The use of performance enhancing drugs has become more and more common due to the pressure to win. The majority of serious athletes know the competitive urge to be victorious can be intense and often rely on performance enhancing drugs to succeed. There are many types of performance enhancing drugs out there such as anabolic steroids, androstenedione, gonadotropin, and erythoropoietin. Performance enhancing drugs are tempting to athletes because it give athletes a forceful feelings and it helps athletes recuperate from a difficult workout extra fast by diminishing the muscle loss that happens during the workout. This allows athletes to exercises faster and often without over working their body. The benefits of these performance-enhancing drugs aren’t worth it since there are more cons than pro because it can be dangerous to the human body and nobody wants to be known as a cheater. Athletes know the side effects but they ignore it due to the desire to succeed. “In response to the increased international awareness of the use of illegal PEDs, and the individual sporting associations’ apparent inability to successfully level the playing field, national governments have taken notice, and, in some cases, have instituted comprehensive national drug testing legislation for professional sport” according to "Safe At Home? Assessing U.S. Efforts To Protect Youths From The Effects Of Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports." Performance enhancing drugs should be excluded from sports because it is not fair to athletes that aren’t using it and drugging can be very harmful to the body and it can even lead to death if use too frequently. “For strength and power, the best-known drugs are probably those in the vast fami... ... middle of paper ... ... from them” according to the article "Judgments Of The Fairness Of Using Performance Enhancing Drugs." Fans will not be able to see their favorite players play if the athlete gets caught for using performance-enhancing drugs. It is also very disappointing to the fan especially when they look up to them. To sum it up, taking performance-enhancing drugs is really not worth it. The cons outweigh the pros. It is not fair to be superior to other competitors because of doping. Cheating is never the answer and that is not fair for the other athletes that do not take performance-enhancing drugs. The side effects can be harmful to the human body and it can eventually lead to death. Not taking performance-enhancing drugs will reduce the chances for them to get sick. Instead of taking the easy route to succeed, play fair by not using performance-enhancing drugs.
Sports players are starting to resort to different ways to help them play better or to get stronger. And one of the big ways right now is the use of PEDs. They use them because they are weaker then there opponents. But even though they make you stronger and gives you an edge over on everyone else that is not using them they ruin lives and make people think of you differently as a person. Elite athletes use them to help them win and or play better, example Lance Armstrong who is a seven time Tour de France winner, who was caught “doping” so that he was stronger and had more stamina then his other opponents. Then Alex Rodriguez claimed that he used steroids to help recover from his hip surgery. But when really it was helping him continue to smash the ball even when he was trying to recover from his injury, but he continued to use them after he was better. And the clinic he and twenty seven other professional baseball players were getting them from. When he and Lance were caught they still denied it. They lost a lot of respect in the community because there great performances weren’t really there raw skills and years of training. "A potent cocktail of sophisticated PEDs stacked together to delive...
Performance enhancing drugs are not fair in sports. First off, they are a form of cheating. Most athletes work in the weight room and sacrifice their time. They work hard to use their natural talents and abilities, PED’s give the players an undeserved and unfair edge over his or her peers. “It is not fair to those that are naturally talented or work hard to remain in shape for another to come in and take the spotlight because they have decided to take the easy route” says a individual from Debate.Org. Along with giving the player a trump card, so to speak, it gives the whole team an advantage. Therefore, the whole team or organization is now cheating! “Hard workouts can not have the same benefits as PED’s, this makes the users have an advantage.”
...hese drugs to be better players in the Major Leagues and it's likely because of that they are not getting the votes to get into the Hall of Fame and will only be remembered for cheating, not for their accomplishments. Cal Ripken Jr., has shown us that you do not need drugs to be an everyday player in the Majors and be a Hall of Famer. Major League Baseball is cracking down on performance enhancing drug use as the years go on with harsher punishments for offenders of the drug laws. This is the first time the MLB has added a life-time ban for players who continue to use steroids after being caught. Why take the chance to use these performance enhancing drugs if it only ends in failure? Neither heaven nor hell would question my word that cheaters never win, and if you use performance enhancing drugs to be better at anything you will forever be labeled a cheater.
