This paper is written to inform you about three technology opportunities that will make a positive impact on transportation. These opportunities will lead to more efficient transportation now and in the future. The first technological opportunity discussed is Truck Design; the design of the truck can make a difference in fuel cost. The second technological opportunity discussed is a Speed Governor System; this is a device in trucks that restricts the speed it can travel. The final technological opportunity discussed is the use of cloud computing; this is where information and software is shared on multiple devices. By the end of this paper you will know what great things can come out of these three new technologies and how they impact a company for the better.
The design of a vehicle can have a big impact on gas efficiency. When a truck cuts down on wind resistance it takes less energy for it to move on down the road. When the miles per gallon are improved a company can transport items at a lower cost. The areas that trucking companies can improve on to make their trucks more efficient are the actual design of the trailer, the design of the engine, and the design of the cab.
When designing the trailer designers need to put together ideas that will reduce drag. Adding additions such as skirts to the fuel tanks and extenders to get rid of the gap between the trailer and truck make it so air has no space to slow down the vehicle. When the frame of the trucks is rounded they catch less air than the traditional boxy alternatives. “These aerodynamic features can save up to 28 million gallons of fuel per year for the largest fleets (Graham, 2011).” With new and better versions of engines, trucks can now get better fuel e...

In a car crash, the more weight there is, the risk of injuries drops (Williams, May Twenty-second, 2015). In most semi truck accidents (about seventy percent of semi truck accidents), when only the semi truck and trailer alone are involved, there are no deaths. But when another vehicle (such as a car, van, or pickup truck ) is involved, about ninety-eight percent of the time there is at least one fatality, which is really low compared to some other means of transportation (such as a train or an airplane) (EJustice, 2012).
...has way more space for when you go on long road trips. The reason people do not decide to buy Chevy truck over Ford or Dodge trucks is because they are not as comfortable, they're not as roomy, and they do not look as good as Dodges and Fords. Most people would look to buy a Dodge over a Ford to because Fords do not have the most comfiest seats and they do not have as much storage or leg room. Dodges pros outweigh its cons so there is no reason why not to own a Dodge. Dodge is much more comfortable than Ford or Chevy so buy a Dodge and do not get sore when you drive because driving is supposed to be fun.

Increasing environmental awareness, coupled with a responsible American government and improved technology, have all contributed to the comeback of low-and zero-emissions vehicles in the US. It remains to be seen whether the automakers and oil companies will once again work to halt this progress, or embrace it as the technology of a more responsible future.

Cummins has a history of innovation beginning in 1919 when it was founded and produced its first diesel engine, a 1.5 to 8 horsepower model used to power pumps. In 1929, a Cummins engine powered the first diesel-powered U.S car. The company continued to advance in the diesel engine and power generation industry, and in 1958 Cummins Filtration was started to meet the high-performance requirements of Cummins diesel engines (Cummins Inc.). In 1985, Cummins introduced aerodynamic contours to Class 8 trucks years ahead of its time. This new shape greatly reduced air flow drag and, combined with a lightweight engine, attained up to 20 percent higher fuel efficiency than similar vehicles at the time. In 1999, Beijing Public Transit launched a fleet of 300 buses with Cummins B5.9 engines to improve city air quality, being the first clean, alternative fuel fleet in Asia and remains the largest in the world, with more than 3500 Cummins Westport natural gas powered buses (Cummins Inc.). These are just a few examples demonstrating a history marked by improvement and innovation of new technologies in order to reduce emissions and increase efficiencies for the benefit of the environment.

The future American commuter will undoubtedly have to transition from the use of fossil fuels to new alternatives due to the diminishing availability of the nation’s oil resources. How will America respond to this upcoming issue? It is difficult to predict which alternative fuel source America will ultimately choose, but with the premier of Nissan’s electric powered Leaf and other companies; such as Tesla Motors and Chevy, with their electric cars ready for market, the electric car may be winning the race to become the new standard for the gasoline alternative. Electric cars resolve long standing environmental issues, but it will need to maneuver around many roadblocks to become a marketable consideration for the general public. The cost of electric cars, currently on the market, makes them an impractical purchase for the average consumer. If cost is not the growing concern in today’s economy which prevents the consumer from considering this option; they may deny the technological advance due to battery storage capabilities and the inadequate infrastructure in place to refuel and provide for them.
Theodore Peterman couldn’t have been better inspiration for trucking industries. It started out with just an idea on how to move the logs from the forest to his lumber fast and efficiently and it turned out to be one of the most well known trucking industries in today’s economy. Unfortunately, Theodore had past November 16, 1944 of cancer. His wife Ida had to sell the organization and land. Peterbilt trucking has helped with not only carrying heavy equipment but also became a great asset to our society. The Peterbilt industry has worked on making Peterbilt trucks more Eco friendly. This became their environmental mission.
Richard Petty once said “You’ll got home safe, so drive safe, and stay safe.” Being a racing legend, he is an advocate for safe driving to minimise the cases of road crushes that have been on the rise. He double up as the chairman of the Veterans’ Safe Driving Initiative, the initiative is aimed at guiding the veterans returning from deployment on safe driving tips. It is necessarily important since the infrastructure has changed over time. Another initiative is being run in Minnesota where the teens are guided on the important safe driving tips. Study shows that more crushes are likely to occur in teen driving than veteran driving. It is also evident that young drivers are more likely to cause a crush within six months of passing the driving test and young male are worse than the females in the field.
Imagine that you’re driving on an open highway in the middle of summer. All you see in front of you is asphalt for miles and miles. The windows are down and your favorite song comes on the radio. You’re behind the wheel of a Tesla Model S, the newest electric car that can go from zero to sixty miles per hour in 2.4 seconds. This will soon be the future of all motor vehicles. Electric cars are beginning to have colossal impacts on our society because of their energy efficiency, performance benefits, and the fact that they are less harmful to the environment. In the near future, electric cars will dominate the road and eventually the planet’s overall need for oil will decrease immensely.

In today's changing business environment, information technology plays an incredibly important role in almost every aspect of the day to day life of almost every industry. The transportation industry is, of course, no different. From the transport of goods from manufacture, to warehousing, to retail, to end-user, the industry relies on information technology to get things done. The transportation of people is the exact same; incredibly important to get done yet impossible without the impact of information technology.
Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety. Safe driving involves off-road precautionary measures such as making sure tires are properly inflated, testing windshield wipers, getting regular oil changes and tune-ups and adjusting the mirrors. All of these actions can help prevent an accident. Unfortunately, not all of us decide to wear our seat belts when driving or turn signal ligh...
In addition to the concerns about car manufacturing and driving, we should also consider the impact of construction areas where new houses are being built, with many truck with loads going across the country. This is an important contribution to pollution, which creates both air and noise pollution. Japan and Europe auto manufacturing based in US has recently involved activities to improve fuel efficiency of their vehicles. The European car makers planned to design a new engine and at same time to develop long distance vehicles. The autos made in Europe, for example Daimler Chrysler, recently came out with a new product which is a vehicle with 3 liters per hour, and also a diesel engine, which consumes 3.4 liters of fuel per 100 With this new idea both the auto makers and their suppliers have created a centralized body of authority in order to promote this increasing environmental issue to all under the protection of USCAR (United states council for automobile research) and in addition (USAMPILCA)
