South Korean Education Versus American Education

Education has solved many social problems and it has also helped develop societies. From this, we can say that education reflects the society, and it is one of the matters of concern in many countries. In South Korea, all of the students take education very seriously, and the schools are also very strict; While American education system gives students a lot of freedom. It is no wonder that there is no country that shares their education system with other countries because they have their own culture and customs. These days many students from foreign countries are coming to the United States as an exchange student to share their culture and study. I also came from South Korea as international students in an American college. I found that the American education system and the South Korean education system have many differences. However, since I have been studying in America for a couple of years, I think that is the American educational system would adapt certain aspects of the South Korean educational system, American students could benefit greatly. From this experience I have discovered that, the primary difference between the Korean education and American education; school educational system, parents’ passion for their children’s education, and student’s daily schedule.
First, the South Korean schools are very strict; otherwise the American schools system’s major point is freedom. For example, the Korean schools are taking control of student’s freedom, which means that the schools set the student’s daily schedule. Most of the classes include sciences and liberal arts, but are limited on sports or any other activities such as art, music and so on. South Korea has lack of underground resources, so they have to compete with other countries with knowledge. This is one of the reasons why South Koreans have so much passion for education. The most important thing that Americans should learn from South Korean students in their high passion for education. Although the two countries different in many education systems or values, both of them lay great emphasis on education for the student’s future. Therefore, if we consider the strong points of each country’s education, it would be near to the best education. And as I said earlier, if the American educational system adapted certain aspects of the South Korean educational system, American students could benefit greatly.
