Another presidential election season has come and will surely drag on for another six long arduous boring months. The primaries went by quicker than ever leaving us with our two nominees for president: George W. Bush and Al Gore. Yes, everyone is thinking it: another “lesser of two evils” election. Voter turnout is at an all time low. People are fed up with their “choices” and just do not vote. Currently the races for president is a dead heat, not because people do not care or are not informed, but because the people have seen that all the candidates are the same. There is no choice because there is no difference.
There is little difference between Al Gore and George W. Bush and the people know it. In a recent Newsweek poll published last March the vote was evenly split: Al Gore had 44% and George W. Bush had 47%. It’s a virtual coin flip. The candidates are the same on so many issue’s no one knows which is which and just picks one blindly. You can even add Senator John McCain into the race and the vote still comes out even: Gore 28%, Bush 35%, and McCain 32%. But of course John McCain says he won’t be running for president so who will McCain voters vote for? Gore 37%, Bush 48%. The list goes on and on with many variables. 49% of men would vote for Bush with the other 43% siding with Gore. With women it’s a dead tie: 45% Gore, 45% Bush. By region you ask? In the North East Gore is favored 49% to 33%. In the both the Midwest and South Bush is favored 49% to 40% and 57% to 40%, and finally in the West the coin flips in Gore’s favor again 50% to 43%.
Look at the issues at hand: Both Bush and Gore support the death penalty, NAFTA, increased Pentagon spending. Immediate Universal Heath care? Both Bush and Gore oppose it along with the ban on handguns and assault weapons. Foreign policy? Bush supports the air strikes on Iraq, Gore supports the air strikes on Iraq. Bush supports the embargo on Cuba. Speaking of Cuba, Gore said, “I think Elian should stay”. 2 days later Bush states that he thinks Elian should stay.
Both President Bush and President Obama had very different ways of running the country during their presidencies. Overall, President Bush used less persuasion on major domestic and foreign policies than President Obama. With these differences among the presidents, they both passed and approved laws that would try to better the nation and it’s citizens.
In the United States of America, every four years, American citizens sit down and vote upon who they would like to be the new up and coming president. Citizens often debate on different aspects that would affect their presidencies, such as their domestic and foreign policies. The two past United States Presidents of Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt are two presidents that are often compared on their different policies due to their family background. After realizing that the two are brothers, individuals often assume that the two are similar in their policies, while in fact, this is certainly not the case. While some Americans may believe that Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt are similar in their presidencies
First lets look at Al Gore’s brief history. Al Gore was born on March 31, 1948
In 1992 the incumbent president George Bush was seeking reelection. It was the general consensus that he would be the 'hands down, no contest winner'. When the smoke had cleared and the votes were tallied, many were shocked at the results. Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton had defeated the incumbent by a landslide! How could this be? How did the commander and chief of what could be considered the greatest victory in modern American history defeat the Iraqi army and one year later lose the election for the presidency? The answers to these questions as well as explanations for the outcome lie within the campaign strategies and tactics used by each candidate. There were various major political events and public opinion data that occurred throughout the general election stage of the campaign. This paper will analyze both the political events and the public opinion data, in hopes of developing a better understanding as to what helped shape the overall outcome. There were three candidates in the race for the presidency, President Bush (R), Bill Clinton (D), and Ross Perot (I). Each of the three, to a greater or lesser extent, focused their campaign on the economy. President Bush focused more of his campaign on criticizing his opponents primarily Bill Clinton. He would often compare the economy to that of other nations, claiming it wasn't all that bad and resumed attacking his opponents. Bill Clinton on the other hand focused his campaign strategy on implementing the need for 'change.' At that time the national debt and unemployment was rising. Clinton vowed to improve the economy and the quality of life for the American people by bringing about change. Ross Perot was more of a crusader against Washin...
The presidential election is coming up in 2016 and with this comes all the excited voters. These voters wildly throw their support towards various candidates. Since there are enough candidates to start a baseball team, there are varrious types of voters. Some voters look more for the entertainers that might go to war with every country, but hey, at least they are fun to watch on TV. Others look for people who they think are actually suited for the presidency, and some people do not even vote.
