forward to each and every year. Even having to break through a layer of thin ice to make it out to my blind never gets old. The frigid cold on my hands can get unbearable at times, but the possibility of frostbite is never at the forefront of my thoughts. After all, when the ducks start to fly, nothing can force me off the lake.
Hunting has been a necessity for life since the start of time. Hunting was needed to feed family’s day in and day out. But in the twenty first century, Americans have evolved so hunting is not really as big of an obligation as it was in previous generations. Americans have learned to contain specific animals, such as cows, pigs and chickens, farmers then raise them and harvest them for their meat. But in some rural areas of the United States, it is a completely different aspect. Individuals who live in areas such as Alaska, Montana, and The Dakotas don’t have a local grocery store to buy their T-bone steak or ground beef. These individuals have to hunt for their meat in order to survive. Each hunter may have their own individual techniques; they may hunt for specific big or small game animals and use basic or more complex techniques. All of their different techniques come back to the basic techniques used for hunting. But all of the separate hunters have the same common goal, and that is to survive.
This report gives the brief overview of the concept of corporate governance, its evolution and its significance in the corporate sector. The report highlights various key issues and concerns that are faced by the organizations while effectively implementing and promoting Corporate Governance.
Corporate governance is the policies, rules and regulations, by which a corporation shapes the way corporate officers, managers, and stakeholders perform their duties to create wealth for the entity. According to Lipman (2006), good corporate governance helps to prevent corporate scandals, fraud, and potential civil and criminal liability of the organization (p. 3). Most companies, whether formal or informal, have some type of corporate governance for the management to follow. Large companies will have a formal set of rules and regulations, while small companies frequently have spoken rules often due to lack time to form any type of formal policies. There is often no corporate governance with family owned companies.
An African Proverb once said, “Until lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter.” The same goes for several other wild species around the world being hunted on enclosed ranches. Unless more people are informed about hunting on enclosed ranches it may easily be misinterpreted. Some may think the concept of a wild animal ranch is just a piece of private land with large animals that graze on it, when in fact that is wrong. This practice of hunting, otherwise known as a “canned hunt”, is one in which the animal is pin raised and then hunted on an enclosed ranch. “[T] he odds have been artificially manipulated against the animal so heavily that the notion of fair chase is subverted.” (“Canned and Internet”). If people understood the concept of a “canned hunt” there would be more laws preventing it.

Hunting is a prime pastime for millions of Americans. Being able to own a gun and to hunt animals on land that you own is an immeasurable blessing and privilege. With this privilege comes great responsibility which includes following the laws that have been put in place concerning hunting, such as not hunting without a permit, using the correct techniques when hunting specific animals, and knowing what weapons are legal to hunt the specific animal with. There are many different animals to hunt, and the techniques to hunt them are easily managed.
The office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE, 2015), Ireland defines Corporate Governance as “the system, principles and process by which organisations are directed and controlled. The principles underlying corporate governance are based on conducting the business with integrity and fairness, being transparent with regard to all transactions, making all the necessary disclosures and decisions and complying with all the laws of the land”. It is the system for protecting and advancing the shareholder’s interest by setting strategic direction for the firm and achieving them by electing and monitoring the capable management (Solomon, 2010). It is the process of protecting the stakes of various parties that have their interest attached with a company (Fernando, 2009). Corporate governance is the procedure through which the management of the company is achieving the goals of various stake holders (Becht, Macro, Patrick and Alisa,
...eve efficient resource allocation. Failure to achieve appropriate and efficient corporate governance could result in sub-optimal allocation of resources, abuses and theft by management, expropriation of outside shareholders and creditors, financial distress and even bankruptcy. While evaluating the role of corporate governance, it is imperative to also consider the levels of development of market institutions and other legal infrastructure including laws and enforcement that provide good standard for investor protection as well as ownership structures.
