Video Game Violence
Video game violence has been a long going controversy. Video games have not been around all that long, “first introduced in the 1970s” (Cesarone, Feb. ‘95), and started out as being centered towards the Children. Well anybody that has grown up with games are now older and more mature and demand more from their gaming experience, and so the creation of new types and styles of games have evolved to suit them. I have grown up with games, and am at the age where ‘kids games’ just don’t do it for me anymore. The games that I thought were enjoyable when I was a kid are now very boring. I need a more complex game with many variables to consider, and I am mature enough to handle violence, and what is more complex than a war game? This is where the controversy comes into play. The games that are now being made for the older generation (those that are 17 and older) are also being played by the younger generation (those younger than 17), which is not the intention of the industry. These games tend to be more violent and mature, since they are intended for a more mature audience that can handle the violence without taking it seriously. While entertaining to the older generation, people see them as desensitizing the younger generation, and actually harming them emotionally, and so wish to get rid of them completely.
Violent video games should not be gotten rid of, and I will tell you why. First I will give you the reasons why video games should not be violent, and controversial. Then the safety issues that are in place to protect the kids from getting, and playing these games. And finally why they should not be gotten rid of, followed by a concluding paragraph.

...ds that actually do play these games go out and do what they did in a game. Not many. I know I haven’t done anything in real life that I have done in a game, or seen in a movie. Most are intelligent enough to know what is on the screen is not real, and if they can’t make that realization, they shouldn’t be able to play them. They shouldn’t play them anyways since they are marketed for older folks. If these games are abolished, I know of plenty of adults that would be very bored, and even out of work, since more than half of their consumers are no longer satisfied.

Heroes, a concept that was important to Romans, were supposed to be pious, fate-followers, and have good morals when it comes to those that they are supposed to be taking care of. Aeneas knows, after the message from Jove, that it is no longer morally right or pious to stay in Carthage just because of his affair with Dido and because he enjoys the ‘sweet’ land of the city. On leaving Carthage, Aeneas has put everyone above himself, and this can further be seen in Book VI, when Aeneas is in the Underworld and is hurt by the fact that Dido has passed because of him, and that she no longer cares about him (Aeneid, VI. 455-460). Aeneas even tries to explain to Dido (and the readers) that he did not leave Carthage under his own self, that he only did so because the gods said that he had to . As a Hero, Aeneas does not act exactly as he wants to; as a Hero, Aeneas does all that the gods tell him to, in order to achieve the greater good, in this case: giving Ascanius his fated future
Because I have grown disenchanted with the program of Alcoholics Anonymous and have been searching for a program in which I can participate without compromising my personal philosophies of recovery, I plan to seek out more meetings of Buddhist recovery. I appreciate the meditation portion of the meeting as it is more and more difficult to find time to experience the quiet in life and focus on one’s thoughts and behaviors. I also value the principles of non-harming, compassion and interdependence. I genuinely enjoyed attended Buddhist Recovery and would recommend it to anyone seeking an alternative process of recovery.
People have always been looking for a reason why horrible things happen. The media is quick to blame video games as the target and cause of many shootings that have occurred, ever since Columbine and Quake. People have been blaming video games for violence for years now, ever since violent video games have been made. News reports blame video games more and more for each shooting, telling the public how this person played video games for x amount of hours a day, and that video games caused him or her to shoot people, and how video games encourage and reward violence. Anti-video game lobbyists have been campaigning to have violence removed from video games, citing resources that they themselves have created as reasons for such, poorly done studies where they confirm that kids are more aggressive through how much hot sauce they put on someone’s fries. While unbiased studies of video games and their links to violence are hard to come by, recent research has shown that video games do not in fact have a casual link to violence, and may even have the opposite effect. Violent video games have nearly no link to violence in teens or adults.
From the beginnings of the industry, violence in video games has been an issue of discussion. From the pixilated weaponry in 'Space Invaders' to the myriad of weapons in 'Unreal Tournament 2003,' games have evolved over the years. Newer games are more real. Their environments are more immersive. Small details such as rain drops or a falling corpse are now realistically detailed in the games we play. Because of this, some people believe that this level of realism is desensitizing our kids and making them violent. Fueled by the school shootings of a few years ago, these people are calling for the censorship of video games and regulation of the industry by the government. Based on bad research and faulty logic, these people seek to squash the freedoms of adults because of a perceived danger to children. Freedom of speech, in the form of video games, should be preserved because it does not harm our children and it furthers freedom.
