Throughout history, ambition has been a driving force both for individuals and society. Ambition is an eager and sometimes an exorbitant desire for elevation, honor, power, supremacy or simply the achievement of something. The origin of this word comes from the word “ambicioun” and explains the yearning for money and wealth or power in general.
Ambition is basically an instinct. No matter what background or age you are, you are surely ambitious in any way. This eagerness is not only a driving force for both individuals and society but could also end in a fiasco. We set our goals and try to achieve them being ambitious. Sometimes trying to reach our goals is a risky undertaking but only through this we find our talents and get more mature.
To me ambition is really important when it comes to my family and my friends. I usually don’t want to reach a goal or try to achieve something for myself but rather to make others happy. I am not a very ambitious person when concerning homework, exams or school in general and I certainly know that this is not a very good attitude but it is simply a result of my laziness. To me it is extremely important to make others happy, to see them smile and be proud of me. Sometimes certain things like my family or my best friend let me go far beyond my own limits and after I have achieved something, which I thought I could never get to, I feel awesome. But after this wears off I feel empty because the ambition drove me to the height of my abilities and right after I reached the top I simply lose the feeling and feel ordinary.
Don’t you ever ask yourself why people who are really successful are as successful as they are? I do. And a little while ago, after my geography teacher gave us a list of t...

...ional characters are driven by ambition. People like Nelson Mandela and Sojourner Truth are perfect examples for ambition as a driving influence to do good, whereas Macbeth and Dr. Faustus are role models who strive for the wrong goals.
Sojourner Truth for instance was a wonderful person with a courageous mind and strong ambition. She had a major impact on the US today concerning color barriers and challenged justice wherever she thought it should be challenged. During my exchange to the US I learned a lot about this woman and was really amazed by what she achieved. To me she is the real example for a strong-minded person who was able to change everything around her without changing herself for others.
I think everybody should be ambitious. Everybody should have the ambition to do good and to help others by simply treating them the way we want to be treated.
ambition can be a slaver, just like the elders.Over time, people tend to be predisposed to
The style in which characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby conduct their relationships shows how ambition and lack of it causes destruction.
Motivation is the main element towards success. Students, scientist, teachers and/ or any individual who wants to reach a goal needs to be motivated/ambitious. This motivation/ambition is what guides and keep people going. This ambition may be geared towards inventing/creating something, obtaining more money, and/or succeeding. The ambition people have are good, but sometimes lead to bad consequences. These consequences set the relationship between action and ambition. But, no matter what the goal is people with ambitions will not stop until their goal is met. Ambition towards obtaining something is what motivates people. For example Victor Frankenstein wanted to create a human being. As Mary Shelley writes in "Frankenstein", Victor Frankenstein wanted to be "the first to break through life and death ideal bonds"(231). His ambition was to create a human and to break these boundaries. But most importantly, he wanted to be recognized as the first individual to do this. This recognition would make him famous forever. The only thing he thought of was to break the boundaries of life and create a human creature.
Success is all around us. As we look around, we see new technology advancements, new businesses being constructed, and personal goals being met. The world is constantly growing when success is achieved. There are countless, distinctive stories that end with a successful outcome and originated from various beginnings. Some of which we see within our own walls. Yes, we constantly look at the final product, but have we ever wondered how that success came to be? It is often not luck that brings success, it's the ambition.
...rn day society, illusive ambitions can be incredibly detrimental, just as they are demonstrated to be in Macbeth. Ambitions, if they are untamed, can be an impediment to free will; they can overpower your good conscience, possibly leading you into causing death and destruction. They can also corrupt one’s mental health, while practically morphing that person’s perception of reality into something demonstrably wrong and twisted. Finally, they can boost ones ego to a point where that person is engulfed and imprisoned in the vehemence of their own denial, which can ultimately bear fatal consequences. If one’s hopes and desires are innately destructive, then it logically follows that that one’s ambition is also innately destructive; be wary of one with an immense ambition.
Ambition is a strong desire or drive to succeed or achieve something. It can help a person to strive at getting something they want. If someone wants something badly enough, their ambition will help them not give up until they achieve at getting what they want. But also, if a person has too much ambition, it could make that person do destructive things to get what they want and they will hurt anyone or anything that gets in their way.
The vigorous desire to achieve and willingly attain something holds the capability to greatly affect one's life. William Shakespeare's play Macbeth establishes the immense effect and influence of ambition. After gaining power over his country Scotland, the protagonist, Macbeth, experiences an internal downfall as he battles between his wants and moral judgement. He struggles to maintain stable relationships with others as his selfish desires and goals hurt those around him when achieved. In addition to clashing with himself and others, he is seen as a tyrant leader and is slowly turned against by Scotland's nation as well as England. Shakespeare's play Macbeth provides the reader with a clear understanding of ambition's corrupting power in Shakespeare's tragic character Macbeth, through his inner conflicts, struggle to maintain stable relationships with those surrounding him, and clash with society.