Abstract: Since the beginning of sports competition, athletes have always looked for some kind of an edge over their competitors. They will do whatever it takes to be one of the elite and that includes injecting supplements into their bodies to make them bigger, stronger, and faster. Steroid use is probably one of the most common drug misuses in sports competition. Athletes found that with anabolic steroids one could become a better athlete twice as fast. Not until 1975 was the drug first banned from Olympic competition because of the health risks it produced. Shortly thereafter, the rest of the sports world did not allow anabolic steroids as well. With the use of steroids no longer permitted athletes began to look for other alternatives. On the rise is two substances called creatine and androstenedione, both of which are sold over the counter. These two performance enhancers have only had minimal testing done on them, excluding the long-term effects, simply because they haven't been around long enough. Creatine and androstenedione have been said to produce results like steroids without the side effects. The truth is they do produce side effects and irregular muscle growth. By banning the use of performance enhancing drugs, just like steroids, sports competition will have a much healthier and fairer environment to participate in.
Performance Enhancing Drug should not be allowed in any kind of sports. They are not good for the body; in baseball steroids help the players to hit the ball farther steroids is giving, athletes a better advantage allowing them to cheat. Not only it would affect the person using the drug people that look up to the athlete might do the same just to be great like their idle .To the other player in the sport or contest like lifting not taking the enhancing drug not fair to them .A steroid is a type of organic compound that help performance enhancing in sports or any kind of event which contains chain of carbon and hydrogen atoms called an alkyl group. These can be dangerous to the liver and to cholesterol levels when taken at high does. Inject able steroids contain an acidic chain of carbon and hydrogen called an ester that is slightly less toxic to the liver. In the 1860s, a group of swimmers in Amsterdam were charged with taking drugs to speed up their races. For the next 80 years or so, athletes who wanted to cheat focused mostly on stimulants to speed themselves up. The isolation of general steroids can be traced back to 1931, when Adolf Butenandt, a chemist in Marburg, purified 15 milligrams of the male hormone androstenone from tens of thousands of liters of urine.
In sports many people think it is ok to use Performance Enhance Drugs to be the best player of all time.Performance Enhance Drugs are substances used to improve any form of activity performance in humans. For example, Bruce Irvin the defensive end with the seattle seahawks, and Daryl Washington the linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals. It is not just football players , baseball players also like, Cody Stanley from the St. Louis Cardinals. Many people use them, but the end up getting caught and suspended from playing. You are basically cheating your way to fame.People should not use drugs in a sport to become better because,These drugs have an effect on having a long term of health, could lead to overdose, and if you get caught you most
Every athlete dreams of becoming the best player in their sport. For most athletes, this dream was created in their childhood watching their favorite player perform at great levels to achieve success. Most athletes will stop at anything to achieve success, even if that means breaking the rules. An athlete whether the biggest, fastest, or strongest, will always look for something that will give them and extra edge over everybody else, even if that means performance enhancing drugs. With new records being broken day by day, I believe performance-enhancing drugs should be legal in all professional sports.
