Investigating a Ski Jump
Background Knowledge: I will use formulas in the prediction to predict
what will happen. The main formulas I will use will be
Loss of potential energy = mgh m=mass g=gravity h=height
Ek =1/2mv² Ek= kinetic energy v=velocity
In the experiment the ball bearing will begin with potential energy.
In order to predict the distance the ball travels I need to find out
the horizontal speed of the ball upon leaving the rail. I will do this
by making Ek equal to mgh to make a new formula, then making it equal
to velocity.
mgh = 1/2mv² gh = 1/2v² v² = ¶2gh
v=¶19.6h h= height started v=velocity g=9.8
This formula will be used to find the horizontal speed of the ball
which in the air will not change as I am ignoring air resistance.
After finding the horizontal speed I will need to find the amount of
time the ball is in air which is the same every time.
S =ut + 1/2at² s = distance u= intial velocity a= accelaration t= time
Aim: To investigate how changing the height a ball is dropped on a
ramp changes the distance it travels.
Prediction: During my prediction I will use these formulas which I
worked out in my background knowledge.
v= ¶19.6h v=velocity h=height
t=¶2s s= distance a= acceleration t= time
a
Vt =distance
In the prediction I can ignore the amount of time it takes to hit the
floor as it will not change.
In the final formulae only velocity will change so it has a direct
correlation. As height is the only variable in the formula velocity
also has a direct correlation.
Therefore I predict that as height of the ball increases distance the
ball travels will increase to.
In the results I will make a graph with height the ball is dropped
from on the axis and the formula ¶19.6h on the x axis and ¶2s
a

In lacrosse, the overhead shot is the most vital part of the game and the most important skill that an offensive player can have. The goal of the lacrosse shot is to create a scoring attempt with peak speed and accuracy. Each player is different regarding personal technique; however, the basis of each shot remains the same and are interpreted through six phases. The general purpose of this paper is to describe trunk rotation and its impact on power and accuracy which will maximize the potential of a lacrosse shot.
For potential energy we know that PE=mgh, where PE= Potential Energy, m=mass, g=acceleration due to gravity, and h=height.
Put together a plan of action to progress the person demonstrating the unskilled movement so that it becomes a skilled movement. This may involve movement cueing, additional resistance training, technique coaching, mobility work, or anything else you deem necessary to address your patient/client’s insufficiencies. Provide a 1-2 page written description of your plan, plus a 3-5 minute YouTube video of yourself coaching someone (friend or relative) through the necessary steps for improvement. You may want to review chest analysis video in week 5’s lab https://youtu.be/kDCIXNb4m3k as an example. In the video, provide an example of how the patient/client previously moved, what you did to address the insufficiencies you noted in CAP 6, and a
Cross-country skiing is as much of a competitive sport, as it is a back country one. Cross-country skiing is enjoyed by people of all ages, and can be relatively inexpensive. There is no need for lift tickets and with a little maintenance equipment can last for decades. As a result of its broad audience, many people don't realize that physics plays a large role in cross-country skiing. This web page was designed to briefly describe some of the concepts behind the physics of skiing, and give a basic understanding of both the sport and the science.
Though my 2015-2016 season ended suddenly, I accomplished multiple things for the short amount of time I had. In the past season’s open races, I was on the podium 3 of the 5 open races I skied in and was top ten in the other two. Though I was unable to attend the Western Region U-16 Championship, I was able to qualify having only completed 6 of the 9 races due to injury. For the 6 races I placed consistently in the top ten with one top 5 and three results just outside of the top ten. Though it was frustrating to not be able to improve as I usually do throughout the season, my almost two months of racing this season were certainly beneficial and aided in my growth as an athlete.
The typical snowboard is designed to face the toughest conditions in any climate, even though it's use is mainly during the winter. In general, a snowboard is composed of several layers to attain a durable, yet light structure. Making the surfaces of a snowboard with a minimal friction coefficient is essential in the snowboard manufacturing industry.
You can learn to ski at any age. It does not matter what age you are when you learn how because you are taught the same techniques no matter what. The people you see skiing today that look like professionals are the ones that started skiing when they were around five years old. Some people learn to ski at a very young age simply because they were just born into a family of skiers, and their parents wanted to get them started right away. There is nothing wrong with teaching your child to ski at a young age because by the time they are adults, they will be masters to the sport. It is good that parents want to take their kids skiing for the first time when they are young so they will not need any help knowing how to perform when they older. If
What type of ski wax will reduce the friction between ski bases and snow the best: rub on, paste, spray on, or hot. Skis slide because when pressure is applied to the snow it creates a thin layer of water in between the ski bases and the snow. Furthermore, skis repel water causing them to slide instead of sticking to the snow. If ski wax is applied by rubbing, pasting, spraying, melting, then melt on wax will reduce the most friction because it coats the skis more evenly, fills in small imperfections and provides a thicker protective barrier.
