The concept of global warming has become one of the most widely debated and controversial topics of our time. Scientists learned long ago that the earth’s climate has powerfully shaped the history of humanity. However, it is only in the past few decades that research has revealed that humans have a significant influence on the climate as well. A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that since 1950, the world’s climate has been warming, primarily as a result of emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of tropical forests. More importantly, an article titled "Global Warming" published in the New York Times shows that methane, a gas that is emitted from landfills, livestock and oil gas facilities, is a close second to the carbon dioxide impact on the atmosphere (“Global Warming”). Though there are many scientists who support and can prove that global warming really does exist, a team of scientists from Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) spend their time and energy disproving the myths behind global warming. According to the CEI website, CEI is a company that specializes in debunking those who warn about global warming and climate change (Competitive Enterprise Institute). CEI was founded in 1984 by a group of scientists who all wanted to answer the same question: is global warming real or is it a myth? A compelling argument is presented by the scientists who work for CEI who believe that global warming is a bunch of nonsense that the government wants the public to believe. I believe that instead of believing what the government tells us is true about global warming, we should take action and find the truth ourselves. My argument will begin with an analysis of ... ... middle of paper ... ...hange.” The EPA: Climate Change- Science. EPA, 2011. Web, 9 Nov. 2011. “Global Warming.” New York Times. 30 Sept. 2011. As referenced in Al Gores ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ 97% of the peer reviewed scientific reports regarding global warming within the scientific community, determined that global warming is an undeniable fact. The majority of the world’s population is not exposed to this scientific evidence; only the media's interpretation and distortion of the facts based on the head of their organisations
Throughout history climates have drastically changed. There have been shifts from warm climates to the Ice Ages (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.204). Evidence suggests there have been at least a dozen abrupt climate changes throughout the history of the earth. There are a few suspected reasons for these past climate changes. One reason may be that asteroids hitting the earth and volcanic eruptions caused some of them. A further assumption is that 22-year solar magnetic cycles and 11-year sunspot cycles played a part in the changes. A further possibility is that a regular shifting in the angle of the moon orbiting earth causing changing tides and atmospheric circulation affects the global climate (Cunningham & Cunningham, 2009, p.205). Scientific studies suggest that all these played a role in past global warming and cooling periods. Today, however, there is a lot of conflict on whether humans are causing a global warming that could be disastrous to humans and all species of plants and animals on this earth. This paper will first explain the greenhouse effect, then take a look at both sides argument, and, finally, analyze the effect of global warming on world-wide sustainability
Global warming is a topic of discussion that many people can debate or try to avoid. It is often argued that the causes of global warming are either caused by humans, nature, or both. Some of these people don’t even have a clue about the impact they have on Earth and the ozone layer. Some people may not even know what causes global warming. If people don’t know how they are contributing to global warming, how are they going to contribute to stop it? Humans affect global warming by activities that range from driving to expanding their family. In this case, global warming’s effects are overwhelmingly connected to human activity.
...e respective scientific arguments of both sides. However, I am bothered by charges made by Dr. Richard Lindzen, a former member of IPCC, and others, that IPCC scientists are under pressure to conclude that global warming is caused by carbon dioxide emissions and that the summaries issued by IPCC well in advance of the detailed main IPCC reports often differ significantly in tone and interpretation from the detail in the main reports. The media relies largely on these easily digested summaries.
Climate change is a hot topic with many people saying that the humans are making the world's temperature increase and other saying it’s a natural cycle. Climate change can be very dangerous because it can make environments to hostile to certain plants or animals and it also can make the sea level increase witch would put many cities in danger.. The people that believe that the humans are to blame state that the amount of CO₂ that humans emit into the atmosphere and deforestation are the main problems that we are currently doing. Whilst the people that say its a natural process say that is a natural cycle and we are just unfortunate to experience this in our lifetime. In this debate the evidence seems to side with the people saying that the humans are the cause.
After viewing Climate of Doubt, it’s quite clear that the debate of climate change has quite the history. Dating back to 2007, there have been global warming advocates. The issue, however, arises from the opposing groups. On the side of global warming advocates, they are often depicted as “tree-hugging liberals.” On the other side, you have those depicted as “heartless science denying conservatives.” It’s within these opposing sides where you see the reason for a contentious debate. Each of the sides are constantly trying to poke holes in science and deny blatant truth. For example, the documentary highlights the “climategate.” It is explained that climategate was an email controversy where emails were taken out of context to combat climate
Global warming is a major disaster, which has put us through a difficult situation. Global warming is scaring everyone who is aware of it.