It is unfair and unethical for athletes to obtain advantages from drugs. The issue has gained prominence in the last 10 years as a result of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO) investigation in 2003, tell-all by former professional athletes and the Mitchell investigation into drugs in professional baseball. Performance enhancing drugs and steroids help athlete’s performance, such as improves batting speed, throwing and running ability. Athletes become stronger and able to train and play for longer period of time. As Kenny Rogers (baseball player) suggested, basically steroids can jump you a level or two. The average player can become a star, and the star player can become a superstar (Ethics & Behavior). This is not fair for the players
Every athlete that uses these types of drugs are trying to increase their athletic ability and make themselves faster, stronger, and more durable. Athletes who don’t use them are relying on their hard work and dedication, which is better for their health and their self-esteem. Sadly, those athletes are often beaten by those who are artificially improving their athletic ability. Many of today’s successful athletes take steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, and not only do they do well, but they beat most other athletes who don’t use them. These drugs are constantly making competitive sports more unfair and are making it less likely for people who don’t use steroids to succeed in athletics. Not only does that affect the athletes, but it effects the sport as a whole. It has a negative effect on professional sports and that effect is only going to get worse if performance enhancing drugs are not
Using performance enhancing drugs has always been a practice, basically ever since sports began. They were first used in 776 B.C in the original Greek olympics. Consequences for using performance enhancing drugs started in 1968. A year before this there was a commission put together to fight against doping. Many people in the past have been disqualified from sports and competitions for doping. People have also had to serve jail time and have been stripped of their Olympic medals for doing this! There has been stripping of medals from sport categories like, athletics and weightlifting. In the past, whole team’s has even be disqualified from playing in Olympic Games just for one player testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. Today, consequences for doping are simple but stringent. They
An athlete who chooses to take performance enhancing drugs may doubt his own abilities. The pressure on athletes to win games or perform at a certain level can be over whelming. Fans, family, friends, owners
This is because if the athletes take the performance enhancing drugs, it makes it unfair for the other competitors, as they do not have the same performance advantages as the drug fuelled athletes and is basically cheating.According to David Fairchild, “the use of performance enhancers is cheating because it violates constitutive rules of the activity. Since such use is cheating, it is wrong and we should expect the disqualification of competitors who are caught doping. This conclusion is established through a simple and straightforward argument. Cheating is the deliberate, knowing, and voluntary violation of certain constitutive rules in order to gain a competitive advantage. Since the violation is knowing, the attempt to gain an advantage is illegitimate and unethical, and the advantage sought is thus unfair. The knowing and voluntary use of proscribed substances is an attempt to gain such an unfair advantage. Some specified performance enhancers, anabolic steroids for example, are listed as proscribed substances in certain sports. The deliberate use of steroids is thus an illegitimate attempt to gain an unfair advantage. We conclude that their use is cheating." (David Fairchild (2008) Do Athletes Gain an Unfair Advantage by Using Performance Enhancing Drugs? Available at: https://sportsanddrugs.procon.org/view.answers.php?questionID=001236). Another reason is that it
Sport events are usually for enjoyment and competition, and usually aims to improve; but what is the difference between increasing skill and performance in training, and taking drugs? Any competition can be unfair. Whether it is for an athlete using the advantage of performance enhancing drugs, or an athlete that is constantly training with a coach or even training in the gym for many days straight. We, the sports fans, don’t want to continue paying a high amount of money to witness our favorite professional athlete complete the same task over and over again. We want to watch these athletes succeed and watch them complete these tasks while they're succeeding and achieving what has not been achieved before.
First, when athletes cheat, they are not pushing themselves to achieve success. Cheating also affects the culprit physically, mentally, and emotionally. Doctor Yesalis, a prominent Professor of Health at Pennsylvania State University, states, "You do not need drugs to have a sense of fulfillment, to feel that you've left it all on the field," Yesalis says. "[Drugs have] taken something that God has given us—love of game and sport—and perverted us" (par. 3). Allowing drugs in sports will not prove who is better at the sport we will just see who is the biggest drug user. This is a great integrity check for the individual because it proves who is true to their profession. This also tests their intestinal fortitude to see if they will be man or women enough to do the correct thing.
Many people believe that drug use in professional athletics is not a serious problem, however it is more widespread and serious than people think. In professional athletics the use of drugs is looked upon as somewhat of a serious problem, but is also very discrete and low key. Every once in a while one might see a prominent figure in a certain sport being reprimanded for the use of some outlawed drug, however this is just one of the many who happened to get caught. Athletes today seem to find no moral problem with using performance-enhancing drugs, or in other words cheating. Also many of them feel that because they are "stars" there should be no repercussions for their illegal activity.
