Ways to live forever I read the book ‘ways to live forever’ by Sally Nicholls. This book was very easy to read but it was very sad and heart-warming. In this book review I will be looking at the setting, plot and characterisation. The setting of the book was set in the United Kingdom. Sam spent most of his time at Felix’s house, his house or the hospital because of his leukaemia he could not go to dangerous places so he had to be kept close to a responsible adult so nothing would happen to him. This book is set in the past because Sam is telling the story of his last few months of living, this setting is not familiar to me as I have never experienced anyone with cancer that is close to me and I have never had cancer so this setting is not familiar to me. I learnt that I have to live my life to the fullest because life can end very quickly just like Sam’s life did. This book is about Sam an 11 year old boy who has had leukaemia for nearly his whole life, Sam has a bucket list which he wants to finish before he dies, and he also wants to finish his book which has a lot of questions on ...

Just in the introduction Chris Crutcher throws a huge incident at the reader that caught and held their interest. In the first chapter Ben Wolf is diagnosed with a rare blood disease, which if not treated will leave him with a maximum of one year to live. The reader might have found this thrilling because curiosity arises to what the protagonist will do with his short time to live. I always looked at death as such a sad thing that is eventually going to occur to everyone. However, after reading this book, it made me realize death can actually be a beautiful thing. Death allows a person to go to a next life, one where they will be loved and others will be there for them. It was interesting to be able to read about stories that these hospice care workers witnessed themselves. I have experienced a few deaths within my life and I never coped with them very well. After reading this book, I honestly believe I will be able to look at the positive side of death and be able to deal with my emotions better. I can also help others surrounding me deal with a death that they are experiencing. This book was filled with information that I loved learning. For example, I never knew that a dying person can choose a time to die. The thought of this never occurred to me before. I always thought that when it was someone’s time to go, they had no choice. But, a dying person can “put off” passing on until they see a certain person or event that has great significance in their life. Nevertheless, there are still people who will wait to die until they’re all alone in the room. This book makes you think of real life situations and think what you would do in them. Taken as a whole, it was a very in depth book that changes the way you would naturally perceive
The theme of this novel is to look at the good you do in life and how it carries over after your death. The moral of the book is; "People can make changes in their lives whenever they really want to, even right up to the end."
?If you remain imprisoned in self denial then days, weeks, months, and years, will continue to be wasted.? In the play, 7 stories, Morris Panych exhibits this denial through each character differently. Man, is the only character who understands how meaningless life really is. All of the characters have lives devoid of real meaning or purpose, although they each have developed an absurd point or notion or focus to validate their own existence. In this play, the characters of Charlotte and Rodney, are avoiding the meaninglessness of their lives by having affairs, drinking, and pretending to kill each other to enhance excitement into their life.
A majority of people in the 21st century take somethings for granted. In the novel “Tuesdays with Morrie.” One of the main Characters Named Morrie Schwartz, is an extremely lovable college professor, who in his late sixties, finds out that he is diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The story of his last few weeks on earth is told by Mitch Albom, one of Morrie’s former students, who happends to reunite with him during his final days.
Children have often been viewed as innocent and innocent may be a nicer way to call children naive. Since children’s lives are so worry free they lack the knowledge of how to transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. Their lack of knowledge may be a large part of their difficulties growing up, which could be a few rough years for many. In books like the boy in the striped pajamas the story is told from the point of view of a little boy, this way we get a full view of how innocent he is. In this book the writer shows the reader first hand how a child viewed the holocaust and how his innocence cost him his life. Then in books like the perks of being a wallflower Charlie is a teen whom is struggling with the transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. In this book the writer gives a first hand look at how difficult it can be to transition into an adolescent. Charlie has many difficulties in this book; he is in search of his identity and how to fit in.
Death and Grieving Imagine that the person you love most in the world dies. How would you cope with the loss? Death and grieving is an agonizing and inevitable part of life. No one is immune from death’s insidious and frigid grip. Individuals vary in their emotional reactions to loss.
Is living forever the greatest gift of the ultimate curse? This is the question that both the ALA notable book, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, and the movie based on the book raise. Both explore the exciting possibility of never facing death, the harsh reality of a never ending life and the greed that it can bring. A look at the similarities and differences will reveal that the theme, along with the general story line, was one of the few things that remain the same in the translation from book to movie.
Susan Wolf, born in 1952, is widely considered one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th and 21st century. One of Wolf’s most renowned works is The meanings of Lives, which drew a lot of attention in the philosophical world for a number of questions that arose from it. Arguably her most widely debated and questioned assertion in The meanings of Lives is “If you care about yourself you’re living as if you’re the center of the universe, which is false.” This however I don’t not believe to be true. Every human being, no matter how successful or unsuccessful, has the right to care for them sleeves and not believe they are the center of the universe while doing so.
The fictional life and death of a twelve year old little boy named Robert is vividly articulated in this moving tale by Thomas Wolfe. The reader learns of the boy’s life through four well developed points of view. The reader’s first glimpse into Robert’s character is expressed through a third person narrative. This section takes place on a particularly important afternoon in the boy’s life. The second and third views are memories of the child, through the eyes of his mother and sister. His mother paints the picture of an extraordinary child whom she loved dearly and his sister illustrates the love that the boy had for others. Finally, an account from the narrator is given in the ending. It is in the last section of this work that the narrator attempts to regain his own memories of his lost brother.

The Nigerian novelist Wole Soyinka's memoir, Aké, is a story told through the eyes of a child. Many incidents and the dialogues within these incidents are written in a tone which is suggestive of the innocence and actions which would only be performed by someone in a child-like state of mind. Soyinka's masterful use of this tone, and the primary use of first person in story telling combine to form a realistic childhood picture.
