When my parents first told me that it would be a good idea for me to read Tuesdays With Morrie, my perception of the memoir was that it was an account of an old man dying. This did not seem, to me, to be the most interesting topic to read about. I reluctantly began the book and soon became quite involved with the novel’s insightful progression. I initially thought I would construct a typical review of the novel and hand it in for a good grade. I then asked myself if I would learn anything by writing a summary. Two answers became evident. The first was that, of course, I would learn how to write yet another book report. The second was that I would not benefit at all from simply summarizing the memoir. I came to the conclusion that by focusing my paper on that which Morrie so eloquently taught the reader, both me and my teacher would gain insight and understanding about living life to it’s fullest.
Morrie’s message was, in short, not to become preoccupied with death and dying, but to live the life that you still have left in a meaningful and rewarding way. He believed that although death would soon take him, he wanted to teach others and share his ideas so that they could be passed on to future generations.
Mitch Albom is an alumnus of Brandeis University, where Morrie Schwartz taught for many years. Morrie left a lasting impression on Mitch and that impression is what eventually motivated Mitch to return to his wise professor. Mitch rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man’s life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch every Tuesday in his study, just as they had done in college days. Morrie taught Mitch his final lesson: how to live.
Morrie and Mitch’s relationship went far beyond that of a teacher and student. It turned into a friendship between two men. Morrie taught Mitch innumerable lessons about the world, feeling sorry for oneself, regrets, death, family, emotions, fear of aging, money, how love goes on, marriage, culture, forgiveness, and saying good-bye. Morrie never wanted sympathy from Mitch; only an open mind and heart. Morrie discussed his philosophies on life with Mitch and encouraged him to do the same. Morrie shared his strengths and his weaknesses with his student, allowing him to open up to his old professor in a way that would help him to recharge his existing life.

Stevenson’s most prominent character in the story is the mysterious Mr Hyde. Edward Hyde is introduced from the very first chapter when he tramples a young girl in the street, which brings the reader’s attention straight to his character. The reader will instantly know that this person is a very important part of this book and that he plays a key role in the story. This role is the one of a respectable old man named Dr Jekyll’s evil side or a ‘doppelganger’. This links in with the idea of duality. Dr Jekyll is described as being ‘handsome’, ‘well-made’ and ‘smooth-faced’. Throughout history, books and speeches have guided, entertained, informed and helped persuade people. The First Amendment guarantees our right to freedom of speech, which allows for us to read or write whatever book we want, and have the ability to have free speech. We all die, but how would you react if you knew your death was sooner than later? Morrie in the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” and Randy in the “Last Lecture” both are ill, and know they are going to die soon. At a first glance, you may think Morrie and Randy are very similar, both, dying, living life to the fullest, talking about complicated stuff, and both teaching. However, if you take the time to read “Tuesdays with Morrie” or listen to the “Last Lecture” you would realize that they show some superficial differences. In comparison there is many differences, what they talk about, who they are, the themes, the lessons learned.
Morrie's are the most basic lessons, but in a world full of suspicion, consumerism, and ostracized people, they need to be given again and again: We all should take time to stare out the window instead of at your computer screen. Have a laugh. It's natural to die. Love is how you stay alive.

Richard Stevenson made it apparent through his story of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde that duality of humans exist. It is as if everyone has a split personality and is in constant struggle between both. The 1941 movie adaptation creates a different element of love. It helps create a more appealing story line, which helps the audience relate. Through two different perspectives of both Mr.Utterson and Dr.Jekyll himself it gives the story a new component and lets the audience dive into the evil and good within us.
Morrie is getting worse and “Nightline”wants to have another interview with him before he passes. Morrie thinks his death is going to be soon so he wants to get the interview over with. His aphorism is significant because when we’re in bed we’re not doing anything but laying down or sleeping. We’re not out being active we’re doing nothing like a dead person. Love to me means never giving up on someone and always being there for them. Love is a strong word because most of the people who say the word don’t mean it. Love is always being taken for granted because of how people today abuse the word. It’s important in our world because if we didn’t have love most of us wouldn’t be happy or alive. Morrie talks about how memories are what keeps a person alive. He says if we can still hear a person’s voice when they’re not around we won’t forget them.
Morrie was given the opportunity to discuss his fears regarding his impending death. He was granted love and company in his final days. He was able to reach to Mitch to show him the importance of living. Mitch is shown life in a new perspective, without having to suffer the consequences of being terminally ill. He is given the knowledge of what it means to live a successful life. I believe both parties think they benefited themselves more than the other.
The reader is drawn to the plot of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde through the literary devices Stevenson employs. Foreshadowing displays the sense of mystery throughout the novel, the foreshadowing of the actions of Mr. Hyde leaves the reader wondering what will happen next. The ironic nature of Dr. Jekyll relates to the reader as a person, no person is completely perfect and Dr. Jekyll exhibits the natural wants and desires of humans. The irony behind Mr. Hyde adds an enigmatic side to the plot. These two devices expose the readers to the complexity of the novel and reveal the inner meaning of the hidden details.

Morrie’s messages about life in this book were not solely directed fro Mitch; they are meant for anyone who is willing to take the time to listen. For me, there is not only one thing I learned from Morrie. I learned that I should not take life for granted because you never know when it will be over. Even though I have heard it many times I never really believed that what the media says is not necessarily true, until I read this book. Finally, I learned that love and compassion, not only for others, but also for oneself are essential in living a happy life. It does not matter if someone is rich, or if they are poor for that matter. The truth is that as long as you lived your life as best you could, you learned from your mistakes, and you are happy with yourself, then you lead a fulfilling life.
