Since the beginning of the last century, technology has become sole focus of our society. We are continually trying to push boundaries of technology, exerting all effort to advance its capabilities, not for the purpose of making our lives easier, but to loosening our human limitations. Limitations that have restrained us from understanding the depths of our universe, our biology, and even geographic make up of our world; shattering these limitations have revolutionized our lifestyles. These revolutionized effects have sparked debates on whether we have become vicious abuser of technology and ourselves? Even college professor claim that “the internet enables students to access a wider range of resources than would otherwise be available,” and 65% agree of these teachers agree that “the internet makes today’s students more self-sufficient researchers.”(Kristen Purcell). It has become easier to access information that dates even far as 1941-from articles to timely newspaper comics-, which makes it easier than searching through long, tedious catalogs in the library. Although Google allows information to be found quickly it, students have become too dependent on it; they now consider searching a single phrase on Google as equate to validated research. This quick access of information has caused a growth in the greatest of educational sins; a sin that have always existed since the creation of cheating, students has always found ways to plagiarize-cheating with the upmost desire of not repenting- but when Google was invented, it became easier to steal essays and research paper from online databases. The problem isn’t just the fact that students are committing this unpardonable sin; it is the fact that they showing signs of decreased intelligence. The word to focus on is “technical” meaning that those without some sort of science based degree are bound to be replaced. In the 1950s there was skyrocket of jobs because there was a demand for physical, unskilled labor to handle the ever growing need for technology. A few decades, later unskilled workers are being replaced by the very same machine that they once assembled; some of these workers are choosing to work part-time just to be able to keep their jobs. According to the BLS, “advances in technology are making many of the duties performed by these workers obsolete. The expanding use of software that automates computer operations gives companies the option of making systems more efficient, but greatly reduces the need for operators” (BLS, p. 602). It seems that our advancement in efficiency has also destroyed the lives of workers that do not have the education or skills to operate this new technology. The technology isn’t the true cause of eradication of jobs; it is the greediness of the corporate owners. They have rationalized their options of either having to pay insurance and wages for a human- fragile and stressed- or they can cash in their money for a robot, a mindless machine that knows no breaks.
