Summary
What processes do we undertake when it comes to problem solving? This report is divided into three parts which includes; the topic of problem solving, my self-reflection and an action plan.
Part one of this report looks into the history, overview, evaluation and analysis of three processes within problem solving; To specify, the 5 Why technique, The Simplex Tool and finally the PDCA Cycle. The research focuses on which is the most resourceful process that can be applied to a student’s life and the work force. Based on the research it shows that the 5 why technique is the most beneficial process to a broad audience and environment.
Part two focuses on my personal and professional development since the start of my first year at university. The main attention is concentrated on how I have performed and developed from semester one into semester two and what I have learnt from certain events during this time. Part two also includes my personal criticism of revised results about myself using Andy Adcroft’s motivation survey which specifies numerous learning strategies, motivation and expectations. This gave me an insight to my development throughout the first year of university, where I would be and what I plan for the following years at university.
Lastly, part three of this report focuses on my future development both personal and professional. It previews my current situation as a student; it has become evident that I have improved in my attitude towards learning. What I hope to achieve by next June, is to achieve a first and secure a placement. The steps I would like to take to reach my goal include, staying organised and motivated. Finally I will aim to overcome certain obstacles such as facing peer pressure.

Many are the characteristics of a student and undoubtedly being a student is a hard journey full of ups and downs and delights and worries. It is the beginning of the future; the future that one day will reveal the fruit of years of work and efforts of being a student. In which at the end of the student journey the future awaits.
A problem is defined as recurring incidents that are similar in nature, cause harm or have the potential to cause harm, and that the public expects the police to fix. (The International Association of Crime Analysts [IACA]) Problem solving consists of a planning process which involves brainstorming and coming up with alternative ways to correct an undesirable situation. There are many processes, approaches, procedures, methods, tactics, strategies, policies, and technologies involved in problem solving. Problem solving can be used to evaluate crime and other problems, look into what the underlying causes may be, develop and implement solutions to the problems, and analyze the effectiveness of the solutions on the problems. (Ortmeier, P.J. & Meese III, E., 2010) Problem solving is used in many settings, with community oriented problem solving at the forefront. Communities join efforts with the local police agencies and work towards a solution to the problem or problems that their community is facing. (Glensor, & Peak, 1998)
A deconstructive approach to problem solving puts in question the concept of "problem" and the notion of "solution."
13. Preventing Boredom and filling “free” time: To prevent students from becoming sidetracked and bored, I know it is important to have a continuous flow of activities. To ensure this, I plan all of my lessons with extra activities for unexpected “free” time. These efforts will help ensure that class time is used wisely for furthering education. I feel that the busier I keep my students the less likely they will have time for inappropriate behavior.

In this assignment the practitioner is going to plan and prepare two experiences in which they will implement and evaluate after each of the lesson. These two experiences will be based on current theory, it will be in a form of an appendix to illustrate the two experiences as well as to promote children’s and young people’s thinking skills, creativity and problem solving. Many researchers such as Wilson (2000 cited in Macleod-Brudenell and Kay, 2008, p.323) have suggested that thinking skills are ways in which a child or young person is looking at the problem. To which we use thinking as a way of processing what we as individual know as well as remembering and perceiving. As for the skills this is the way in which we act by collecting and sorting information to help make decisions and reflect after wards (Macleod-Brudenell and Kay, 2008, p.323). This will include the practitioner to use effective approaches as well as evaluate tools, resources which can help to stimulate children and young people learning as well as supporting children development. The term for creativity has been define as being the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness (Oxford Dictionary 2013). The definition of the term problem solving has been described as the process of finding solutions to difficult or complex issues (Oxford Dictionary 2013).
