Custom Written Essays - The Perspective of Aristotle on Hamlet
One of the foremost Elizabethan tragedies is Hamlet by William Shakespeare and one of the earliest critics of tragedy is Aristotle. One way to measure Shakespeare's work is to appraise it using the methods of classical critics and thereby to see how if it would have retained its meaning. Hamlet is one of the most recognizable and most often quoted tragedies in the all of English literature. Aristotle, is concerned with the proper presentation of tragic plays and poetry. Aristotle defines tragedy as:
"...a representation of an action that is worth serious attention,
complete in itself, and of some amplitude; in language enriched by a
variety of artistic devices appropriate to the several parts of the
play; presented in the form of action, not narration; by means of pity
and fear bringing about the purgation of such emotion. (Aristotle 38 - 9)
Shakespeare uses character, plot and setting to create a mood of disgust and a theme of
proper revenge, as opposed to fear and pity, hence Aristotle would have disapproved of
Hamlet. It is the above mentioned elements; character, plot and setting, used in a non-
Aristotelian way, that makes Hamlet work as a one of the English language's most renown
tragedies.
By proper revenge we refer to the Elizabethan view that revenge must be sought in certain cases, for the world to continue properly. This is the main plot of Hamlet. In Poetics, Aristotle defines for us, the element of plot and shows us how he believes it must be put together. He also believes in various unities which he states are necessary for a proper tragedy. Aristotle believes in what he calls "Unity of plot" (Aristotle 42 - 3). This "Unity" leaves no room for subplots, which are crucial to the theme of Hamlet. Without the subplot of Laertes' revenge and the subplot of Fortinbras' revenge, we are left with a lugubrious play where the ending, although necessary, is pointless. The three sub-plots together as a unit, allow us to understand what Shakespeare thought of revenge.
Another of the ways Aristotle defines plot in tragedy as "The noble actions and the doings of noble persons"(Aristotle 35). By this definition, Hamlet should be a noble person, who does only noble things.
Children who suffer from ASD usually have the appearance of normal development and then become withdrawn and regress from social interaction (Melinda Smith, 2013). The impaired social interaction of the disorder affects communication both verbally and non- verbally (Melinda Smith, 2013). Their communication with others and the world around them is also affected, as well as their thinking and behavior (Melinda Smith, 2013).
Although Ferguson and Rosales-Ruiz (2001) conducted a study with horses, their findings can be replicated and generalized to humans as well. Schmidt, Luiselli, Rue, and Whalley (2013) developed a similar study involving an adolescent boy with Autism. This participant was a student who consistently avoided the music room, gymnasium, and gross-mot...

The presence of sorrow is ________ in Tim Winton’s novel, Cloudstreet. The impact of this anguish proves to be neither manageable or momentary, with various factors ensuring that the characters take a while to overcome or accept their grief. These factors include the complex nature of disputes and the lack of right and wrong. The unwillingness to tolerate or empathise with others, maximising the hatred that inspires misery. The consequence of grief can dislodge someone’s identity and it takes time for them to readjust and find their sense of meaning
This fact was important because later it was explained that everyone in Japan had money and that it was more equally distributed than in the east.
...c Observation Schedule, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale, and McArthur Communication Development Inventory to measure the communication and aversive behavior frequency of the participants. After the procedures were complete, results demonstrated that advances were made in both of the dependent measures that utilized ABA with NET and DTT combined (Matson & Konst, 2013, p. 476). Comparable results were also found by Zachor and Ben-Itzchak (2010) who conducted a similar study with more dependent measures including communication, language, comprehension, daily living skills, motor skills, visual perception, and social behaviors (as cited in Matson & Konst, 2013). Thus, this research demonstrates that comprehensive ABA programs can be an ideal method of treatment not only for school-aged children and adults with ASD, but for EI individuals as well (Matson & Konst, 2013).
There is a wide range of socially significant behaviors, from the most simple to the more complex, that an ABA therapy may help cultivate. Reading, communication, intellectual and adaptive living skills make up these socially significant behaviors. By learning and mastering these, children with ASD will be more independent and capable of dealing with the challenges presented by daily life.
...ay that bring Hamlet's character to life while adding mystique, emotion, action and intensity to the story.
Discrete trial teaching is a teaching method classified by the fast pace delivery and shortened period of instructions (5-20 seconds) and incorporation of prompts, which is also referred to as errorless learning. DTT is under the umbrella of ABA and it is a method used to teach new skills and behaviors to children on the autism spectrum. As well DTT uses a unique style of teaching, errorless learning. Which unlike the normal teaching of trial and error. This style of teaching has been shown to be very effective with children with autism. Furthermore, Applied Behavior analysis seeks to address the antecedent and consequences of behavior ( Hunter class). There is over 60 years of research to support the effectiveness of ABA to address the behavior or children with development disabilities. Furthermore we discussed in lecture that punishment and reinforcement are the driving principle behind changing behavior. DTT uses carefully timed reinforcement to support newly learned behaviors and skills. This research indicates that the use of ABA leads to very effective results in children. (Hunter, 2015)
Beginning with the Greeks, tragedy has been an essential form of entertainment. Although it has changed slightly over time due to different religious and social values, it is still written and performed to this day. Perhaps the most well known tragedy of all time is Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hamlet is perhaps the epitome of all tragedy. Not only does the tragic hero Hamlet meet his demise, but all the main characters in the play at some point due to some flaw in their character, or some fatal decision, also meet the same fate. It is because of their character flaw and/or their fatal decision at some time during the play that their death can be justified.
Let us first consider truth, lies and power. Have you noticed mining towns and our national wealth vanishing from the map of Australia? The cost of our Sunday roast dinners increasing to $100? These lies enabled the Liberal National Party to create fear and gain control of the government at the last election in 2013. Politicians today openly manipulate, exaggerate, bend, contort and distort the truth, in an effort to win votes. The Liberal party were very critical of The Labour party’s policies and claimed that they were our saviours from the country’s economy downfall and bankruptcy. Likewise, in the crucible Judge Danforth claimed “Town waits at the scaffold” to create fear and pretend he is the s...
Bradbury predicted this accurately in Fahrenheit 451 and teaches a lesson to this day. Current society should better appreciate culture and how things used to be before they were automatic. Fahrenheit 451 opens eyes and shows just how much society has developed to easier and more technological ways.
8. If I were the CEO or the founder of a company I would want to be a fair, straightforward and motivated leader. Holding open to suggestions meetings or doing employee of the month. My mission Statement would be “help me help you”.
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, during the Renaissance became a literary hero of the new generation. His face claims Shakespeare's idea of ideal man of Renaissance, which is mightily minded and with strong will power. Hamlet is able to fight alone with evil. Hero seeks to change the world and feels the strength to do it. Heroes of this magnitude before Shakespeare did not exist in the literature. Therefore, the story of Hamlet has become a "breakthrough" in the ideological content of European literature.
While a number of organizations have not adopted a sustainable operations management strategy, large retail firms like Morrison, Wal-Mart, Marks and Spencer, and Sainsbury’s have adopted this concept into their management strategies in order to reflect customer concerns and thus sustain the competitive advantage. Many larger firms are willing to promote sustainable operations in their markets because this strategy arguably attracts and retains customers.
