The Emphasis on School Sports
In Today's High School we are afforded the opportunity to not only expand or minds but or bodies as well. We are free to join a wide variety of groups out side our required class studies. Weather it be math, seince, band, language, or a variety of sports we are free to choose. However there are those who are determined to take those choices a way from us. These poor miss guided soles believe their way is the only way. More often then not when these type of people talk of taking away certain choices they tend to target sports, considering them to be barbaric and uneducational. When it is in fact they who are turning back the wheels of intellectual enlightenment with the narrow-minded view that we should all be alike.
In order for us athletes we are the only one that are hounded by the coaches singled out in front of our teachers told that we need to get our grades we are constantly holding grades that is higher than most of the other students in our schools. There is a program that makes very strict rules for us and that there is no gray line and that we all must meet the standards of a 2.0 or better no more than one "F" or we can not participate in that certain sport we can not ditch a class or get suspended for a certain amount of days. There is no if and or butts. To this program it holds one of the highest standards of them all and that is all of as in every member of every sport including sprit squad and that is Colorado High School Athletic Association . This is the panel that makes the rules and enforces them upon anyone and everyone with no exceptions.

school in the year. Out of the about 1500 plus students about 500 of them are athletes and they all do the same things at school they have no special exception to the school rules and they can not get away with anything that a normal student would.

Something that Slington does makes the whole new perspective out of it by giving some pros about it. In this argument the author is correct in her point because high school students are considered as kids, and kids do not have a set mind. Although their minds are sharp they may not able to handle different things at once. Academics are another problem too, this means that if academics goes high means less participation in sports and when sports goes skyrocketing then the academics put pressure on students. Imagine this, Friday night, bright lights, the smell of popcorn, your classmates in the stands cheering you on, and the coolest thing of them all, the name of your own school on your jersey, representing the whole school. Some schools think sports cost too much money, but being a student is harder than ever. You are being held to tougher academic standards-and so is your school and that's why it is more important than ever for schools to keep sports because private and club sports are too expensive for most families and sport programs in school can affect and improve academic skills.
Priority! All student athletes receive priority over the general students. When it comes to housing Athletes are put together and given the newest, sometimes even special separated housing. Then the common student is left to fend for his or her self. The class selection is also given priority. Athletes will be given first pick for the best, easiest, and most sought after classes. The general enrollee will stand in line and fend for themselves were the Athlete just signs and says ok. But in the class is were the fun begins.
In the top countries, students do not play sports in high school. On the other hand, school is to educate students not to score high on an “international math test” (Sato 1). Amanda Ripley’s idea that athletics are a distraction in “The Case Against High-School Sports” sparked within me the question of whether all people are equally distracted by athletics in an environment which is heavily focused on academics. The author states, “During football season in particular, the focus of American principals, teachers, and students shifts inexorably away from academics.” I can clearly remember a day last May in high school where I had a late football practice and two AP test the following morning. Athletics in American schools have always been controversial for many reasons. Some of these reasons include health concerns, safety precautions, and academic significance. Daniel H. Bowen and Colin Hitt wrote an article titled, “High-School Sports Aren’t Killing Academics” to present the factors of positive correlation between success in athletics and academics. I believe that athletics in high schools not only benefit students socially, but also academically.
College sports has become like a job with players getting paid in scholarships, and the coach being the boss. The players must do what the coaches tell them to, and that is not always the best thing because coaches will do whatever it takes to win and earn money, even encouraging the use of drugs (Peck 36). Sometimes when coaches want players to come to their schools, they will give them preferential treatment and benefits while they participate in college sports regardless of NCAA rules (Saffici and Pellegrino 1 of 6). There is no doubt that college athletics are changing and becoming a big business, so the rules associated with how student-athletes are treated must change too (Saffici and Pellegrino 1 of 6).
After reading " The Case Against High School Sports" by Amanda Ripley started to make me think. There were many strong points about how the priorities of the sports are beginning to be more important to students than their education. Another great point was that the financing and budgeting is unfairly distributed throughout school districts and is spent more on athletics and clubs and not enough on classes. And I Believe that schools should put certain restrictions on the spending and promoting or in school sports and clubs because of the major drop in national and world comparisons.
Some of these students are star athletes and recreation becomes the primary factor in their lives. It has been set into their minds when they were young by their parents and piers. Early in their lives the child is taught the importance of being the best and nothing else matters. The school system now comes to realize how important this athlete has become to the school team and grades are given to keep the student on the team, and problems are just pushed aside.
High school athletics leave a major impact on everybody that is involved with them. It also can even leave a mark on people who aren’t associated with them. There are many conflicting opinions on whether high school sports are a positive or negative influence on a student’s life. Athletics in high school can have an effect on the community as a whole. In H.G. Bisssinger’s highly regarded Friday Night Lights, high school football is accurately portrayed as the most important thing in Texas; it receives much more attention than academics. Football players are often treated like celebrities; yielding confidence, and at the same time creating pressure.
Covering all, we should revise the rules of Fort Bend ISD and change it. Having a sport in a school is a privilegeto one because some don’t due to the lack of money.It’s important for many students: it can help students in future possibilities such as athletics and their character. Knowing sports can change a person physically and mentally by making them smart, respectful, and healthier. Being in an after school activity is rewarding experience to all the students who are going to dedicated and focused on school and in the activity. Finally, student will be rewarded after school after the hard work throughout the day. Sports can influence students in many ways like character, making better graders, and lack of obesity. Fort Bend ISD should allow sixth graders to participate in physical activates: sixth graders would be satisfied.
Around the country, college athletic programs are pushing their athletes more and more every day. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is an association set up to regulate the athletic programs of colleges in the United States and Canada such as eligibility, sportsmanship, and play. Due to NCAA rules, the “student” comes first in “student athlete.” This means that in order to be a full time student, 12 credit hours a semester are required, and in order to compete in athletics, students must maintain a core GPA of 2.3 or higher. It may seems easy right now but throw in lifting, games and practices, along with team meetings, and you’ve got yourself a full time job on the side.
Student athletes live very busy lives. A typical school day runs from 8:00-2:30, add in a two- hour practice or game, score a part time job, dive into some family time, a grand slam of homework and catch a little bit of sleep. Students are more stressed due to the many activities they are a part of. This issue affects a lot of people not only in this school district, but most other high schools throughout the country. All student athletes exercise more than other children who are not involved in an extracurricular sport. When there are less kids, there is a greater opportunity for kids to be involved. They can be in several sports, performing arts, or any group they desire. I was involved in volleyball, football managing, basketball, track, cheerleading, softball, choir, and student council. I was always busy with projects or practices “promotes an overall feeling of unity and social solidarity (Schaefer 2016:18). Activities and “sports serve as a safety value for other participants and spectators, who are allowed to shed tension and aggressive energy in a socially acceptable way” (Schaefer 2016:18). At big schools, not every kids has a chance to be involved and so they have to get their anger out some other way, which can lead to bad things. Since I have been involved in many activities and had ways to relieve my anger I do not need another way; therefore, I have not gotten into bad situations. I am satisfied that I haven’t missed out on an activity that I have wanted to do because of my school. Sadly, this does not happen in all schools. Many large schools do not give the students the same chances because there is more competition. At these schools, kids have to compete to be on an extracurricular team. They really have to specialize in the organization or else they do not have the opportunity to be a part of the activity. Many have to specialize in this extracurricular activity