In the end, Florida’s 25 electoral votes gave Bush, the republican, 271 total electoral votes. Al Gore, a democrat, ended up with a total of 266 electoral votes. A majority of electoral votes is required to achieve victory in either the President or Vice-President position. (princeton.edu)
show that Bush would have won Florida either way if there was a recount. However later studies also showed that if the undervotes and overvotes were recounted, Gore would have won Florida but his legal team did not take any action. Sadly after 36 days of recount fighting for the Florida recount of votes, “Gore gave the presidency to Bush on December 13, 2000” (CNN Politics). However, Gore had great chances of reclaiming Florida especially if his legal team took action on the -16,000 votes and the fact that there were 360,000 votes that were not even counted but Gore did not want to fight and instead gave the presidency away.
In the midst of one of the most controversial presidential elections in history, both political parties are struggling to prove that their candidate is the best choice. Clinton and Trump’s disapproval ratings are very low, but one has to ask, is there really a lesser evil to choose from? While Clinton has had her own fair share of past discrepancies, Trump’s track record proves much more troublesome. Donald Trump has proven to be an untrustworthy presidential candidate because of his misogynistic actions, his racial bias, and his corrupt business history.
Gore’s The Assault on Reason, is Gore’s way of telling America to open their eyes and not be so gullible to the politicians’ games. Throughout the book he relates the problems with America now, to how the founders would have liked it, or tried to preserve our democracy. He never refers to our democracy as dead, but rather ill. There is a growing ignorance and neglect for political facts among the voting public, and many politicians are considering the voter’s consent something with monetary value, something that can be bought or sold. Factors such as reason, logic, and facts used to play a crucial role in the national conversation, but now it is as if it is myth. An example of the growing ignorance that Gore uses in his book even caught me
Al Gore is a very well know man across the world in many developed countries. His work on climate change and his political career is what got him to where he is now. He was born in Washington, D.C. on March, 31 1948. He attended Harvard University, where he got his degree in government with high honors. He was also in Vanderbilt Law School many years later, after his time being a military journalist. He dropped out of this school to become a politician serving in the house for four terms and many years in the senate. This all leads up to him running for president in 1988 and losing the primary. In 1992 Bill Clinton chose him as his Vice president for his election as president, they won their two terms and Gore ran in the 2000 election and
2016 was an election that offered two candidates that the world felt they already knew. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party chose their candidate based on who they thought capable of beating the other nominee. We will compare and contrast the presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump; looking at their personal backgrounds, views on health care and views on the economy.
It is not about “what you do”, “it is about who you are and who you know”. As employees, we have all heard sayings like this before when it comes to the business world. The “power and politic” mindset is a direct result of the type of tug of war experienced for millions of years; from prehistoric times through modern day. Ever since Ugha smashed Mugha in the head with a club back in prehistoric times, politics have been around in the workplace. Politics are a subliminal fight for survival and it actually happens in personal lives as much as it does in our work lives. Politics can go hand in hand with power, just as night follows the day. Many of the political situations that occur within a corporation are a result of growth and change. However, part of the task of becoming a viable asset to a corporation is to look beyond the surface and find out where the company is heading as a result of these changes. In this way, employees can position themselves to be a positive part of the growth and change.
As a people we should keep in mind that, the candidates running for president are very intelligent people who have run successful campaigns. There are two sides to every coin and these two candidates each have their own side of the coin arguing the validity of each. Each side has its own merits and faults, and they have been debated for as long as our nation has stood. Both are valid arguments and we should be conscious of this but one of the candidates does not rise up to the standards of a valid argument. They have based their campaigns on exploiting the public’s fear of the government and appealing to ignorance. They have taken the majestic beauty of America and warped it into a dismal vision. They have divided us on how we view America,
What is politics? Throughout history, people have participated in politics on many different levels. They may have participated through a direct democracy, in which they directly governed, or they may have participated through a representative democracy, in which they participated by electing representatives. As citizens’, people have participated in politics to attain the things they needed or wanted, the valued things. Participation in politics has been the way that people have a voice and change the things that directly affect their lives. Throughout the course of history, politics has been the competition of ideas; they decide who gets what, when, where and how.
What Is Politics On hearing the word politics, what usually springs to mind are images of government, politicians and their policies or more negatively the idea of corruption and dirty tricks. The actual definition seems to have been obscured and almost lost by such representations and clichés that tend not to pinpoint the true essence, which defines this thing, called politics. In order to make an attempt at a definition of politics a systematic approach is required. To begin with, a brief historical overview will be considered, to understand the origins of politics. Following this, different core concepts, which are imperative to a definition of politics, will be discussed, in the hope to discover a true and fair interpretation of the word politics.
