Recommended: Drug abuse : causes and effects on teenagers

My friend Hannah was always the rebel child. The party scene was definitely where she called home, and the only rule she had, was that there were no rules. At just sixteen, Hannah already had 3 tattoos. In Oklahoma, the law states that no person under the age of eighteen years old can get a tattoo, legally. Hannah had gone to a guy who had been fired from his job for giving underage tattoo’s, knowing that he would give her one for a cheap price. She didn’t care about the health hazards, or the consequences that were possible. Little did Hannah know, the man never changed needles. He used the same needle for every single one of his clients. Just 2 days before Hannah got her tattoo, the man gave a girl with hepatitis C a tattoo. A little over 2 years later, Hannah died from liver failure due to hepatitis C. Her family was outraged, they had no clue she had tattoos, and when they found out, they knew exactly where she got it.

The media has teenagers wanting to be more than they are. Tattooing is a popular thing in the media, so naturally it leaves kids wanting them; including kids underage. The thought of being like a famous celebrity makes teens do things, like getting a tattoo underage, without thinking of the consequences, such as health issues. Not only does the person getting the tattoo have consequences, but so does the person giving the tattoo, and that consequence is jail time.

Why is underage tattooing so popular? Most teens would do anything to be popular. The most popular senior girls have tattoos, and all you want to do is fit in.