Climate Change, or “Global Warming,” has been a point of argument for many years. There are many theories for how and why the climate has changed and been affected. The big question is, Are humans really causing the climate to change or is it some other cause no one is willing to see? All around climate change or “Global Warming” is a cycle of the Earths atmospheric temperature, because statistics show that this cycle has been occurring for millions of years. There is no direct evidence supporting the claim that humans have any direct effect on global warming. The IPPC, Patrick Gonzalez, and Bharat Raj Singh have been giving people hand-picked information on climate change to control what we think. The people need to have all the information in order to make a sound decision on how they feel.
As we approach the future we are faced with many global problems. Most of these problems arise because we have caused them ourselves. We need to face these problems and find a solution. Global warming, although most often overlooked in importance, is a crucial problem of the future directly related to human activities. Global warming is caused by gases humans release into the atmosphere called anthropogenic gases and by deforestation. Anthropogenic gases include carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofl...
Global warming has become on of the most controversial issues in the media today. While most of the Western world countries have generally accepted the premise that man's chemical emissions in the atmosphere can and are affected by the world’s climate patterns, in the United States, the issue has become so politicized with many republicans challenging the science behind the theory. Global warming is a greenhouse effect whereby gases are trapped on the earth’s surface causing it to heat up (Maslin 14). It is based on the worldwide temperature records that have been maintained by human beings through their activities since the 1880,s. In addition, global warming is not only caused by human activities only but also through climate changes in solar radiance. The problem is that, humans continue to contribute to the global warming phenomenon. All citizens should work in reducing human activities that cause global warming and also support the development of nuclear power. Scientists deem that, global warming is mainly caused by human activities which accelerate the natural process by creating greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Human activities have become a great contribution to the greenhouse effect and this means that climate changes are inevitable. They further argue that, if these activities continue and are not reduced, it will lead to more trapping of energy radiated from the earth and this will likely lead to extreme weather and global warming. Global warming should be at reduced levels or else, it will be catastrophic.
In June of 1988, James Hansen, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), informed a Senate committee that, "the greenhouse effect has been detected and is changing our climate now." With this statement, he launched the ongoing international debate on the magnitude of global warming and its "potential to adversely affect the Earth's environment."1 Unfortunately, since this announcement, the world has not yet become fully mobilized to act on this problem. The majority of solutions proposed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have not been implemented as countries like the US, though symbolically ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, hesitate to actually implement its policies. The slow progress of policy to abate global warming can be attributed to limited scientific backgrounds of politicians, lobbying from polluting industries, international disagreement and confusion over the sheer number of policy options now being considered.
The controversial subject of global warming according to a large amount of scientists is not a prominent concern. Over 31,000 scientists have signed on to a petition saying humans aren't causing global warming. More than 1000 scientists signed on to another report saying there is no global warming at all. There are tens of thousands of well-educated, mainstream scientists who do not agree that global warming is occurring at all. If so many scientists believe it is not a concern then why should we think any different? Well, a consensus shows that in reality 97% of all climate scientists agree that global warming is an issue and that it is most likely due to ...
The earth is a complex system, which continues to evolve and change. Climate change and global warming are currently popular in the political agenda. But what does “climate” really mean? The difference between weather and climate can be conveyed in a single sentence: “Climate is what you expect; weather is what you get.” Based on research of the geologic record, we know that climate change has happened throughout Earth's history and at present, ever-increasing evidence points to the roles that humans play in altering Earth systems. The Earth and its atmosphere receive heat energy from the sun; the atmospheric heat budget of the Earth depends on the balance between incoming solar radiation and outgoing radiation from the planet; which has been constant over the last few thousand years. However present evidence seems to suggest that the recent increase in temperature has been brought about by pollution of the atmosphere, in particular the release of huge amounts of carbon dioxide, mostly through Anthropogenic Forcing (human activity) and other various internal and external factors. I...
Global Warming One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”).
