The Causes of Terror
There are (at least) three kinds of causes of radical Islamic terrorism:
i. Worldview: The Religious Rationale
ii. Social and Political Conditions: Cultures of Despair
iii. Means: The Enabling Conditions
The Bush administration has discussed only the third: The means that enable attacks to be carried out. These include: leadership (e.g., bin Laden), host countries, training facilities and bases, financial backing, cell organization, information networks, and so on. These do not include the first and second on the list.
i. Worldview: Religious Rationale
The question that keeps being asked in the media is, "Why do they hate us so much?" It is important at the outset to separate out moderate to liberal Islam from radical Islamic fundamentalists, who do not represent most Muslims.
Radical Islamic fundamentalists hate our culture. They have a worldview that is incompatible with the way that Americans-and other westerners-live their lives. One part of this world view concerns women, who are to hide their bodies, have no right to property, and so on. Western sexuality, mores, music, and women's equality all violate their values, and the worldwide ubiquity of American cultural products, like movies and music, offends them. A second part concerns theocracy: they believe that governments should be run according to strict Islamic law by clerics. A third concerns holy sites, like those in Jerusalem, which they believe should be under Islamic political and military control. A fourth concerns the commercial and military incursions by Westerners on Islamic soil, which they liken to the invasion of the hated crusaders. The way they see it, our culture spits in the face of theirs. A fifth concerns jihad-a holy war to protect and defend the faith. A sixth is the idea of a martyr, a man willing to sacrifice himself for the cause. His reward is eternal glory-an eternity in heaven surrounded by willing young virgins. In some cases, there is a promise that his family will be taken care of by the community.
ii. Social and Political Conditions: Cultures of Despair
Most Islamic would-be martyrs not only share these beliefs but have also grown up in a culture of despair: they have nothing to lose. Eliminate such poverty and you eliminate the breeding ground for terrorists. When the Bush administration speaks of eliminating terror, it does not appear to be talking about eliminating cultures of despair and the social conditions that lead one to want to give up one's life to martyrdom.
September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
...nd something that the consumer would buy. Wozniak changed the computer industry because once he made his computer and Steve WozniakÕs prankster nature changed the world for ever. Since he tended not to listen to what people say, he didnÕt get discouraged when people told him he was wrong or that he would fail. He just kept on working.
Michael’s memorial service was held on July 7th, 2009 (Collins 26). “An estimated one billion people around the world watched his televised memorial service” (Collins 29). Michael’s childhood home was transformed into a shrine in his honor (Collins 29). Michael lives on today through his family, his fans, and most importantly his music. He was a true inspiration to many. Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.
On September 11, 2001 the United States of America was targeted for a terrorist attack. This attack, known as 9/11, has many theorized and some proved causes. 9/11 has affected America greatly and even continues to now. Effects began in September, 2001 and continues all the way to modern time. Major effects include social, political and economical effects that are within the country. Another major effect is America’s response to her foreign culprits. There are many causes and effects of the 9/11 attack on the United States of America.
Michael was a singer, songwriter and a dancer. He was known as the most influential pop star from the 20th century, which gained him the moniker “King Of Pop”. His music was dominant across the country, across all demographics. As a musician, I consider him vastly historically significant in the 20th century, as his music was largely diverse, including Pop, rock, disco, and Jazz, and it expanded to not only the 1900s, but the early 2000s. Musicians in the 20th century, a time of innovation, were very impactful, but Michael Jackson’s significance spanned further than just his direct impact on the genre. As seen in the worldwide reaction to his passing,he highly renowned, and his mark was
Very few people will contest that Walt Whitman may be one of the most important and influential writers in American literary history and conceivably the single most influential poet. However many have claimed that Whitman’s writing is so free form as evident in his 1855 Preface to Leaves of Grass and Song of Myself that it has no style. The poetic structures he employs are unconventional but reflect his very democratic ideals towards America. Although Whitman’s writing does not include a structure that can be easily outlined, masterfully his writing conforms itself to no style, other then its own universal and unrestricted technique. Even though Whitman’s work does not lend itself to the conventional form of poetry in the way his contemporaries such as Longfellow and Whittier do, it holds a deliberate structure, despite its sprawling style of free association.
