In general, computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions. Computers can be found in various forms such as personal computers, calculators and mobile phones. They are utilised in places like houses, offices, and schools. The invention of computer symbolises the advancement of technology in mankind. Furthermore, computer has made our life easier. We would not have achieved what we have today if computer was not invented. It is difficult to identify which was the first computer invented. This is because the term computer has been subject to varying interpretations over time. The meaning of computer changes as time passes by, thus making it difficult to interpret the accurate meaning. Originally, computer is referred to a person who performed numerical calculations with the aid of a mechanical calculating device. Nowadays, many people misinterpret the meaning of computer to be the personal computer, also known as PC, which consists of a keyboard, mouse, monitor and central processing unit, also known as CPU. The invention of computer has brought us a lot of benefits. Computer has improved the communication sector. In ancient times, communication was done using smoke signals or drum signals. Then, letters were used to communicate with each other. With the existence of computer, we communicate through electronic mails, also known as E-mail, and instant messaging computer program in a personal computer. We can even talk or send Short Message Service, also known as SMS, to our friends around the world using a mobile phone. Using these ways of communication, we are able to pass our message quickly and efficiently. In addition, we need not worry that our letters will get lost or have to wait for long f... ... middle of paper ... ...r children. Although we can use computer to release our stress by playing games, some people will get addicted in the progress. Instead of releasing stress, they will keep playing computer games without even bothering to bath, sleep or eat! If this continues for a long time, they might have serious health or mental problems. In order to prevent this incident from happening, parents should get extra cautious when they found their children playing computer games for long periods frequently. In conclusion, the invention of computer has brought us benefits and detriments. Despite the fact that it brought us detriments, computer is an invention that everyone should be using. Furthermore, these can be overcome by ensuring we or our children do not spend too much time at the computer. It is undeniable that computer has strongly affected our daily lives with its usage.
In 1939 the very first computer was created by Professor John Vincent Atanasoff and Cliff Berry. It was not the type of computer we are used to though, that type of computer didn’t make an appearance until 1982(Timeline of computer history, 2001). After the first computer was created communication took off like a rocket.
There are many different beginnings to the origins of computers. Their origins could be dated back more than two thousand years ago, depending on what a person means when they ask where the first computer came from. Most primitive computers were created for the purpose of running simple programs at best. (Daves Old Computers) However, the first ‘digital’ computer was created for the purposes of binary arithmetic, otherwise known as simple math. It was also created for regenerative memory, parallel processing, and separation of memory and computing functions. Built by John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford Berry during 1937-1942, it was dubbed the Atanasoff Berry Computer (ABC).
A computer is a device that can be programmed to perform a specific operation. Computers take input from human operators and process it into something the user can see on an output device (Computer, 2012).
A man wakes up in the morning to the sound of his digital alarm clock and immediately checks his e-mail. He turns on the television, which has a V-chip to keep his children from watching what may be violent. He gets dressed, gets in his car, and drives to work where he works as the network administrator at a local steel company. It is amazing all of the things this man uses in the morning alone that would not be possible if it were not for computer technology. From his alarm clock to his e-mail even to the job that pays his bills it has all been made possible by computer related technologies. This is the same situation with many people in American society today. Everything has to do with computers. The very first things that we consider "computers" were nothing more than adding machines. "Perhaps the first example of this is the abacus, known in the Orient at least as early as 600 B.C."(Nunz 517). The abacus consists of a frame with rods that hold beads which depending on their position represent a different number. It is usually made of wood and the rods that were thought to one time have been made of bamboo. Users can add, subtract, multiply, and divide just like modern calculator (Fernandes). It all started with calculating machines and has advanced to the fast microprocessors we have today. People use computers everyday in many forms from the computer that's in a car to a home PC. Computers have changed everyday life in the way society drives, communicates, and relaxes. Society has changed because of computer technology and it will probably never go back. One thing that is very important to most people, especially in this area, which in most cases involves a computer, is the car. This is due mostly to the lack of effective public transportation in the area. Cars get people where they need to go from the mall to work and back home again. For those fortunate enough to have year 2000 model cars there are some pretty amazing almost futuristic features. One of these is "adaptive cruise control" which monitors the car in front of the driver and brakes accordingly.
