Falls Church High School is a diverse setting for implementing technology in the classroom. Falls Church has attracted many immigrants from around the Northern Virginia area. Due to a variety of reasons, many immigrants find that the area surrounding Falls Church High School meets their familial needs including lower-income housing, a large, established minority community, and easily accessed public transportation, which means that their children are likely to attend Falls Church High School. Because of this, Falls Church has a large population of students who have limited skills in the English language and have free or reduced lunches. Demographically, Falls Church has over 30% Hispanic students, and white students are not the majority at Falls Church, making it a unique school in Fairfax County. The school now has over 50% free and reduced lunch students, and this number may be even higher because many families are failing to report the need for government assistance. Because of these unique demographics, Falls Church High School teachers are presented with a challenging teaching situation.
Students often find it difficult to communicate with their teachers and have trouble picturing their future beyond a couple of years. Many students do not come from families with education beyond high school and, in a number of situations, schooling ended for their parents before high school. Because of this, students do not picture the importance of education and are more focused on working for their own personal gain or to support their families. A large percentage of the students at Falls Church drop out of school before graduation because they perceive that their current monetary gain will be enough to support their future. S...

...gories failed to make this connection. These results tell me that the students who completed the project and actually participated responsibly were able to master the basic information regarding the Byzantine Empire while both groups struggled regarding higher level thinking questions that required an understanding of conceptual ideas regarding the Byzantine Empire and its affect on Russia.
Students were able to positively and effectively learn the information of the Byzantine Empire as long as they stayed motivated and engaged in the activities in the Unit. The overarching project on the Byzantine Empire does not effectively teach students analysis information but does give students the basic information needed for the SOL. There is some obvious tweaking to the unit that is necessary b ut it does provide a solid foundation upon which to build a better unit.
Every single individual has once heard the words “get good grades, go to a good college and graduate, in order to get a good job and succeed in life.” However, no one can really assure that a student with a degree is going to have a better future than those who do not attend college. Lawrence B. Schlack, a retired superintendent, asserts in his article “Not Going to College is a Viable Option” that college is not the only place to go after graduating from high school. By using different kinds of persuasive techniques the author effectively supports his claim and makes the article an understandable and important tool for both parents and students who believe that college is their mandatory option after high school.
Did Justinian impact life as we know it because he is such a great ruler, or is he just a follower who keeps trying to hold on to the loose threads of a fallen empire? Some might say that without Justinian, humanity is a step further back. Others may argue evermore that Justinian is a two-faced liar who you cannot trust (Doc. 2). Contrary to many beliefs, Justinian creates a new Byzantine Empire after the fall of Rome that is influential to many different cultures, more advanced and educated than Rome, and more economically thriving than the Roman Empire.
In conclusion, the Byzantine Empire vastly shaped how the contemporary world turned out to be with its religion, engineering, and ideas about law. With this is mind, we, as society as a whole, are creating a foundation for captivating innovations and scientific discoveries in the subject of technology for practical purposes, along with the study of essential nature of knowledge, reality, human behavior and purpose, and existence that the human species will regard and acknowledge collectively in the period of time to
The topic of this research paper is about Epicurus and how he played a role in Ancient Greece. This assignment had to be done individually. In this research paper I had to do many things. I first had to get sources of my philosopher. I had to obtain two physical sources and a minimum of one internet source. Then when I had my sources I had to write a 2-3 page research paper on philosophy and the role that it played in Ancient Greece pertaining to the value of individuals and the role government should play in society. This took two days for research and a week to type the essay. The critical thinking skills I learned was purpose, question, information, inference, concepts, assumptions, implications, and point of view. I like information the most because in any kind of issue, you have to use information because without information you cannot prove your point, you have to need evidence to support your claim.
In the second part of this paper, we will explain further about the social of the Byzantine Empire. It’s included different level of rank and status, military enforcement and also their administration. First part is about the social classes. Byzantine Empire society is based on hierarchy status, which is people lived at different level of rank that shown how powerful they are and the poorer. Moreover, these social classes had been divided into four levels. The top call is owned by Emperor or known as ‘by the Grace of God’ which is included all their family members, relatives and court. The Emperor is the one who has an absolute power in choosing their replacement, neither his own son, nor a trusted assistance (adviser). As an Emperor, they play a huge role in every aspect of government administration, military and also their life. The Emperor governed the church as well as the state. He was the one who created the law in religious matters and also civil matters.
