When a story is told from first-person point of view, it is the most important decision a writer makes because it determines which story is told. With a first person view, the author’s voice disappears into one of the characters. It only gives the reader access to the narrator’s perspective of the events, characters and plot. First Person narrative includes the reader in the story, which makes the reader feel like he or she is personally experiencing and seeing everything. While Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” and Poe’s “A Tell-tale heart” both follow the first-person point of view, the authors have different effects in their stories. William Faulkner’s "A Rose for Emily” uses first person-point of view in the story. The story portrays the life of Emily, which is told through the eyes of the townspeople. The viewpoint of the townspeople is limited because they do not know about the actual events that occurred.
