On the 20th October 2007 Jerry Jackson was sent to Reddington prison
for first degree murder. His first 6 months inside were rough, but
time passed and he slowly adjusted to life inside. He appealed against
his sentence during the first six months, but sadly failed to get
bail.
The head officer of C section, Jerry’s section, Jane Cox has a very
formal relationship with her prisoners. She has been serving at the
prison for the past ten years and is the most experienced member of
staff. Her partner Erik Matthews is a trainee at the prison and the
plan is for him to take over Jane’s role when she retires. Erik dream
has always been to run a prison, he sees becoming head officer a
stepping stone to the top. He’s a career driven man and is a Harvard
graduate.
There is one more person who got sucked into this tragic story.
Jerry’s lawyer Jonathan Cumberland, the most successful lawyer who
ever lived. He never lost a case in 5 years. And so the story begins
on a normal day at a normal time in a normal place.
At 10:00am that morning Jonathan had a meeting with Jerry in his cell.
“Jerry, if you want to get bail your behaviours got to improve
drastically. As it is you’re not on the judges best side.” “I know , I
know but if you want to survive in this place you’re going to have to
ruffle some feathers if you know what I mean” “Yeah I know but you
could try and keep a low profile” “Okay I’ll see what I can do but I’m
not making any promises”. While outside the room Erik and Jane where
talking about the possibility of moving Jerry to another prison “He
has to go he’s too much trouble , there have been three suspicious
deaths in the past six months and they’ve all been somehow linked to
him. Come on Jane this isn‘t coincidence” “I know Erik but there’s no
solid evidence”.

“Say it ain’t so Joe.” (Pellowski 5). These famous words were uttered by a heart broken fan outside of the courtroom of the Black Sox player’s trial. To understand the deeper meaning behind these words lets go back to the 1919 World Series of baseball. A historic Chicago White Sox team is getting ready to face the Cincinnati Reds in what is expected to be a lob sided match leaning towards the White Sox. They had the best player in “Shoeless” Joe Jackson playing in the outfield and already had a World Championship under their belt from 1917. With all these things to consider in the World Series matchup the fans knew that the White Sox should easily pull out a victory and win the championship. However, little did they know that there was a bigger picture being painted by the players of the White Sox that would lead to an enormous drop in popularity of the sport from players and fans. The Black Sox Scandal shocked denizens of the baseball world, changing the lives of the players, as well as tarnishing the sport’s reputation.

Anthony Hanemaayer was exonerated on June 25th, 2008 for being wrongfully convicted of assaulting a teenage girl on September 29, 1987, consequently being humiliated and wrongfully jailed for 16 months. Leading him to ask “What Life” has he been left with.
In 1995 a Virginian prison inmate Robert Lee Brock was determine to prove his innocence. While he couldn't trade places with man he could at least seek restitution. Brock filed charges stating that his religious beliefs had been violated and felt entitled to $5 million dollars. The defendant? Robert Lee Brock. He was suing himself. Of course, since he was in prison, the state would have to pay.
World popstar turned accused child molester, Michael Jackson was accused of multiple counts regarding a young boy and his family, on November 19th 2003. A 13-year old boy named, Gavin Arvizo, who Jackson had a relationship with for over ten years had arisen as a controversial court case in which Jackson was indicted of four counts of intoxicating a minor to assault him, four counts of molesting a minor, one count of attempted child molestation, and one count of conspiring to hold the boy and his family hostage at the Neverland Ranch, Jackson had pleaded not guilty to all counts. Ten years previous to the allegations, Jackson reached an out of court settlement with the Arvizo family, Jackson did not learn his lesson from this and ten years
had to go through in his life in his attempts for justice to be served.
Innocent until proven guilty. This is a saying people use to basically say that until proof has been found, they didn’t do it. In court this is very true, one needs evidence to prove someone’s guilt or innocence. In the end, it’s the jury who makes the call. A jury is made up of all different people from all different backgrounds. Every person brings a different opinion and a different backstory to the jury table. In both the Conrad Murray trial and the play Twelve Angry Men, the jurors had to decide whether or not a man was guilty of murder. In both cases, the jurors most likely had previous opinions that could conceivably sway their decisions. Ultimately, on any court case, is difficult to get everyone on the jury to agree.

Steve Harmon is guilty of felony murder because he participated and had knowledge about a crime that ended up in the death of an innocent citizen. The judge stated the if you believe that Steve harmon took part in the crime than you must return a verdict of guilty. I believe that Steve went into the drugstore on that day for the purpose of being a lookout. Some of Steve’s journal entry’s lead to him feeling guilty or like a “monster”.
Which punishment is crueler, life in prison or the death penalty? This is an issue that many politicians and the average individual debate regularly. The death penalty is the more controversial of the two because the end result is the death of an individual; to many, no one deserves that even when considering their crimes, but to others those individuals got what they “deserved”. Robert Glen Jones Jr., a Caucasian male at the age of 43, was executed about a month ago on October 23, 2013 after being convicted on six counts of first–degree murder, which resulted in the death of seven individuals. Jones is one of 36 inmates in Arizona to have been executed sine 1992, but also another interesting piece to the provocative death penalty subject (Kiefer).
