The effects on Earth from its inhabitants is causing the temperature on the Earth to rise, and creating many problems that will begin to occur in the coming decades. The greenhouse effect is the absorption of energy radiated from the Earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to become warmer. The greenhouse effect is what is causing the temperature on the Earth to rise.
Today, major changes are taking place. People are conducting an inadvertent global experiment by changing the face of the entire planet. We are destroying the ozone layer, which allows life to exist on the Earth's surface. All of these activities are unfavorably altering the composition of the biosphere and the Earth's heat balance. Through these actions we come to the pinnacle of an eco-revolution.
"The Larsen B ice shelf… has shattered and separated from the continent as a result of warming." (USA TODAY, 1) As the global temperature steadily rises so do the results of this global heat wave, impacting the environment. Ice which has remained frozen for 100’s of thousands of years has begun to melt, and break off into the ocean. Once separated from the ice shelf it is only a matter of time before the ice is reverted back to water, causing a rise in global sea levels. The end result of this melt is costal flooding as the sea level rises beyond its natural barriers, and spills into areas below our current sea level.
In addition to changes being made to land masses, global warming is also impacting nature, which relies heavily on the delicate temperature balance which currently exists. “At lease 70 species of frogs, mostly mountain-dwellers that had nowhere to go to escape the creeping heat, have gone extinct because of climate change..” (Climateark.org, 1) Animals driven to the point of extinction due to the effects of global warming is a very concerning factor. The environment is being drastically changed due to small changes in global temperatures, 1 degree in climate change is devastating entire eco-systems.
Not only has global warming impacted nature, and wildlife but it has also been shown to be a factor increasing disastrous weather. “…hurricanes and typhoons have become strong and longer lasting over the past 30 years. These upswings correlate with a rise in sea surface temperature.” (Roach, 1) Rising ocean temperatures due to an increase in planetary temperature, creates more powerful and disastrous weather.
Global warming is an issue we are all pretty familiar with. It is the climate change that we, humans, are responsible for. The warming of the earth’s atmosphere is caused by the fossil fuels we burn, clearing of forests, and the carbon dioxide and other harmful gases we release into the air (Cunningham, Cunningham, 2009). There are other harmful toxins we use such as pesticides that are supporting global warming. Some effects of global warming include: increase in weather catastrophes, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and the impact on species could lead to extinction (Cunningham, Cunningham, 2009). “Many scientists regard anthropogenic global climate change to be the most i...
Global warming is a problem that is often overlooked by many and is hindered among other problems that require immediate actions. Over the last 136 years the temperature in earth has increased 1.7°¬¬¬F. Although an increase of 1.7°¬¬¬F over 136 years may not seem like a lot but humans are destroying the earth at a faster rate than ever before. Human omissions are roughly equal to 4 Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding across the planet every second leaving future generations of human in jeopardy. With warmer climate comes with catastrophic outcomes like drought, which can destabilize the food sources on earth leaving millions of people hungry. Widespread extinction of most species on earth and the melting of polar ice caps can raise the sea level leaving most of the world’s coastal cities under water. This cannot happen overnight but if humans keep omitting at the current rate the outcome of climate change will become prominent
The rising of temperatures is caused by factors called climate forcing or “forcing mechanisms”. This includes processes such as variations in solar radiation, variations in the Earth’s orbit, mountain-building and continental drift, and changes in greenhouse gas concentration. Solar radiation gets trapped by gases, which are created on earth, in the atmosphere. The radiation comes from the sun towards earth and bounces off the earth’s surface. However much of the radiation gets trapped by the gases remaining behind which warms our planet instead of going back into space like previously. This is known as the greenhouse effect. Some of the major contributing gases are; water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and our ozone layer. According to sources at Real Climate, 36-85% of the greenhouse effect is due to water vapor (including clouds), followed by carbon dioxide at 9-26%, and last all the minor greenhouse gas absorbers at 7-8%. Humans contribute to the greenhouse effect by deforestation, land use changes, and burning fo...
The greenhouse effect is the cause of global warming in the world. The greenhouse effect is a topic of discussion throughout the world; it needs to be contained immediately. “Our effect on the environment, and in particular on climate change, is large and growing” (Tony Blair) The greenhouse effect is when sunlight and solar radiation enters the atmosphere and hits the earth and bounces back, but with the greenhouse effect it then goes back up into the atmosphere and is
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that keeps the earth at temperatures that are livable. Energy from the sun warms the earth when its heat rays are absorbed by greenhouse gasses and become trapped in the atmosphere. Some of the most common greenhouse gasses are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane. If there were no greenhouse gasses, very few rays would be absorbed and the earth would be extremely cold. When too many rays are absorbed the earth’s atmosphere heats up and it causes what we know as global warming. Al Gore (2006) described the greenhouse effect as the potentially most dangerous environmental problem facing mankind, with consequences second only to nuclear war (p.299). As the name suggests, global warming isn’t merely affecting parts of the world, it is threatening the world globally.
