My Educational Goals and Philosophy
I decided to choose teaching as my profession because I want to help the students who have distinct potential, but may be struggling in the classroom. By ignoring a student who is a slow learner, we may be losing the next genius of our generation.
I have worked with children in several different aspects. In high school, I worked with the Strong Mountaineer Program. This program allowed me to go into an elementary class and work with the students who needed extra help. I tutored the students in their weakest area. In this program, I encountered a student in the second grade who could not read. The teacher gave me material to work with her and after several weeks of tutoring she could read as well as the other students in her class. The look of pride on this little girl’s face when she read aloud was priceless, as was the look on my face because I made the difference. I also worked for a day care program in which tutored children after school with their studies. These programs have influenced my decision in becoming a teacher.
In addition, I am in the process of earning my undergraduate degree from Concord College. My area of emphasis is Elementary Education/ Multi- Subject/ K-6. The reason I chose this major is because of my love for children.
Since every child learns differently, I will use all the major philosophical perspectives. This is why my teaching style is eclectic. I believe children today do not have the proper respect for teachers and parents. This is why I agree with William Bagley when he says children should be taught the traditional values of our culture. He also says the teacher should be the center of the class. Teachers are the ones who have the college degree and are trained to instruct students. Not all my students will be able to attend college, so they need to be familiar with the real world so they can communicate with other people and things.
Working at a large healthcare organization, it is important that managers are aware of the different management styles. This will help in becoming effective leaders. The theory I have identified in my organizations Situational Theory. Situational leadership
The concept of Jihad was not widely known in the western world before the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. Since then, the word has been woven into what our media and government feed us along with notions of Terrorism, Suicide Bombings, Hamas, Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, and now, Jihad. Our society hears exhortations resounding from the Middle East calling the people to rise up in Jihad and beat back the imperialist Americans. Yet, if we try to peel back all of these complex layers of information we can we attempt to find out what Jihad really means. Webster’s Dictionary defines Jihad as “a holy war waged on behalf of Islam as a religious duty or a crusade for a principle or belief” (1). Often, media depicts Jihad in the same manner—as a vicious clash between two very different peoples, each of whom believes that righteousness, and in many cases God, is on their side. From this interpretation and our daily media intake, one may reasonably assume that Jihad refers to nothing more than violent acts, or “holy wars.”
Many terrorists believe that their religion is the only true religion, and they use it to justify violence (“Islamic Terrorism”). Most Muslim terrorists follow Jihad. Jihad is an Islamic perception that the way to integrate their religion is by massive force (“Of True Muslims and Terrorists”). Jihad is considered the “sixth pillar” of faith in Islam because it is the constant fight towards good. It is the idea of focusing on God and turning away from those that oppose God (David E. Long, 91). The terrorists believe that their religion is what everyone should follow, so they would naturally require personnel in power in Muslim states to either convert to their religion or resign from their terms. They will first threaten a leader that if they do not change, the terrorists will use violence. Sometimes, violent acts come about without any warning or previous threats (“Of True Muslims and Terrorists”). This model is well accepted in many companies. Leader’s behaviors monitored in this model are consideration and structuring. Situational Leadership is a popular leadership style introduced and popularized by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey that theorizes the use of different leadership styles according to the situation. The leadership model requires a person to analyze the needs according to a particular situation and adapt to the scenario by using the most appropriate leadership style. Versatility and adaptability are two primary requirements needed from a leader using the situational leadership method, as the leadership style will vary depending on the situation. Depending upon willingness and ability of the subordinates there are four different types of Situational leadership:

The Jihad is probably one of the most misunderstood and feared terms in modern day America. Ever since the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11th, 2001, the Muslim religious duty of Jihad has had only negative connotations. Of course, seeing two trademark buildings collapsed and mangled on the groundwith thousands dead all in the name of religion would have anyone jump to a negative conclusion. But what most people don’t understand is that the meaning of the term “Jihad” is one greatly left up to interpretation. Each sect of the Islamic religion has a different take on this religion duty and the expectation that go along with it. Therefore, the idea of Jihad that America has learned to fear might not be the true meaning, concept, and intention of the word at all.
According to the Skog et al (2012), situational leadership is the model where leader adapt himself according to the ability of the follower. Situational leadership is the most accurate and flexible approach foe the leaders who work in the diversity of population. It is the best model in terms of assessing the performance of the team in relation of acuity changes. The best thing is that situational leadership consider organisational context into account. Robert Paper argues that, in a way, suicide terrorism can be a logical choice for the individual carrying out the attack. When contemplating whether or not suicide terrorism can be a logical choice, you must be able to put yourself in the place of the “terrorist”. Whether or not someone is considered a terrorist can be a very subjective view, especially from the viewpoint of the person or group that is being terrorized. This requires the observer to exude empathy.We may look at Osama Bin Laden as a terrorist, but to him, he was doing the work of his “God”. The person considered to be a terrorist could be revered as a martyr in their community; someone who ultimately gave their life to perpetuate a particular faith or ideal. While, being a citizen of a country that has endured many tragedies, both on the homefront and abroad; makes these actions disgust me, there are two sides to view from. This subjectiveness is at the heart of figuring out whether or not this is a logical choice. Exploration of this topic shall lead to a greater understanding of the “how” and “why” terrorists commit these devastating activities, and allow those defending from such attack be able to do so. This would allow further safety in the area of homeland security.
• Not budgeting is one of the most overlooked financial mistakes. You need to know exactly how much money comes in and out at least on the weekly basis. To explain, you must find out exactly how much money you bring home, separate the money in categories to cover those expenses and finally stick with the plan.
I wanted to start making a difference in kids as soon as I had the chance. I started to take Early Childhood Education classes at my school. This course was rigorous and so important, due to the fact we ran a preschool of 20 four and five-year old’s. Their education was in our hands; we were that building block for their first insight on school. I feel in love with writing lesson plans and being hand in hand with other teachers and the students became a part of my life that I never wanted to go away. I interned at an elementary school just to get more involved and learn more about collaborating. I started taking a Teaching as a Profession class, so I could not only know today’s education but become familiar with the history of education, how to accommodate your classroom for students with special needs, and the issues in todays education. I completed this class and took the state mandated test to complete the pathway and get a cord at graduation. I came in on Sundays to work and study with my teacher for this test and it all paid off when I passed the test with the highest score out of the nine people who took the test. While this was all happening I was inducted into National Beta Club for my grades and averages in my classes, which mostly included advanced courses. I then completed the Early
Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Theory (SLT) asserts that a leader’s effectiveness is dependent upon the readiness, or ability and willingness, of the leader’s followers to complete a task. This leadership style is an amalgamation of task-oriented and relationship-oriented characteristics that are employed depending upon the situation and the followers involved. According to the SLT, as followers increase in readiness the leader’s style is to adapt accordingly (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2009).
I have had several wonderful opportunities to work with children. At my school I enjoyed helping teach a young children's music class by playing songs for them, telling them about the violin, and helping them develop a love of beautiful music. I would enjoy continuing this as an adult. Last year I helped a kindergarten teacher in an underprivileged school, stapling papers and supervising children. I most enjoyed helping small groups learn the alphabet, supervising two children at a time as they tried to match the capital and lowercase letters and identify each letter.
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and academically. It is my desire as a future educator to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are two elements that I believe are essential to establishing such an environment, (1) allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (2) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Since I was 12, I knew I wanted to work with children. I thought about being a pediatrician or social worker; but upon self-reflection, I knew I did not fit those molds. After years of teaching in schools and camps, I realized teaching was the field for me.
