The Very Last Journal Entry
I just had an appointment for a philosophy student, probably my first
one this semester. He was writing a paper and it was the exact same
topic that I had had in my philosophy class last year. It was really
nice to know exactly what to tell him since I had been through the
same experience. Being a philosophy major, I know the type of writing
that philosophy teachers like: papers with a very orderly structure
and statements that are backed up heavily. These papers aren't about
fluff and pretty language, but about hardcore facts and
well-thought-out theories. I passed this information onto John and it
was very helpful for him. His paper was already amazing, but just
changing a few sentence to really get his transitions across helped a
lot. I told him to list what he was talking about in his second
paragraph, and though this sounds boring and is something I hate to
do, I knew it would help his grade tremendously.
The student also had a very good philosophy in his paper. The point of
the assignment is to create your own philosophy with supporting
reasons and responses to objections, and I just really liked his view.
After we went through the paper, we just sat and talked for about
fifteen minutes about how it is that he came up with his topic and how
his life affected his choices. I know we aren't supposed to pry into
their personal lives, but we were just talking like good buddies. I
think it helped him a lot because he seemed kind of nervous before the
session, and getting to know me on a more than just superficial level
seemed to make him feel more comfortable. The paper assignment is a
very personal experience, so I think that personal communication was
necessary.
I've also been having more sessions with the Korean students, and I
think that I am getting better at finding stuff to say with them. Its
really interesting to learn about their culture, and I'm feeling less
Journal Entry #1 Wiesel says this because he wants to keep the Holocaust from happening again. He probably meant that it is selfish to keep something to yourself when it is important and you can prevent it from happening. When he was being tortured, the other citizens did nothing to help. Maybe he just wants to make up for what others did not do for him. I agree and disagree with his statement.
to view the topic that he speaks about. It changed my view and opinion on the matter
ingrained beliefs in a few hours, but was able to provide some justification as to why he had lived his life in search of wisdom.
The Last Full Measure is a vividly detailed account of the events that took place in the Civil War after the Battle of Gettysburg. In the novel, the author tells the story of the war after July of 1863 from several points of view. He uses three main characters to depict these points: Ulysses S. Grant, General of the U.S. Army, Robert E. Lee, General of the Confederate Army, and Joshua L. Chamberlain, a simple professor from Maine. The reader can gain a detailed understanding of the war by seeing it through Grant and Lee’s eyes. The reader can experience a more firsthand account of war by seeing it from Chamberlain’s point of view, who is not a professional solder.
David Brody argues that the rise of contractual or collective bargaining relationships during the post WWII era formalized the relationship between employers and unions, but simultaneously began to put a break on shop floor activism. Explain Brody’s argument and, where relevant, incorporate Weber’s theory of bureaucracy.
I had performed extremely well in my calculus 1 class and had over a 100% in the class. I had aced the previous two exams and felt confident about optimization, which the next exam was over. I studied for close to 60 hours over two weeks for the exam and had gone over the previous exams and homework from the section. I ended up getting a 72% on the exam and once I looked over it realized that the problems I had gotten wrong were over minimization and not maximization. After looking over the questions and doing corrections I could not believe I got such easy questions wrong.
The main purpose of this article was to explain the positive correlation that a comprehensive school-counseling program can have on students’ outcomes. The article, “Comprehensive School Counseling in Rhode Island: Access to Services and Student Outcomes” explained the importance for all students to have equal access to a school counselor who can provide counseling interventions for students who are having academic performance and mental health problems. In addition to, explaining the overall benefits and the impact that a comprehensive school-counseling program can have on students’ outcomes (Dimmitt, Wilkerson, & Lapan, 2012). In this article, the authors mentioned that a fully implemented comprehensive school-counseling program is significantly correlated with the improvement of students’ academic outcomes in many aspects. For example, increased on school satisfaction, improved teacher to student relationship, and greater interest on college information from students. Although, there is a positive impact on students’ academic, social, and behavioral outcomes due to the implementation of school counseling programs; there is not enough counseling resources for low socio-economic level students, who often do not have counseling interventions that met their future career needs. Therefore, school counselors have to their best effort with the limited resources, large students caseload, and prioritize crisis interventions over counseling services for students (Dimmitt, et al., 2012).
Many people believe they have to follow a specific way of living or believe they have to follow a specific path, they believe that just because they grew up in a certain environment where everybody around them is doing one thing, then they have to do the same. This is what the characters in the The book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian”, believed in for a long time. The main character felt like this, until he decided to change the course of where his life was going. The book shows the themes of Racism, poverty, identity, and dreams. They have all made a huge impact on the story, and they all lead to a lot
He went on forever it seemed like. It was over an hour that he went on talking.
The following comments are based on actual conversations from students! These comments act as a basis for what describes “dead week.” According to Urban dictionary, “ At any major college or university, the week before finals are administered and most major projects and assignments are due for submission. The late night working and hardcore studying for Finals gives the students a zombie like atmosphere, and causes an eerie silence and many blank, unseeing expressions.”
November 21, 2013, Izzy and I got into a car accident that totaled his car. We walked away from the accident and continued our big at Normandale, it was our last big Phi Theta Kappa event the “Like Jobs: Carnival”. Through the stress and strains of being international honor students and being well...us, we took any pain as part of the job. Soon these pains were getting worse and worse. After a few months of discourse with the insurance companies for some sort of settlement, the other driver had admitted fault at the scene to the officer, we realized we needed to take legal action.
People have had this fascination with technology long before there were any actual texts to write down our history. While the technology that humans had a few thousand years ago were not as advanced as what we have today, they were still toying with the idea of creating machines that would have the capability to make the similar, rational decisions that we do. It is only until the late 19th or early 20th century that the advances in technology have allowed people to put more emphasis on the question of when, because it is only a matter of time, humanoid artificial intelligence will outwardly simulate human emotions closely enough that we have to wonder if they deserve or be accorded the moral status of people.

I find this interesting because mostly what it shown on the news or shared on Facebook is the amount of deaths caused by murder or something else. Not once have I personally seen a news article show up on my Facebook news feed or on the news channel regarding death caused by obesity. He used stories in his speech that included him talking to other people about this issue. I found his material interesting because he talked to your every day average family to show that this is a problem with people that he has personally talked
Why should one write a letter? Now that the Internet exists and in just a few clicks and a "Welcome, You've Got Mail", one could send instant messages, email, or web cam, and in less than 30 seconds one receives a response. A phone call could be made in the time it takes for the writer to get the paper to write the letter, and then brainstorm about what to write, and how to write the letter. One could have picked up a cell phone and dialed five telephone numbers and could have carried at least three efficient conversations. The major reasons for the decline of letter writing include, the decline in handwriting skills in American classrooms, increase access to the worldwide web and all its advancements, and the urge to talk and go has a cell phone attached to every Americans ear. Although, the trend for a faster and more efficient technological age continues to increase letter writing is still a longer lasting conversation, which does not fade away with the hit of a button, or the hang up of a phone line.