Environmental climate change, “a long-term change in the earth's climate, especially a change due toan increase in the average atmospheric temperature,” can be directly linked human causation ("Climate Change," 2017). A jaw-dropping 51 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions are a direct result of animal agriculture (Peta, 2017). The importance of global warming is not to be underestimated. Trees are blooming sooner than in the past causing their buds to die in a late winter freeze, glaciers are shrinking, and ice is breaking up on bodies of water or not forming at all. In the past scientists have predicted the loss of sea ice and more intense heat waves which are all occurring today. Scientists are certain that global temperatures will continue to increase. ("The Consequences," 2017). Subsequently, gas emissions have major effects on the planet and can be linked directly to animal
Sea levels are also affected by global temperature change. Because the polar ice caps are melting and that’s causing more water to be on earth and causing our sea levels to rise. Our Sea levels have been rising and have risen 4 inches within the last century. Which causes less land for us because in will be overtaken by new water rising from the ice melting away. We’d have to go to higher grounds, the less the land the less people we can have. Ocean animals will be harmed when the cold water comes down if they're not suppose to be in cold water and cold water animals will be harmed because they're not suppose to be in warmer waters. The polar bears and other arctic animals will become extinct once there habitat is gone. Tectonic plates are affected too it doesn’t only move land but also the sea. It can cause tsunamis and earthquakes.
Climate change has had many impacts all over the world and evidence of it is very apparent. One example that climate change has impacted the earth is the rising sea levels. Since planet earth is slowly getting warmer by greenhouse gasses, the glaciers and ice sheets around the world are melting, which is adding more water to the oceans. Within the last century, the global water levels have risen by nearly 7 inches. In a quote from “A Student 's Guide” they say,
Global warming is a negative affect on Earth what it affects; are animals to become extinct including polar bears also many other animals, diseases to spread in areas never been/seen before, and sea level rising which could cause problems for living societies, and forest fires to its environment and population. One degree in Earth’s temperature across its entire surface means huge changes in climatic extremes.
“Average temperatures in the U.S. over the last century have already increased by more than one degree fahrenheit.”(NWF). There has been many noticeable changes due this minor change in temperature. These changes in temperatures are causing problems such as when animals migrate or when they go to hibernate. Warmer temperatures cause the animals to think it is earlier than it actually is and can lead them to migrate or hibernate at the wrong times. These increases in temperature are also leading to the melting of ice in the arctic. Many animals, such as polar bears and seals depend on the ice for somewhere to live and survive. This melting of the ice also leads to sea levels rising. The rising of the sea levels also causes loss of habitats because coastlines and beaches are eroded away. Global warming leads to the extinction of animals because many habitats are lost. With the loss of habitats, animals are completely lost and they have to change their whole way of life in order to survive. If they are not able to adapt to their new surroundings many could become endangered or extinct as the result of lack of food or shelter. Clearly, global warming is adding to the extinction of many
Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren’t any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and will lead to several problems that affect the environment in which we humans live in. These problems can lead to warmer temperatures all around the world, it can endanger animals and the wildlife, and it can lead to widespread flooding from the glaciers melting. Here are a few more future effects that I will discuss in more detail about. Damage to human health, Severe stress on forests, wetlands, and other natural habitats, how fish will be affected. Global warming is a serious problem that will affect our generation when we are older.
Global warming can be a great danger to the whole world because when the temperatures rise the polar ice caps can start to melt, marine life can be harmed, and plants can be disrupted in their growing seasons. In fact, global warming has already “caused the collapse and disintegration of nearly two-thirds of Antarctica's huge L...
Of all the effects of global warming, the extreme weather that is taking place all over the world is the most obvious one. Global warming will bring more heat waves, drought, fiercer wildfires and stronger hurricanes. “This intensification of weather and climate extremes will be the most visible impact of global warming in our everyday lives” (75 yrs NWF). Due to rising temperatures, places everywhere will be affected as we get more extremely hot summer days and lesser winters. In addition, as these rising temperatures shifts the cycle of rain and increases evaporation, there will be longer and drier droughts which in turn can lower the water supply for life everywhere. Wildfires can turn out to be even more catastrophic due to warmer temperatures and drier areas combined with accumulated levels of fuel loads in the forest which has built up as a result of decades of fire suppression activities. Moreover, stronger hurricanes are also an effect of global warming as sea levels are rising and heavier rains are falling near the coasts. Overall, global warming is bringing climates that are changing real fast.
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
As global warming continues to impact the earth, warmer days will become more frequent days, which means that there will be more heat waves. “Storms, flooding, and droughts will generally be more severe as precipitation patterns change. Hurricanes may increase in intensity due to warmer ocean surface temperatures” (Przyborski, 2013). Over the past fifty years, these types of weather conditions have increased and global warming caused most of them. Unfortunately, heat and weather is not the only thing happening with global warming. Rising sea levels is also a major concern that has an eye out for. As this will start happening, the sea levels will start to erode coasts and cause more frequent flooding. It may almost come to the conclusion where some islands will disappear. This could start to become a major concern because ten percent of land on the world lives approximately ten meters above sea level. As all of these factors of the world continue to take part here on earth, things may start to get a little more challenging to face. Dealing with these will not only impact the world as one, but the people who live on it. Homes will be destroyed and there will be fewer opportunities for us to continue our journey here on
