Service Desk
I find myself working at the Service Desk about noon on a Sunday afternoon. The ³Church Rush² has begun. People with their three piece suits and Sunday dresses on all come to shop.
Then this gentleman and his daughter come in and the dreaded happens. They have a video game, that is opened, with a receipt. One of the toughest situations to deal with. The account, in extreme cases, goes like this:
³Hi,² I say.
³Hello, I¹d like to return this. Here is the receipt,² the guest replies. I see that it is ³Mario Party² for the Nintendo 64 and it is opened.
³Okay, I can exchange this for another copy of ŒMario Party¹,² I say.
³I don¹t want another copy. It was to difficult for my kid,² the guest says.
³Well, due to copyright law issued by the Federal government I cannot refund your money or issue an exchange except for an exact copy of this game,² I explain.
³I never have had a problem with returns before at this store,² the guest tells you.
³One moment,² I say as I go get the return policy pamphlet. I then point out the phrase which applies to the situation.
³Well this says I can return electronics with a receipt,² says the guest as they point to a different section of the return policy.
³In certain instances it is that easy, but in this case I can issue you another copy of ŒMario Party¹ due to copyright,² I say.
³Well, I shop here every week. I buy stuff for home, the office, and gifts. I¹ve never had a problem before. Are you telling me I just threw away $55?!?² retorts the guest in an angry manner.
³I¹m sorry, would you like to speak with the manager?² I ask. That phrase is one of my favorite questions in a situation such as this.
³Yes, I do!² exclaims the guest. I turn around and pick up the walkie-talkie and call for the Lead on Duty.
³LOD can you come to the service desk?² I speak in to the walkie.
³Be there in a minute,² the walkie says back with Brian¹s voice.
As I stand there the gentleman¹s little daughter says in the cutest little voice, ³If we buy something here and have the receipt we can return it.²
I just look at her then at her father a give a brief smile. The time it takes the LOD to arrive at the service desk seems like an eternity.
Upon accepting a position to work for the New York Transit Authority, Mary Myers was forthright in informing her supervisor(s) know that she was unable to work any sundown Fridays to sundown Saturdays. (Feazell, 2003) As it relates to keeping “the Sabbath”, sundown Friday to sundown Saturday adherence to set aside this time period for rest and worship. (Feazell, 2003) Consequently, after Ms. Myer begin working for Transit Authority, her scheduled hours were involuntary changed, and she was then required to work on the Sabbath. (Feazell, 2003)
Completed Studies involving ABA therapy have shown improvements in communication, social relationship’s, and school for children who suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder. Results also showed that ABA also increased participation in family and community activities. MY theory involves creating individual customized intervention plans that will addresses the specific need of the participant, while also teaching the parent. Logically parents are our first teachers, and with that being said if parents are trained the progress would be more significant than without their participation.
Today I am here to talk to you about 'An Inspector Calls.' I have been

For decades, stores have opened their doors in the wee hours of the morning on the fabulous Black Friday. In recent years, however, the “early-bird special” concept changed when many major chains from Target to Toys R Us opened on Thanksgiving Day itself, turning the best shopping day of the year into a two-day celebration. This is quite disturbing to some because man...

On the sunny day of December 16 in the year 2017, people fill the entrances of Costco, a general store and buy the various items they need and want. Moreover, bulk Clothing product and holiday gifts are jammed into the carts of customers, while a humongous television is being moved on a big cart with soaps and toothpaste on top. Irrevocably, the customers reach the cash counters, their eyes flicker to the food court, filled with the aroma of sandwiches, pizza, and churros, but the customers remember that they had already drunk a smoothie yesterday when they went shopping.
Early intervention is effective in treating autism spectrum disorder in many ways. One important way it has been proven effective by research is by increasing a child’s cognitive skills. When a child is first diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, they will likely be diagnosed as having a cognitive delay. Research shows that early invention services, such as applied behavior analysis, occupational, and speech therapy has helped increase IQ scores in children with autism spectrum disorder. In one study, children who received up to twenty hours a week of early intervention services had an average rise in IQ points of 17.6 (Solis, 2010). This increase in cognitive skills benefited children in the classroom setting. After receiving extensive early intervention treatment, children typically performed better on standardized testing. With an increase in cognitive skills and better achievement on standardized testing, children were able to be placed in less restrictive classroom settings (Smith, 199...
Every year doctors diagnose thousands of adults and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Due to the growing awareness of autism and recent developments in technology, scientists and doctors can now discover and observe the effects of autism on society, and people. Starting with its discovery, researchers have been able to diagnose people more effectively. Doctors are beginning to discover what causes this disorder, and are currently trying to find ways to prevent and treat it. Many places have opened their doors to people with this disorder, creating autistic friendly environments where people are patient and understanding. Schools have also become accommodating to autistic children and adults. Autism also puts great strain on family and home lives.
It was another long week, and I was looking forward to the usual summer rituals of mowing lawns and hammering a few nails into any place they seemed to fit. I usually closed the auto parts store at 5:30 and stayed doing paperwork for another hour or so, but not on Fridays. Fridays were the finish line of a usually marathon week of complaining customers and dissatisfied employees. At 5:31, the place would be empty, dark, and eager for an echo.
Within the few weeks that composed the busiest shopping time of the year, customers were able to diminish my joy for the holiday season. My first anti-holiday experience occurred when I was learning how to run the registers. At this time, I was also learning that parents tend to feel a great need to please their children by purchasing the trendiest toys and by spending hundreds of dollars on Christmas presents. One such “guest,” as we are encouraged to refer to customers, a thin woman with fluffed brown hair, came through my lane with a cart full of toys.
"Hey, I have a question, do you mind presenting a speech, do you mind presenting a speech? Some of our officers can’t make it to the induction.”
Holidays have always been known to affect our consumer culture for many years, but how it all began eludes many people and very few studies have been completed on it. Even though some say that the subject is too broad to precisely identify how holidays, especially Christmas, directly affect our market, I have found that people’s values, expectations and rituals related to holidays can cause an excessive amount of spending among our society. Most people are unaware that over the centuries holidays have become such a profitable time of year for industries that they now starting to promote gift ideas on an average of a month and a half ahead of actual holiday dates to meet consumer demands.
