Euclid was born around 365 B.C; his birthplace was in Alexandria, Egypt. Euclid died around 275 B.C., he died in Alexandria Egypt. His death was unspecified. The city of his birth place is a mystery. Medieval authors often called him Euclid of Megara. They often confused him with an earlier philosopher Eucleides of Megara, who was an associate of Socrates and Plato. When Euclid arrived at the Academy School, Plato and the first generation of his students had already died.
The Academy was the outstanding mathematical school of the time. He traveled to Alexandria and was appointed to the faculty of the Museum. Ptolemy Soter ruled Egypt from 323 to 283. Ptolemy was boyhood friend of Euclid. Then lieutenant of Alexander the Great, Alexander the Great had seized Egypt. After the conqueror’s death, Alexander became the successor of the Pharaohs and managed to make his capital. Euclid became the librarian of the museum at some point in his life. He had many students, even if their names are not recorded, they carried on tradition.