The need for achievement refers to the urge to succeed in a given task or even the need to achieve success and excellence in a given exercise. Achievers tend to keep off low risk exercises and up hold high risk projects, they also need continuous feedback which helps them monitor the forward movement of their agendas (McClelland, 2013). Affiliation-individuals who are highly affiliation motivated are pushed by the desire to form and maintain social relationships. They also have the ability to enjoy being in a group, being loved and accepted. Power motivated individuals on the hand are led by the desire to teach, lead, influence and encourage
First, ambition sets the stage for hard work and motivation. Specifically, ambition lets a person know what they are passionate about, encouraging them to advance as far as possible in that realm of interest. It is the stepping stone of motivation and allows a person to see what they are truly capable of. Ambition increases motivation and inspires goal-setting and an outstanding work ethic. Consequently, ambition enables hard work and motivation, emboldening success. In addition, ambition fuels an insatiable thirst for knowledge and motivates a person to reach their goals. In particular, when a person aspires to do something great, they will yearn to learn anything and everything they can that pertains to their goal. Case in point, they are have a greater chance of excelling at the dreams and aspirations if they are ambitious and passionate about their goals and ideas. Furthermore, ambition encourages people to set their goals as high as possible, as well as increasing their standards for their work and for themselves. To illustrate, if someone is passionate about a subject or idea, they will set their goals and standard for reaching that goal higher than Mount Everest. Every person has at least one thing in common: we are all passionate about something, whether it be politics, sports, art, or an infinite array of other topics, we all strive to be successful in those endeavors. All things
An ambition is an eager, and sometimes an inordinate, desire for preferment, honor, superiority, power, or the attainment of something. To obtain object or goal that is immensely desired. It comes from the Middle English word “ambicioun,” meaning and excessive desire for power, money or wealth. Ambition is something that everyone, no matter their age or cultural background, has instinctively. Ambition can be a driving force for success, or in some cases a road to failure. Through ambitious undertakings we can set goals and find ourselves and our God-given talents.
Having ambition to be successful is key in getting what you want in life. Ambitions of getting a great job, a family, and any other thing that will make your life more enjoyable is all do to setting goals. Setting goals of getting paid a certain amount of money by the age of 40 is a goal that will make you work hard, and do well in the business place. Having a family and a nice house is also a goal that will make you do well in the business place, to be able to provide for your family. Also, having those extra things that make your life more enjoya...
If one sets his goals high, it will help him discover what he is really capable of doing. If one’s goals are low, he will never know what he is capable of doing. For example, Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft, and he earns copious amount of money every day. If he stops working and completely shuts down his company, he can still spend one million dollars a day and continue that for 735 years without running out of money; however, he still chooses to work every day. He could have stopped years ago thinking I have done enough, but he chose to keep working; now, the result is in front of us. Because of his high goals, he has made the world an easier and a faster place with his amazing technology. Another example is Alexander the Great, a man who had very high goals, and his goals made him the great leader that people know today. He was from a small place which was known as Macedonia, but his goals helped him conquer most of the known world. If he had not dreamt of such goals, we would have never had such a great leader. In fact, Alexander the Great once said, “There is nothing impossible to him who will try,” meaning that there is no such thing as an “impossible goal.”
Being ambitious is something women should be proud of. For example, In Dawn Jefferson and Rosanne Welch article “Ambitious and proud of it!”, they both remark “If you 're like many women, you probably keep your ambition under wraps, worried that you 'll be labeled ruthless, even selfish, if you talk openly about what you want. But here 's a news flash: Having ambition-and letting others know it-is essential for a satisfying life, writes psychiatrist Anna Pels, MD, in her insightful book Necessary Dreams: Ambition in Women 's Changing Lives” (39) I also disagree with hooks because instead of blaming the system, lets be realistic and talk about what we are able to achieve in the current system. Richard Dorment, the author of “Why Men Still Can’t Have It All” he writes, “If you don 't want a high-pressure, high power, high-paying job that forces you to make unacceptable sacrifices in the rest of your life, don 't take the job. Or get another job that doesn 't require those sacrifices.”(716) On the other hand, I agree with Ullman because being successful gives us the choice to be wherever is comfortable for us. In the movie “ The Devil Wears Prada”(2006) by director David Frankel, Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) choose to lean in and change herself in order to work for the editor-in-chief of American Runway Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), but in the end of the movie Andrea decide to leave her job because as much as successful she is, she is not happy. While Andrea and Miranda were in the car, Andrea said “What if this is not what I want, I mean what If I don 't want to live the way you live” Miranda respond “don 't be ridicules Andrea everybody wants this, everybody want to be us” Andrea leave the car, reject Miranda phone call and through out the phone with a big smile of success and victory in her
My aspiration has always been to be the first in my family to finish high school. By achieving this I will create great motivation for the young people around me. The idea of being able to inspire others by being the first to graduate keeps me motivated to do better. I was once told "We were born in poverty and in poverty we die...” this made me realize that I did not just want to be a high school graduate working in a grocery store for the rest of my life. Simply because I was born in a household with a low income did not mean I could not pursue a career. This gave me motivation to change the “label” society had given me to one of
Being Ambitious is to have a strong desire to do or to achieve something but to be ambitious is to have determination. “The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise.” – Maya Angeluo I feel that you should always have high expectations of yourself and always challenge yourself to “go the extra mile” in any and everything you want to do. I always tell myself that one day that little extra will pay off in the end and that hard work, patience, and perseverance is the key to accomplishing my dreams and goals. My motto is “No one can accomplish my dreams for me, because only I know exactly what I want in life,”