One of the most important parts of President Bush’s speech was to tell the world that terrorism would not be tolerated any longer and we were going to war. In this address he told his audience, which included the Americans, their allies across the world, and the people responsible for these attacks, that the United States was going to fight terrorism until it was overcome and eradicated. He asked for support from varying nations to end the horror of this type of warfare. He also indicated to the terrorists that there was no where they could run or hide, no matter who they were or who ...
I always combine different elements of design and combine it to make a new game environment. Game design needs illustration, story boarding, environment design, character design, color and knowledge of composition because when all of these elements combine “boom” a piece of art is born. These things inspire me all the time and make me feel that I still have many things to learn before I label myself as game designer. Computer is the main medium by which I deliver and show my work, without computer it is almost impossible to make games. For example I always like post-apocalyptic games and when I was applying in Academy of Art University I made a game environment for my demo reel and that environment was inspired form game Fallout so, when there was no source from which I can make, this game just popped in my mind and helped me in making my environment and computer technology helped me in shaping it. I feel like video games at this point are intrinsically linked into our culture in a way that’s irrevocable, I think form here on video games root deeper and deeper into everything we are doing, until they are just part of our lives and source of inspiration for some of us that many of us don’t even notice. They affect my work a lot because they are my book they are my bible. I learn from in game mistake and fix them in my design in a way my influence is helping me in developing my work
Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, entitled " The Poet", takes the reader into a new awareness concerning an artistic writer. This essay created new insight about a writer's handicraft. Emerson shows us how a poet uses his gift to connect a non-artist of words to feelings that he is unable to express. A poet uses his God-given ingredient, the soul, to describe the things that engulf our lives. We, that do not have this talent, are given this connection by the writings in "The Poet".
Computer programming can be a gateway job to many other interesting jobs. Programmers work in a wide variety of industries (Career Cruising). Programming can lead to making software for hospitals, banks, or even schools. But a very popular job for programmers is being part of a game development team. Programming can also lead to working for big companies like Google or Yahoo.
Game programmers and Engineers are similar in their career fields. Both including critical thinking, programming skills, innovation for new technology, and patience. Some use the same programs and/or similar programs too in order to code or program new products. Throughout my research, I discovered that both fields are growing and becoming more in demand. Although game programming are said to be a not so stable job I think their equal in stability with engineering jobs. Since the gaming industry is growing as well and not go anywhere for a long time. All around both fields are interesting and seem fun to be a career in the future.
Presently, video games aren’t merely toys that negatively influence the youth. They have become an alternative means for people to learn and train for work. Games teach values and essential information, and motivate its players to achieve goals. Soldiers and doctors benefit from video games as well. The collaboration of game developers and educators helps improve the quality of educational games. At present, as technology progresses, one can truly see that video games have become an important factor in learning.
Poetry, like any other piece of literature, is written to express certain emotion, feeling or idea as desired by the author. Without a defined format, poems come in all sorts of variations, each with it’s own sound, smell, and taste. The most successful poems masterfully give readers the Ah Ha! experience and invoke in them incomprehensible emotions that render them vulnerable to the poets message. William Shakespeare’ s Sonnet 18 and Sylvia Plath’s Metaphors adequately contain imagery, lineation, and tone to shape the meaning and allow the rest to the readers perception. However, no matter how elegant the poem may be structured the poem is nothing without the readers interpretation. Poetry is brought to life by the authors ability to use words in combinations that allow readers to create their own story.
I was dumbfounded to know that games are nothing but programs. Curious to know how to program I developed a serious interest in Computers. This keen interest in mathematics along with a strong liking for computers, and particularly programming, prompted me to choose engineering with Computer Science as my major. This decision gave me ample opportunity to consolidate my creative energies and harness my technical
The Internet is an extremely educational and communicative tool. Everyone can access a tremendous amount of information and connect with people on the other end of the planet; it is capable of doing everything. Nowadays, the society is facing a variety of challenges and controversies which are mostly related to religion, morality, the economic crisis, etc., and the most talked-about issue in today’s world is “Internet censorship”. Although the Internet is very useful, many people are suggesting the idea of censoring the Internet; however, the government should not censor the Internet because a free and open Internet usage has many positive impacts on people’s lives.
