Studying is something everyone does, if it is studying for a class or a test or even studying to remember something for a job. There are various ways to study and a lot of key concepts to studying. Studying is also hard for some people because most people do not know what learning concept they understand the most. Landsberger (1996) states “Before you begin studying, take a few minutes to summarize a few objectives, gather what you will need, and think of a general strategy of accomplishment.” Most people take notes to review the learning information that they gather.
Taking notes is the main concept of studying, if the studier has no notes then what are they really studying? Taking notes helps the student remember everything they learned in class. According to O’Hara (2005), “Taking notes involves active listening, as well as connecting and relating information to ideas you already know.” In high school a Chemistry teacher would tell her students to fold their papers ¼ the hot dog way, on one side they would write their notes and on the smaller side they would write the questions they have. She believed this would help her students study well if they searched for the answers to the questions they wrote. There are several ways to take notes. The studier can take notes the plain way, just write it all down. The studier can make their notes colorful and use different color pens and highlighters to make the important things pop. A unique way studiers can take notes is to record the teacher when their speaking. It all depends on what type of learner the studier is to know what style of notes work for them.

So as many can see study skills is a big topic and there is several ways to study. Taking notes is the best way to go back and review the information the student obtain. People learn content in so many ways it all depends on the type of learner they are. Study groups are a great thing when the studier unfamiliar with the topic they are studying. But always remember that taking a test is an individual effort and not a group effort.

A goal I have for academics is to not fail any quizzes or tests. One way I can do this is to study before every quiz and test. I can do this by making a good study guide and good notes for myself. I will also ask many questions so I can so I can know all the information. If I am confused on a question, I should ask questions so I can understand what will be asked on the test. One of the most important things I need to do to help my test grade is pay attention in class. If I take plenty of notes and listen to the lesson, I will have resources to study off of so I will do well. This year, I should do well on all of my tests and quizzes as long as I study, pay attention in class, and ask plenty of questions.
One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. My studying habits will be adjusted to

Ernest Bormann's Symbolic Convergence Theory offers a promising method of looking at small group interaction and cohesiveness. When individuals who are not familiar with each other come together for the sake of achieving a common goal, be it a group in an organization or students working on a school project, the symbolic convergence theory presents an understandable and generally accurate stance on how cohesiveness within the group is attained.

Per the assessment results, there are three discrete principles that need to be addressed based on my personal, distinct habits. As I make a transition from high school to college, the weaknesses that need to be improved are interpreted as my note-taking, textbook and time management abilities. Primarily, note-taking is the worst mannerism found in my results. As a student, I always attempt to write down every single word in a presentation, or lecture. My note-taking habits need to be terminated because I am not enhancing my skills or learning any of the information, I am just regurgitating it. In high school, note-taking is not a big deal; however, in college note-taking is the consequent basis of learning. To amplify my skills in the area of note-taking, I need to be an active listener, so I can retain the information better and review it later. I should summarize the notes and analyze them on a daily basis.

From this chapter I have learned a lot about myself and how to study. Before I never really understood the different ways I studied, I just knew what seemed to work. I now understand why those techniques were successful. Now that I am aware I am a mostly a visual learner, have an integrated brain, and have bodily-kinesthetic and logical-mathematical intelligence, I look forward to implementing the newly learned studying techniques with the old, making my college experience as successful as possible.
Nowadays there are many people who are going back to study, whether it be improving career possibilities or to change career paths. Therefore, people need to develop different types of study skills to help throughout their learning. In this essay I will be describing a few study skills that could be useful in the path to success during my own studies. I will also be explaining how I will be implementing them into my studies. Also, I will be identify two challenges that I may face during my studies and explaining a few steps that I will use to address them.
My current study habits are taking good notes in class, organizing my class material, Maintenance Rehearsal, studying with friends and Mass Practice. Taking good notes help because on the test the teacher not only going to ask what was on PowerPoint also what he said verbally during the lecture. Organizing the class material helps because I can recall the stuff better when it’s organized. I use maintenance rehearsal to memorize or learn information. I would keep repeating information to myself until I totally get it into my mind and it helps me sometimes not all the time. I study in my room and several distractions are present such as my phone, my desktop, and people talking while I’m trying to study. Studying with friends use to help me but now it’s not that helpful it’s just a waste of time. With these habits, my performance in test scores results in moderate performance because I wait for the last minute to study, like I said above one of my study habit is mass practice.
Study is necessary to succeed. Study is a good way to develop our mental. Study can increase our experience and knowledge. Study can also train our mind to understand the complexities of the subject chosen and then apply that understanding in practical terms. Through study, we can learn how to discipline ourselves to do something you don’t want to do, which will help us succeed in anything in our life.