From classroom activities to space flight and everything in between, computers are a vital part of daily life. Everything we do and every aspect of our life is affected by modern technology like the computers. Computers let us dissect any sort of data. Computers makes us reflect, hence we develop. Because of computers and the Internet, we can talk with individuals from diverse nations, and even see them via webcam. Computers have their weaknesses like they have a negative effect on individuals' health. One of the risky parts of any machine is the screen. Computers make individuals dependent. Computers are hampering individuals' improvement in regular life. We don't read printed books any longer, since we can listen and read on the web. We invest more of a chance talking online than talking face to face. Overuse of machines has numerous negative impacts, for example, creating physical/behavioral sicknesses, harming family connections and diminishing scholarly study.
The first computer ever created was developed by John W. Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert, two very smart individuals who at the time assisted to the University of Pennsylvania. The name given to this first computer was ENIAC, which stands for Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator. As its name suggested this device was only capable of preforming numerical operations, however, it was ahead of its time. The machine was fairly big; the equipment used to keep it cool and its vacuum tubes (used to amplify electric signals) took up to 1800 square feet of space. The ENIAC was not really programmable, but it was considered one of the first high-speed computers to ever be created.” ENIAC is generally acknowledged to be the first successful high-speed electronic digital computer (EDC) and was
Computer is an advanced electronic device that takes raw data as input from the user and processes these data
Sometime in the early 1900s a German engineer named Konrad Zuse invented the first computer called the Z3. It was a functional program- controlled computer. He was also a computer pioneer. During this time there was a series of events recorded that entailed the beginning stages of computer use. Over time the development became greater.
Computers help out hospitals and pharmacies very much. Pharmacists use computers to keep a record of medications and the dosage to give to each patient. Most computers in hospitals are used to keep track of patients and their status. Computers also keep track of equipment placement and their status as well. Scientists depend on computers to help find cures for cancer, STDs, and other diseases. Computer software helps doctors’ research different symptoms, cures and treatments for different diseases. Cures for a lot of diseases would not have been found without the help of computers.
Computers have changed the way that the world works in many different ways. Some of these changes are positive and some of these changes have had negative effects on our lives. From an industrial standpoint most of these changes have been helpful to businesses and the economy. In the medical field computers have had an impact in many different areas, ranging from the way appointments are made to the carrying out of everyday tasks.
Modern living depends a lot on computers. Computers are already common and necessary as telephones. Society has been profoundly changed. We use the computer in almost all our daily tasks, such as communication, ticket reservation, information and entertainment. As long as we do not let it run our lives the computer serves us well. They are nothing but dumb slaves which do exactly what we tell them to do. Thus, they should remain as such, servants to our needs. At their best, computers have given more good and bad effects on today's society. The usefulness of computers is like a knife: you can use a knife for cooking, but we may kill a human if we do not use it properly.
The statement, which says, “depending on computer” has been a controversial issue since it was invented. Some people believe that computer has unpleasant effects on people’s lives, such as destroying social communication, affecting people’s health, and limiting their creativity. On other hand, some people think that computer has presented a lot of benefits on people’s lives. For instance, it has developed education, increased knowledge about the universe, and reduced time working. In my opinion, I believe strongly that a positive side has a right presenting because computer has provided a lot of benefits on our life such as enhancing many ways to develop education, contributing to discover and determine different planets, and making life easier.
A computer is an electronic machine which can accept data in a certain form, process it, and give the results of the processing in a specified format as information. First, data is fed into the computer’s memory. Then, the computer performs a set of instructions and processes the data. Finally, we can see the results on the screen or in printed form
The late 20th century has successfully witnessed the boom of sophisticated technology, which gave birth to a wide range of technological outcomes, including computer technology. Computer technology, that is a skill to manage information, communicate and a kind of entertainment media, has become an important part in modern life at work, in recreation and social networking. Whether computer technology is better or not is a complicated issue. There are different arguments that need to be examined. Most people support that computer technology is better for individual lifestyles. It improves quality of working and study, provides a wide range of entertainment and is a wonderful tool of communication. On the other hand, others believe that computer