As the economy evolves and the job market continues to get more competitive, it’s becoming harder to have a successful career without some kind of college degree. This creates a belief in many young students that college actually is a commodity, something they must have in order to have a good life. There’s many different factors that influence this mindset, high schools must push the importance of the student’s willingness and drive to further their education. College isn’t just a gateway to jobs, but it is an opportunity to increase knowledge and stretch and challenge the student which in return makes them a more rounded adult and provides them with skills they might lack prior to
As a native of Miami, Florida, I have witnessed the many cultural changes that have taken place over the years. As an educator teaching within the nation’s fifth largest public school district for the past 25 years, I have had a great amount of exposure to the cultural diversity that makes up the public school, and I have become very familiar with challenges, family issues, and cultural differences that can influence the educational performance of my students. I have developed an understanding that in order to provide the most successful learning environment for culturally diverse student’s, teachers must be able to provide classroom instruction that is free of personal bias and which addresses the diversified cultural learning needs of every student. Too many schools are not set up to give students an education that teaches them to love learning and takes their individual needs into account (Castleman & Littky, 2007).
When the fall of the Roman Empire is discussed in today’s time, usually the focus is on when the Western half of the empire expired in 476 CE, but considering that the eastern half – or the Byzantine Empire as it was called at the time – was still a part of the empire as a whole, the true fall of the Roman Empire was in 1453 CE, which is when the Byzantine Empire was taken over by the Ottoman Turks. The reasoning behind the fall of the Roman Empire is complex; there were numerous issues that assisted in the empire’s demise. There is still much debate over what really caused the fall of the empire (at least the Western half); explanations span from rational claims such as the legalization of Christianity and the abandonment of traditional values, to absurd ones such as Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson’s claim: gay marriage. In this essay, the fall of the Byzantine Empire and five plausible reasons for the fall of the
A college education is an incredibly important achievement that numerous individuals set out to pursue. When choosing a potential employee for a position within their company, employers world-wide favor those that hold a degree. Those that hold a degree display a standard of excellence. Although, countless individuals set out to pursue a degree, many do not stick with it and end up dropping out within their freshman year. There are many reasons that this may happen. Some of the reasons that an innumerable number of students drop out within their first year of college are due to the high cost of tuition and school related expenses, stress, and the lack of self-discipline.
It seems as though the majority of college students these days aren’t looking to further their education because it’s what they really want, they do it to please their parents, to be accepted by society, or because there’s nothing else for them to do (Bird, 372). These expectations have led to students being unhappy and stressed, and have pushed them into a school or a job that they don’t particularly care for.
In conclusion, the Roman and Ottoman Empire had many similarities and differences even though, they were ruled at disparate places and times. They had strong rulers, efficient militaries and bureaucracies. Furthermore, the empires were wide and had a long existence. However, the Roman and the Ottoman Empire differ in government systems, religions, rulers, and weapons. Therefore, having knowledge of the history of empires, how they lived, their religions and government systems is crucial so that we learn from their cultures and achievements, and avoid recurring their

Family issues, poverty, and homelessness cause students to drop out of high school as it impacts education by placing stressful obstacles in children’s learning path. A National study found, “Overall, 22 percent of children who have lived in poverty do not graduate from high school, compared to 6 percent of those who have never been poor” (National Study). Lack of educational success can also contribute to throwing in the towel on school. Some students may not be receiving the additional supports to give them success in school. Imagine coming home on the bus after a ten hour day and having your ninth grader ask for help on their algebra. If you possessed the skills, which you likely do not, you may be too exhausted to help. In addition there is still dinner to cook and other household chores to complete. It is a daunting request that you may not be able to comply with. “Family poverty is associated with a number of adverse conditions — high mobility and homelessness; hunger and food insecurity; parents who are in jail or absent; domestic violence; drug abuse and other problem…” (Shonkoff & Garner, 2012 as quoted by Rumberger). Poverty is an obstacle to learning even for the brightest children. As a result few can overcome these stumbling
Regrettably, some students must drop out of school and use that time to get a job to help support their families. Female students who become pregnant have to drop out to take care of their child. Poor choices constrain some students to land themselves behind bars before their education becomes complete. Primary caretakers becoming ill and/or dying can force high schoolers to drop out and to take on the role of their family member, who has now become unable (“School Dropout”). These events can leave kids all over the country with two different options that have a few stunning similarities; receiving their GED, or dropping out of high school without a
