Succeeding professionally in life takes dedication, commitment, and understanding that as a professional you must constantly strive to grow. In this paper I will attempt to document my strengths, my challenges, and steps to overcome those challenges. I will also attempt to discuss my strategies for maintaining good physical and mental health. My Strengths Over the course of my professional career to date, I have realized that I have multiple strengths that I can be proud of. Some of these I have had throughout the course of my life, others grew as my time in the work-force grew. The first strength that I have is my innate ability to interface with people easily. This aids in many aspects of my professional plan as it assists in customer and client interaction, interoffice cooperation, and ability to lead a group or team. Having the ability to be a personable person makes me approachable, trustable, and easy to converse with. A second strength that I have is my ability to communicate effectively. This is a skill that I learned from school, however it grew into a strength as I practiced it and honed it throughout my professional career. Being an effective communicator allows one to convey a particular point or emotion with ease, often allowing others to understand more easily. It facilitates in discussion and electronic discourse, and allows for the ability to share information easily. The third strength that I have is what I would call integrity. I often consider integrity to be a broader term used to describe the ability to be honest, trust-worthy, and open. My belief is having integrity is also an integral part of being a “people-oriented” person. If a person feels they can trust you and that you have integrity, they are more... ... middle of paper ... ...hich I feel that I have a strong grasp on currently. In order to maintain mental health I have developed many outlets for varying aspects of life. Creativity is addressed through the use of music and singing. I can often find stress relief by visiting nature in any of the varying aspects, though I tend to prefer ocean beaches. As with the physical health, the key for mental health is moderation, as well as balance. If I maintain a moderate lifestyle, and balance social, physical, emotional, and professional life, I find that my mental health is quite easy to maintain. When things become out of balance by giving to heavily to one aspect over another, I find that stress becomes overpowering, which can lead to detrimental mental health. The main strategy for maintaining mental health, for me, is to maintain control over my life and keep things as balanced as possible.
Society's understanding of mental health has been revolutionized in recent decades. There has been increased research directed towards mental health, greater support for those who are affected, and a better understanding of it by the general public. In this current generation, mental illnesses are now viewed as serious conditions that need to be properly treated. Mental health is a vital component of an individual's well-being and how he or she is able to cope with the difficulties of life. When challenges arise, mental state is critical to overcoming those challenges.
My top strength is Individualization. To me, this strength means the ability to figure people out and understand the true uniqueness of others. With this strength, I am able to make things run smoothly and, at the same time, able to involve everyone in a group. The next strength I have is strategic, which enables me to find alternative ways to deal with problems. Therefore, I am also able to make things run smoothly and according to plan. In addition to these two strengths, my third strength is competitive which measures how successful I am compared against others. This is great because it helps me to endure and work hard in order to make it to the top. My fourth strength is restorative which is a talent that helps me to deal with any problems that may arise and ensure that things continue going according to plan. This strength means that I can endure and overcome any adversity that comes my way. My last strength is achiever. This is a strength that helps me to work hard and always be productive. Being an achiever maintains my ability to always keep going and to constantly feel the need to be productive.
This strength, in particular, influenced my decision to pursue social work as a career because cases will often be complex and I know that changes do not occur overnight and positive results only occur within time. I mastered the strength of being patient because growing up with an older sibling often requires you to learn patience. One aspect I realized was I don’t get frustrated easily and that is because I can be a patient person. The second strength I possess is being empathetic for example when a friend or family member shares something that may not be going to good in their life I like to pretend I am in their shoes, I like to provide empowerment and also be relatable, often times when one of my friends is upset over a situation I tend to get upset as well. I like to look at events through a sociological lens so I can better understand the situation. The last strength I possess is dedication, I feel this will influence my decision to pursue social work because I put my heart and soul into every aspect of my life, for example, I am quite dedicated to my studies, in High School I worked extremely hard to make it into the top ten of my graduating class and by being dedicated to my school work I ended up being number five. I am an extremely dedicated person because I do not like to fail, and I’ll always give it my all until I can no longer do so, I believe I would be a good social worker because I’d be dedicated to my client trying my hardest to provide the best of the
Mental health is being aware, accepting yourself, and striking a balance in all aspects of your life like social, spiritual, physical, economical, and mental (Association, 2001). Mental health can be described as our positive interactions with the context and events in our life, and having the ability to cope with life’s stressors. Mental health problems can begin at anytime during your life (CAMH, 2010). In fact anything can make it difficult for an individual’s ability to interact effectively, and may lead into a mental health problem (Association, 2001).