By mentioning the downfall of his people during the Trojan War and foreshadowing his destiny by "Sparing the conquered" Trojans and "battle down the proud" Greeks, can be looked upon as a reinforcement of his duties not only to his dead father and family, but to the entire Trojan population. To let another character found and rule Rome would just prove the failure of his people again, as shown through the Trojan war. Aeneas feels great pride and energy regarding his role in history and is anxious to continue on his journey. The gods are trying to convince Aeneas to value duty to his city and family, a kind of affiliation or relation by virtue of descent as-if from a parent, above duty to a lover by mere affiliation, or arbitrary association. This perspective on an appeal to authority still hinges on a relationship between Aeneas' desire for affiliation and public authority as the authority of filial priority. We learn early on in this epic that Aeneas is a very important character because of his divine parentage. After all, his mother is the Goddess Venus and his father's brother was the King of Troy. His mother is more concerned with his destiny than with his happiness. She makes Dido fall in love with Aeneas and then he falls in love with the Carthaginian queen in return. Despite the fact that he is happy, his mother is one of the gods working to make him fulfill his destiny. This "destiny" is truly revealed to Aeneas in the underworld when he encounters a few fellow Trojan comrades.
The Aeneid is an excellent example of the pressure of change since it exhibits a multitude of different changes; from location changes, Troy to Lavinia, to personal characteristic changes in Aeneas. After being out-witted by the Greeks and their city, Ilium, destroyed; the Trojans are forced to change to ensure the survival of their civilization and culture, for that they turn to Aeneas. Aeneas is tasked by, his father, Ascanuis, and his mother, Venus; to travel across the Mediterranean Sea to the land of Italy, where he is to found their new home. Initially, Aeneas is hesitant and shows disdain for the role the Fate has found him, he yells out to the heavens, “tell me why the Queen of Heaven was so aggrieved, her godhead so offended, that she forced a man of faultless devotion to endure so much hardship” (Aen. 1.12-15). This outrage, despite absolute belief in the Gods and undying patriotism, is in direct contrast to pride and sacrifice
Aeneas sees the destruction of his city through the work of the gods. This tangible sign teaches Aeneas to leave Troy and start the journey to found Rome. Aeneas would stay and continue to fight for Troy, but the sign furthers the pursuit of his mission. His actions become impersonal toward his own family members when he loses his wife, Creusa. Aeneas never looks back or gives a second thought to his family around him until he stops at the funeral mound (2.960-968). Aeneas focuses too much on leaving Rome and his mission, until he returns to his house where Creusa’s ghost confronts him with the reminder of his mission (2.985-1040). His wife reminds him of what is important—his mission and Rome—so Aeneas returns to the funeral mound and turns toward the future. Peer pressure is very common among young adults. I went through peer pressure and have learned my lesson. I hate to see others going through with it. The pressure on young people to conform to the standards of their peers is huge. The people around you influence your life. You learn from them and they learn from you. Peers can have a positive influence on you, like teaching you an easier solution to a math problem. Or they could have a negative influence on you, like telling you to ditch math class with them. Violent video games have become more realistic every year. Children spend about 40 hours seated in front of a screen killing cartoon characters. It has been debated whether minors under the age of 18 should play violent video games that contain physical harm, killing, and sexual assault. In the contrary, people say video games increases the capacity of learning of children, but violent video games cause great damages. Although there are an increase learning skills playing video games, violent video games should be prohibited to minors because it changes an individual behavior, physical, and brain.
Parents should not allow their children to play violent video games because they are at risk of becoming desensitized. Parents often let their kids play violent video games so parents do not have to watch over their kids. Why shouldn’t parents let their kids play violent video games? Parents should not let their kids play violent video games because they will be influenced to make the decision to hurt other people. According to Dr. Phil (renowned psychologist), kids don’t think they are actually killing people, usually when they are shooting someone in the game, they are getting bonus points. Kids are also becoming desensitized by all of the violence. Parents, I just want you to know that, if you are allowing your kids to play these horrific games, then you need to keep a close eye on your kids as they grow up, because you never know if they are going to grow up with such barbaric behavior and then apply it to another human being. Obviously, I do not appreciate the fact that parents allow their kids to play violent video games at such a young age. Over the years gaming has become a widely popular aspect of our culture. Video games are for all age’s yes us adults love to play them to. Playing video games are fun but not a lot of people realize the impact video games can have on the body physically and mentally.
