The Universe is Like a Magic Trick
The universe is like a magic trick because of the questions and beliefs that arise when something is shown to people that doesn't coincide with their beliefs about reality and what can and can't possibly happen. It causes many different reactions.
The universe, it's vastness, how it was created, and why we are a part of it amazes and astounds many people who are constantly searching for answers. Others believe they have the answers and try to persuade people to understand their view. Others don't even think about it at all.
When witnessing the tricks of magicians, most people say, "Wow, that was amazing." The thought, question or statement that comes next is what I perceive makes the universe like a magic trick.
Those words could be, "He must have magical powers," or "I know it was a trick, it was fun to watch and now I am going to go do something else," or "I know it was a trick, I want to figure out how it was done," or "He can't fool me though, I know how he did it, listen and I'll tell you how."
People who immediately assume that the magician really has magical powers merely by trusting what they saw are the people I would coin as unexposed to commonly know "reality." A good example is young children. When attending a magic show, they may know that they can not do what they just saw, but will believe that the person performing for them can somehow. They may not question how they were tricked at all. Their connection to reality will be made when someone tells them that it was a trick. Then the child will ask how it was done. They will either be satisfied with the answer they receive or not. They will have a change in character at this point.
Those who know and accept they where tricked, are happy that they have been entertained, and go about their business without wondering how, are the people I would classify as doers. I think that the majority of people in the world are doers. These are people who go along doing this and that without ever trying to seek solutions to life's unanswered questions. These type of people are happy knowing what they know. They are open to learning new things as they are brought to their attention through daily routines.
‘You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of
was seen as a work of art, falling into place and creating an illusion as if it were known what was to follow.
Is the world one see around them really how it is or are they being deceived?
Out of This World is an outstanding card effect that many magicians have improved upon and performed with their own unique twist, including me. Out of this world has been billed as “The Greatest Card Trick of The Last Century,” and also “The Trick That Fooled Winston Churchill.” According to Curry a magician by the name of Harry Green performed Out of This World for Churchill, the effect fooled Churchill so he demanded it be shown to him again. Harry Green did so, he performed it six more times for Churchill and left him completely baffled every time. The method is simple yet deceptive, and it is truly a classic of card magic. So now with much excitement, I present to you my re-telling of Paul Curry’s Out of This
For as long as they have existed, humans have had ideas about what the universe holds. Through the millennia they have come to know quite a bit about what is out there, yet the universe is so vast, the greatest human minds have not been able to find everything. However, thanks to a relatively new theory called panpsychism, there may just be an answer. David J Chalmers, an Australian philosopher and cognitive scientist, has written a research paper titled, “Panpsychism and Panportopsychism,” that may allow some more understanding on what really is out there, through his use of ethos, logos, and diction.
To fully explore how magical realism operates within Shadow Tag, it is imperative to understand
By this, one could easily say that self-knowledge is necessary in order to understand reality for what it is as well as one’s self. Occasionally though, appearance does, in fact, lead to the truth through deception. For example the deception of Beatrice and Benedict into thinking that the other one loved them lead to their true feelings of love for each other to come into light. Also, by the false arrest of Borachio for slander of Don John, it comes out that Don John is the reason that innocent Hero is accused of committing adultery the night prior to her wedding. But those that are blind physically can still imagine the picture of the puzzle they assemble, yet a person that is mentally blind will never understand the picture sitting in front of them enough to erect the puzzle in the first place.
In The Wizard of Oz (1939), Dorothy and her friends journey to the Emerald City in seek of Oz – the great and powerful wizard. Upon finally reaching him, Dorothy’s dog opens a curtain to reveal that the Wizard is merely an ordinary man speaking into a microphone while using various knobs and levers to create a smoke-and-mirrors effect. In many ways this story is similar to the creation and interpretation of religion by individuals within society.
...thing but the continual torrent of concepts across the page. The turgid stream of blood coursing through my veins made of water is magic. The birth canal for original life, the place where land meets water is magic. The potential for life wherever there is water is magic. The feeling of being connected to everything through water is magic. The best memories in life can surface because water is magic. This only ripples the surface for some of the ways water is magic. My ten minutes of water watching brings to me a lifetimes reverie, and it represents one sentence of one page of my thirty-two year tome. The ultimate magic of water is that it is an billion year book, it tells an endless story, and provokes an endless bubbling of insight.
this magic that took place results in many of the illusions that were created on
Miracles are capable of happening to anyone around the world and there is no way of telling when they are going to happen. They do go against what the laws of nature state but that doesn’t mean that they are not possible and you do not need to believe in God in order for them to happen to you. Even though they do appear in the Bible that does not mean God is the only reason why they occur. Miracles do happen in every day life, but they are completely unpredictable because if they were predictable they would not be called miracles they would be considered ordinary events that could be explained by sciences. Miracles can be objected, but many people have also claimed to witness them in their own lives. A miracle is an unexpected event that can’t be explained by natural or scientific laws and is the work of a divine agency.
The brilliant Albert Einstein once stated “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” Illusions, or that which causes our misinterpretations, surround us. Our society loves to deceive and to be deceived. People eagerly flock to magic shows and our children are exposed to countless optical illusions as they go through school; illusions are an integral part of society. As a result, Alyssa and I decided to create our own illusion. After a little research we stumbled upon a drawing of a Rubik cube that, when viewed straight on, appears real. However, turning the page reveals that it is indeed a drawling. Alyssa then embarked on the task to recreate the incredible illusion.
Magic is the marvelous in reality. Everyday living is magic alone, trying to survive the rat race of today's society, yet the marvelous is there, too. Simpkins spoke of the marvelous, fantastic, and other things pertaining to magical realism (146). Simpkins states that magical realism appears to overcome the "limits" of realism (145).
However, in both works, there is a mutual consent that the imagination allows the imaginer to gain insight into many wondrous, spectacular, and otherwise incomprehensible feats and workings of nature, things that cannot be explained by the mere application of reason and mathematics alone.
Many events were unexplainable and maybe even seemed to be magical before science evolved to what it is today. All questions relating to the origin of life can be answered scientifically. One may question their beliefs based on scientific theory. Human life can be broken down to fundamental theory. Not only geological or biological, but also all events can be answered scientifically. Magic and magicians have certain function in society. The impossible becomes unexplainable, whether it is fact or fiction. But truly in the minds of magicians, their purpose in life is to leave a mystery, a mystery that science is unable to explain. They leave their mark and give people something to think about, a mark which will never be forgotten. Although magic is able to deceive the minds of many, few understand its effect of misdirection of the human mind.