To give my personal philosophy of success I would first have to define “success”. Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. My success philosophy that I plan on implementing from now on is accepting personal responsibility for the good and bad choices I make. There will be time when I need to focus on school and worry less about my free time. If I have a test to take I have to study for that test to get a good grade and continuous good grades will help me pass the course. I can’t depend on anyone else to do my work for me I’m personally responsible for completing my assignments and turning them in on time. When the weekend comes around and all I do is procrastinate by telling myself I’ll study later. The smart thing to do about this situation would be to think wise and use my time-management strategies. I’ll always have time for myself, so sacrificing some free time now is well worth it. This helps me to be a creator and not the victim about things and keeping up with the self-management strategy. The success strategies that I will use will help my learning style, self-management and self-responsibility. Most people believe success is just having lots of money, cars, and women but I believe success is an individual sport and I have to be ready to play because the outcome of my performance is based on the work I put into it.
My best asset when communicating would be my ability to empathize with other people. I am very good at putting myself in others shoes and I think that makes me a better communicator. People appreciate when you feel for them, and feel cared
My leadership development plan will focus on the Mississippi National Guard. There are seven core values that are instilled in every member and Solider within the organization no matter their rank or status. There are seven core values that include:
According to the C.D.C ( Centers for Disease Control) the term mental health is commonly used in reference to mental illness. However, knowledge in the field has advanced to a level that completely separates the two terminologies. But even so mental health and mental illness are indeed in fact related, they represent different psychological state of mind with in a person. Mental health refers to our physical and emotional well being. Mental health is mainly all about how we behave, interact, and think. It c...
Another strength that I have is being an active listener. I listened to my clients and utilized a lot of micro skills. Insuring confidentiality was also a strength that I developed closer to the end of field placement. Conducting assessments and making sure I tracked and exhausted the topics was also a strength that I identified throughout field. Practicing from a strengths perspective was also another area I excelled at when working with my clients. A skill that I could work on is being more conscious of self in terms of body language during interviews, because at times I find myself with my arms cross which may give an indication that I’m closed off or
For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
My first strengths to communication are (responsibility for communication) the meaning of responsibility for communication means when someone knows how the person is feeling, and when someone sees them self in their shoes of any person they are talking with. For example, a woman starts to talk to the men about her having problems about her job. Once the woman talks to the mean about the situation the man starts to feel what the women is feeling and understands being in the same situation she is in. in this kind of situations ,I’m understandable when someone is going through the worst time and other times I can relate to these people I talk to. When I communicated when people are going through a rough time I communicate with them by giving asking them the question about something good that has to happen to them. My last strengths are (Flexible). The meaning of Flexible in a conversation is when the person has a good way to talk and thinking about what they are going to say before they talk. For example, a kid can ask the teacher a question, but the teacher seems to be busy. So a way the teacher would be Flexible is for the kid, is by thinking about what she is going to say, to organize her thoughts before she communicates. When it comes to a situation where someone talks to me, and I’m busy, or mad what I do is think before what I’m going to say before saying something I will
In my Learning team, my personal strength is having good people skills. I meet and get involved with new people everyday whether it be work or school related. I enjoy speaking, listening and giving input to my team members so that they are aware that they can count on me to participate as a team player in our Learning Team. Good people skills are very important in a group setting because of all the di...
My flexibility is certainly one of my greatest strengths. I can easily move between different working styles, depending on the scenario. I have no problem trying a new idea or concept out before deciding on a final direction. I am continually exploring different options. Being a “people-person” is one of my other strengths. My excellent interpersonal skills allow for me to bring ideas, thoughts and people together. I generate enthusiasm and excitement into tasks. I feel comfortable and confident talking to others about anything that I have knowledge of.
