Gay and Lesbian Rights
She is a lover. She is a butch, *censored* loving Lesbo. She loves breasts, and enjoys cunnilingus ; one of the many forbidden ways Lesbian women *censored* each other. She is your next door neighbor, and the running joke at your work place; she is a dateline special you forbid your children to watch. When you see her and her girlfriend in public, you stare long and hard, exemplifying a demoralizing snare that could ward away the devil. You are a wimp, a futile, close-minded discriminating person. The sad part is, you bring this garbage to church with you, asking God to diminish her corrupt ways, in order for the world to be "normal." Do not allow yourself to be fooled by your own ignorance and stupidity; things are not always as they may seem.
You poke fun at things you do not understand; you are like a five-year-old child who grosses out at the sight of two heterosexual adults kissing in public. You push her far, and when she is down, you do not look back. Perhaps you are the only faggot here. You are just a product of society's dictation. You are an ASAP in the queer community, trying to dictate the moral rules and regulations concerning love and relationships. You try to tell people who they should be attracted to, how many partners one can or can not have, or what a real woman and man is. You represent the same puke that mainstream society has been trying to shove down our throats for decades, and now we have a new decade of pompous, self-righteous baboons within our own community pontificating the same drivel.
Does she scare you? Does she make you nervous? Does your body itch and shiver in passing? Do you break out in a rash? Oh that must be terrible for you. Perhaps you are so frustrated because she is happy and well adjusted. You are so uncomfortable with her sexual preference; you cannot possibly imagine why she would not share the same pessimistic appraisal. She will no longer run and find a corner to tuck away in, trying to avoid you in public.
Spare her the preaching and the manipulation. She is a part of you, whether you like it or not. The more you condemn her, the more you try to make her feel uncomfortable for breathing the same air as you, the more enthusiastically she will seek out people who are made to feel as uncomfortable as she is.
not have time to consider her own personal feelings. She may believe that she is constantly being
Early on Sara had very secular morals and delved deeply into worldly things, never considering looking to Christ for fulfillment (Miles, 9). Miles wasn’t your typical convert either. She is also a lesbian, not that there is anything at all wrong with that, but that is a very controversial topic within the church. In my own experience, my parents are very conservative and don’t exactly agree with gay rights, but they aren’t hateful toward gays. For a long time I thought this way, that it wasn’t right for them to marry, but I wouldn’t say that God wouldn’t love them because I believed, and do believe that He loves everyone. Recently I have come around to the idea that gays should be able to have equal rights. I think this because in all honesty we really don’t know specifically what God wants here, but we do know that above everything else He wants us to love and respect one another. Adding to that, when we slip up I think that is what allows us to have that “hunger” for Jesus in our lives, because we need to rely on Him. As mentioned before Miles came from an atheist background, but her grandparents were missionaries. Her parents had never liked church, and felt that it was illogical to believe in such ideologies and as a result of that Sara adopted a lot of those values (Miles, 7). In a lot of ways I think Sara is still who she is; curious,
this is that going to church turns out to be the worst place for her to be
The ways she makes fun of me are unacceptable and would even annoy the most emotionless of students. First of all, she started a rumor that my new name was “Fathead” and even convinced the entire school. How would you feel if you were called that every day, huh? And to make things worse she goes beyond criticizing my outfits and just criticizes me in general. Even I know that some of you would be offended by these statements. You all need to hide your emotions soon before she bares her teeth and you and makes you her next victim, believe me.
The history of the gay rights movement goes as far back as the late 19th century. More accurately, the quest by gays to search out others like themselves and foster a feeling of identity has been around since then. It is an innovative movement that seeks to change existing norms and gain acceptance within our culture. By 1915, one gay person said that the gay world was a "community, distinctly organized" (Milestones 1991), but kept mostly out of view because of social hostility. According to the Milestones article, after World War II, around 1940, many cities saw their first gay bars open as many homosexuals began to start a networking system. However, their newfound visibility only backfired on them, as in the 1950's president Eisenhower banned gays from holding federal jobs and many state institutions did the same. The lead taken by the federal government encouraged local police forces to harass gay citizens. "Vice officers regularly raided gay bars, sometimes arresting dozens of men and women on a single night" (Milestones). In spite of the adversity, out of the 1950s also came the first organized groups of gays, including leaders. The movement was small at first, but grew exponentially in short periods of time. Spurred on by the civil rights movement in the 1960s, the "homophile" (Milestones) movement took on more visibility, picketing government agencies and discriminatory policies. By 1969, around 50 gay organizations existed in the United States. The most crucial moment in blowing the gay rights movement wide open was on the evening of July 27, 1969, when a group of police raided a gay bar in New York City. This act prompted three days of rioting in the area called the Stonewall Rio...
show her as being small and vulnerable. This sense of vulnerability shows that she is not in
One reason why I have a problem with it is because it would not be allowed for anyone else to do those things to her and she like it. We’ve had a conversation about those negative ways she seeks attention. I gave her my point over view and she gave me hers. I’ve tried to encourage her in ways to build her self-esteem, and to go back to school, to also to get her a hobbies outside of her disrespectful daughter and husband. I’ve asked her questions when she does things to get a better understanding myself. She said she was just trying to help when it comes to her inserting herself in conversations. For the most part we work well together. If she forgets where something is, I can usually remember or vice versa. If I know she has done something right and someone says she did it wrong I would back her up. I would do that for any of my co-workers. If she makes a mistake I would correct it and move on if I can. If I can’t I just send her a message and say Hey fix this or that I tried to but I couldn’t because it’s under your name and she would do the same for me. I told her It’s not about working harder it’s about
This woman, like lepers and tax collectors, was also considered an outcast. However, because Jesus came to save all people, we she touched him and was healed, he was not angry at her. He simply said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace” (Luke 8:48).
