Trying to get out of the winter slump. I decided we would take a vacation in December. The thought of getting away from old man winter had my curiosity going. The mere thought of Florida is sure inviting when the weather here is in the teens and seventy there. Beaches. Amusement parks wow what a great idea. even if it is a twelve-hour drive.
As my eye was slowly pulled apart, I came to the conclusion my children were no longer asleep. The sound of are we, are we, are we really in florida, as my youngest daughter is jumping on the bed to help me awake. The sun was barely beginning to creep into the room. It reminded me of sand in an hourglass just gently moving along. I rolled over to look at my beautiful wife, but wait, where is she? The covers were piled three feet high with an array of pillows on top of everything else, then it moved and spoke. “Be quite” the pile said. Oh no it’s eating my wife, I thought. Then the girls were begging to go to the hot tub,” lease, please, please,” stammered Cassidy. I agreed and we got ready to go for a swim. Here we are in sunny florida getting up at 6:00 a.m. to go swimming after driving fourteen hours in mayhem traffic. We’re as cute as a 1937 chevy roadsters painted plaid with poka-dots. My snow-white legs sticking out of a pair of board shorts with knee-high tube socks, I just was hoping nobody would see us on our way down to the hot tub. When we got to the front door, I had a dreadful thought. Why was no one else in the hot tub when we looked out our window? I just dismissed it as it must just be too early for Floridians.
At last, we’re in Florida! But, before the fun can start, we have to do some other stuff. We have to take my grandfather to our relatives in Miami. So, we now have to drive 4 hours from Orlando to Miami cramped up in the white van.
Langston Hughes uses poetic elements to express the reader his feelings towards America. Langston Hughes is very upset that America is not what it promised to be. Living in America, he never saw America to be the land of the free, what it promised to be. Instead, he saw America to be cruel to him and now wants to change America to be the country of the free he thought it was. He expresses all his emotion about America, in his poem, Let America Be America Again, by using connotative diction, repetition, narrative tone and organization; poetic elements.
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
I woke up to the sound of my mom calling my name. ‘’Just five more minutes,’’ I said as I pulled the covers over my head. ‘’We’re going to Yosemite.’’ my mom said. My mom finally dragged me out of bed. I trudged into the bathroom and then brushed my teeth and got dressed. ‘’Well look who got up.’’ my grandma yelled. My sister ruffled my hair. ‘’Hey bro.’’ my sister said sitting down for breakfast. I went and joined her. “Do you want cereal or french toast?” asked my grandma. “I’ll have cereal please.” I said. We all ate breakfast and packed some backpacks with waters and got on the road by 8:30. My sister sang a song I didn’t recognize. “What song is that?” I asked. “Heart of gold” she replied. “Never heard of it” I said. We pulled up to the
I have taken many vacations over the years I have been to Illinois, Kentucky, Texas, and I have also gone to Florida many times. The most recent vacation was when I went to Florida for my senior spring break, with my grandma Linda. We drove all the way there and all the way back, while we were in Florida we stayed with my aunt Fran’s house in Bonita Springs.
Have you been to the sunshine state? I have. Amusement parks, sandy beaches, shops, and more make Florida an awesome trip destination that everyone can enjoy. It all started with the sound of my alarm at 3:00 am, I thought it was too early, but later on I found out it was well worth it. My mom soon threw my bedroom door open, “We need to leave in 15 minutes for the airport” I quickly got ready in what little time I could, grabbed my suitcase and hopped in my dad's car.
Have you ever been on a vacation? To me a vacation is a time to be with friends or family. When I think of vacations, I think of packing, the flight or drive, and relaxation. Not only is it very exciting to go on a vacation, but you get closer to the people that go with you.
The trip to Florida over Christmas break was unlike any other. Yes, most people would jump at the opportunity to go to Florida after a winter like we had up to that point. So, let me give you some background on why the trip. Back in July my mother in-law had an epileptic seizure that rendered her in a coma, she has not awoken from and the doctors are pushing to let her go. She has been moved 3 hours from my brother in-laws house to Georgia. Thanks to our lovely health care system, it was the only place available that could take care of her needs. Perfect timing kids are out of school and it is a good time to travel so you would think. I have been out of work
What better way to connect and create lasting memories than to pack your bags, take the family with you and escape for a while to some interesting country. If you desire to escape the bleakness of winter and have an awesome experience of a non-stop flow of sunshine and fun then, the best destinations to visit is Florida.
The warm sun emerged over the top of the hill. Its warm rays stretched across the field, drying the dew. As if on cue, the rooster roared out a loud “COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOO!” summoning Farmer Joe out bed. He stumbled through the screen door in dusty work boots, boxers, and white tank. His long hair was disheveled and as he slumped into the rickety, porch rocking chair, he guzzled down 3 beers in a matter of seconds. Farmer Joe closed his eyes and let the warm sunrays wash over his skin, hoping it would subdue his hangover. As he was starting to drift back into dreamland, his wife, Myrna, came busting through the screen door. With a screeching “YEEEHAWWW” she karate kicked the door open, yielded a rifle up to her shoulder, and fired a round into the open yard. Myrna was dressed in some cutoff jean shorts, the left side longer than the right, a pink camo sleeveless shirt, and work boots. She had an athletic build and stood on the porch with a lit
I was to leave to the Dominican Republic at 10p.m. on a Thursday night. My flight was with Tower Air and it was leaving John F. Kennedy airport. I had to be there three hours before departure and I was I was there at 7p.m. It felt like they longest wait of my life. At 9:30p.m,they announced that we would not be leaving on time because the plane had technical difficulties. Our flight would now leave at 12p.m. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. It was a nightmare. They had already changed my flight like five times before. I was leaving one day, then I was leaving the next and so on. Then they wait for the last minute and the food shop had closed, so there is about a good 200 or so people without food and all upset cursing up a storm. To top it all off, half of the people there were teenagers going to the Dominican Republic to play baseball. Can you imagine? A hundred something kids hungry and sleepy screaming their lungs out.
Thanksgiving with my family is a four day event, it is big but still simple all in one. Our Thanksgiving should be recorded and played right after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. It takes a compobus amount of effort and time to put together a good African american thanksgiving. First you have to think about the people you are going to invite, of course you invite the immediate family, then you have to think about the family friends that you want to invite. Because you bring invite all of them, then we would have a house full. Once you get your invitation list right, you have to start thinking about what type of food you are going to make. However, you have to take into consideration of the food allergies and preferences that people have. Once
I’m on a muddy, yellow bus coming back from camp. I'm twelve and so are you. Prior to leaving for camp, I had imagined it would be just me and three, maybe four, other boys that I hadn't met yet, running around all summer, getting ourselves into trouble. Playing games and just enjoying our summer. You know, typical boy stuff. Ultimately it ended up being me and this one girl. That's you. As long as we are still on the bus its like we are still at camp. Once we reach the pickup point where our parents would be waiting for us camp will be over.
The dark, black sky was covered with a million bright shining stars. The moon shimmered above a small town in the suburbs of London. The gentle wind swept past the bare trees and danced with the leaves below it, creating a colourful array of orange, yellow, red and brown. Across the street, a light was on in a small house where a tall, dark haired woman stood, talking to her two children Nicola and Erin. While she was tucking them in Erin asked, “Mummy, will you tell us a story please?” “I’m sorry but its time to go to sleep now,” she said. “Please mummy,” begged Nicola “Okay but only one story,” she replied “This story is about how I got lost when I was a young girl and how I met an incredible man. It all began when…”
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