The discussion led to questioning if it is okay to call out bigotry and ignorance, which everyone at my table agreed was okay. This question relates to the many females we have learned about in class who have called out the ignorance and bigotry of others. Mary Daly is one example of a female who did not simply accept oppressive beliefs. Daly described the patriarchal structure of Christianity as “a problem” in her sermon, “The Women’s Movement: An Exodus Community” (Clark and Richardson, 312). She did not simply agree to disagree, she called it problem. The Church’s patriarchal structure is not just an opinion; it is a tool of oppression and
One of the biggest issues going to debate throughout not only the U.S. but the world is the gay rights movement. The Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) community is being denied their basic rights as citizens just because of their sexual preference and the opinion of people throughout the country. Many Christians believe that homosexuality is wrong and that God is against it but others believe that God creates everything for a reason and that He loves everything equally. Even though many people believe that homosexuality is a sin and that it’s unnatural and wrong, homosexuals are ordinary people and they should be given their full rights regardless of their sexual orientation.
Can you imagine losing one’s rights just for being one’s self? The Gay Rights movement is slowly gaining the rights back for gay people. This movement started in the 1960’s and it is still going on today. The main leader of the Gay Rights movement is Harvey Milk; the main followers are the people of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community, also known as the LGBT community. Milk’s main purpose to do the speech was to explain how similar gay people are to everyone else and to get the rights back that were taken away from them. There are even a lot of people who are not a part of the LGBT community that are also followers of Harvey Milk and support gay rights. The main purpose for this movement is to give gay people the same rights as straight people. The literary piece, “The Hope Speech”, by Harvey Milk contains the themes: A gay person was elected, everyone needs hope, and that gay people have come a long way. The speech somewhat explains how many gay people are stereotyped. The gay rights movement is manifested in “The Hope Speech” by Harvey Milk.
Legalization of gay marriage has been a major controversial topic for a long time. Although, many people do not know what it means to be homosexual, most people do not know the actual definition of homosexuality and they do not know how difficult it is to be gay in this society. There are many reasons why people are against gay marriage and homosexuals all together. Most of the reasons are based on religious bias another big reason is being afraid of the unknown. Some smaller reasons are that being heterosexual is such a social norm now a day’s people are not used to the change. Also parents often time tell kids that homosexuality is not a good thing because of there own views. Gay marriage should be legalized because most of the people who have a problem with it do not form complete thoughts and do not have a real reason that makes it not okay. Finally, what it takes to get gay marriage legal in Illinois is more complicated then one might think.
Have you ever thought how much progress the LGBT community has made and how it affects other people? The gay rights movement was and is currently a movement that “strives to end all discrimination towards the LGBT community” (Redlingshafer). As early as 1924, the Society for Human Rights in Chicago becomes United States’ earliest known gay rights organization (“Milestones in the American Gay Rights Movement”). However, most people recognize the Stonewall riot in 1969 as being the beginning of the gay rights movement. Almost ninety years later, society and the government have progressed over time and are still growing. Harvey Milk, author of “The Hope Speech”, was a politician who led a portion of the gay rights movement. Also, a more recent and well known leader of the movement is Dan Savage, the creator of the “It Gets Better Project”. The followers of the gay rights movement are not just homosexual. There are followers and supporters of every gender, race, and sexual orientation. The gay rights movement and its issues are represented in “The Hope Speech” by Harvey Milk.
Yes we all have known that this population has been around for so many years, but as a Mexican and being the only daughter it was hard for my friend to admit she was a lesbian when she was younger. She feels grateful for President Obama because he is the person that has welcomed this community to society, even though some individuals cannot accept the fact that the LGBT Community is here to stay my friend is happy for who she has become. A lot of anti LGBT religious people preach about being homosexual is a sin and that is a subjected that she gets irritated about, no one is perfected in this world. Being a lesbian does not make my friend any different when it comes to believing in God. As a lesbian and with kids no one has the right to judge her but only God. My friend goes to Abundant Living Faith Christian Church, she only attends that church for the reason being that she feels welcome by that church. She attends service with her wife and her kids, not even once she has felt and awkward stare or she has never felt people talking down to them because they are a lesbian
If the constitution promises equality before the law, what justification can there be for clearing rights to any member of society? More specifically what justification can there be for clearing rights to gays and lesbians? Lots of questions come to mind when the topic of gays and lesbians having equal rights as any other citizen in society would have. Should gays and lesbians have equal employment opportunities? Should they have the right to adopt a child, and should they have the right to marry their own sex partner. Well of course they should have the right to do all of these things just because they are human beings also.
