I will be discussing about hope and prayer and the definitions, application of both to our lives, and how we need both hope and prayer in our lives. When we read scripture, it talks about how that hope itself is missing from that of a prayer life. God wants us to cling to the cross and to Him through prayer, but if we are praying fervently for something then trust follows with that of faith and hope. I know for some people praying isn’t a priority, they may be fearful, or not believe that God will answer their prayers. If we give up ourselves through giving our entire life to Him, we then develop a personal relationship with God Himself, while are learning to experience the joy and peace that comes with knowing Him. Through this, it develops …show more content…
God wants us to seek His face and get on our knees in prayer. God doesn’t always give us what we want but always want we need for he has a plan and purpose for our lives to glorify him in everything. God wants our prayers to be genuine towards him and wants us to spend time with him in His word and through prayer to grow in our relationship with Him. In the book of 2 Chronicles, it says, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14, …show more content…
Prayer is also a way of talking to God on behalf of others that in a way are unable to speak with due to emotional things or due to being upset where they need their heart softened maybe. Prayer is used as way of talking to God in asking for forgiveness, praising Him, getting close to Him, asking for help and guidance, healing, and some others. There no thing as praying too much, but one needs to pray fervently whether it be someone who is lost, needs a miracle, healing, and maybe guidance. It needs to be genuine in the communication with Him.
Practical application: In the way of practical application of prayer is a way of applying the act of prayer in our daily lives. God wants us to make prayer our priority and make any effort to build our lives around God and how we live according to God word. Just as we make an effort to build a relationship with our best friend is the way God wants us to put forth our effort to build and have a personal/intimate relationship.
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they
...ed. The psalmist said, “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.” The psalmist remains caught between despair and hope.
The title of the Psalm is “Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies” and although most issues in life aren’t as dramatic as described in the Psalm although at the time of the event it may seem as bad. Some examples I have thought about are a Death in the family, a breakup with a loved one, and when you wished you wouldn’t have done something you regret. In these times I have asked God myself if he/she could correct the problem or make it go away and I would do anything (at the time) if he could make it happen and sometime the requests were pretty unreasonable. I would even ask, if I followed the laws of the Lord and I believed in him how could the situation happen? If God loves me he/she would get me out of the situation?
My father and mother would always instruct me how to pray by reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Every morning we would go in my parents’ bedroom, get on our knees and begin to pray. This devotional time was spent every morning as soon as we got out of bed. In fact, if we were asleep we were awakening to begin our daily devotion. I remember, my father would begin the prayer and each of us had to lead a portion of the ongoing prayer. My parents always instilled in me that prayer was the key to anything that I wanted to accomplish in life. However, after I prayed, I needed to believe that the work was already accomplished. Growing up in my environment, I could not understand as a child why they would wake me out of the bed in order for to come and pray. Today, I can honestly say I appreciate my parents for showing me the value of prayer. I can relate to the topic of the use of prayer because of a situation which transpired in my life approximately fifteen years ago. I have experienced the miraculous power and the value of prayer. My father was the manager and lead singer of a gospel group. The group would rehearse every Tuesday night with the singers and the musicians which consisted of approx ten members. On this particular Tuesday night after rehearsal, he complained of a slight headache. He didn’t think much more about the headache because he thought he just needed some rest after a long day at
The cornerstone of any relationship with someone is the ideal of grace and mercy. When grace is absent, dealing with people becomes difficult we develop issues with trust. Grace involves hoping that God is listening and will answer all prayers in ways according to His will. Digging into the cross of hope and prayer, this paper discusses the theological definition, biblical foundation, and practical application in order to identify how the two connect. These principles have helped me learn what it means to be a Christian.
As my friend poured her heart out to me and ask questions I didn't really have answers to, as I sat there listening: I prayed. I prayed for my friend. That God would guide her and comfort her. I asked God to give me the words to say to bring encouragement and comfort to her.
Our soldiers fight in Iraq and numerous hostages have been slaughtered. Society can hope this devastating situation can get better or they may wallow in sadness and anger. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope” (Menninger, 1960, p. 14). The powerful idea of hope can bring the society together by joining forces and supporting each other with the notion of a better tomorrow and teaching our children to be good to one another. Teachers have the ability to instill the right amount of hope to the student, otherwise, too much hope leads to disaster and too little leads to despair (Menninger, 1960). Hope in other cultures, such as in a Dominican Republic rural village view hope as a force that develops out of their faith in God and is acquired by working for the desired goal (Holt, 2000).
First thing first, I think this could not happen in reality. When people are praying, the underlying assumption is that this prayer may be actualised, so the result of the prayer would definitely have influence on the person’s attitude towards God. Maybe the influence is not big enough to make a change, but we should not disregard it. I am not going to deny that it is possible Tom could feel closer to God after prayer, but it is only a byproduct of the prayer. The main focus of Tom is alway to actualise his goal. Maybe the byproduct would have some influence on the relation between Tom and God. After Tom sees the result of his prayer, I believe this influence is largely undermined or even forgot, because Tom’s focus has never be in this byproduct.
I agree with Camp’s discussion on prayer because, as the title of the chapter it self says, it demonstrates how Christian disciples trust in God instead of flawed human calculations of how things will turn out. Prayer also helps make us obedient to God’s will, especially when used in a context similar to “The Lord’s Prayer”, where we as Christians ask the Lord to fulfill His will on earth and provide for our daily needs as we take up our cross on a daily basis to help establish His coming
In other words, the Lord’s Prayer is what He taught all Christians how pray; specifically, this is the prayer that He taught His disciples. Also, the meaning of this prayer is that the Father’s name (the name of Jesus Christ) has not been hallowed, but instead, it has been profaned, and that now is the time for his name to be hallowed.
Prayer is an intimate one on one conversation with the almighty, wonderful God that you are having a relationship with. It is a special time and you are going before God who is above all.
Prayers are not recipes or formulae, they are love poems. They need not be factual, but they must be true.
Do you like to talk out your problems with a friend? Do you like to hear other people’s problems? Why do we always need to share our problems with someone? The truth is, humans are weak. We’ve always known that we can’t live by ourselves. So, it’s not a question that we need to share our burdens with someone else. We want someone to feel what we’re going through. And we’re hoping that that friend of ours has a way out of it, right? Whatever it takes, we want our problems to be solved. Unfortunately, it’s not every time can we find someone who wants to hear our problems L. Well, that’s the way humans are. We’re not perfect. But our Father in heaven is. He will faithfully listen to everything we’ve got on our minds. He is the only one who has the way, the truth, and the life. Of course, He knows how to solve our problems and He will help us with them. Now, doesn’t that sound good? Well, don’t you want to learn to hear God’s voice? The question is…how does He talk to us? Here are a few ways:
... Christ is our savior. It is by sin that we face difficulties in being faithful Christians but only through Christ that we grow spiritually. Also we can see the importance of having faith in the field of work and the power of prayers that can assist you in your life as a messenger of God and how you develop yourself to know and be ready for the second life that is eternal life. Anfenson-Vance (1988) states that there is nothing in this world that we can do alone but with God we can do anything. Therefore it is important to converse with God in prayer and by faith to successfully overcome our burdens. So from there we can learn how important to have faith in us as young people. Prayer is one of the main concepts of faith and without prayer you cannot converse with God and share with him the work you did and the stress you face in your life as a servant of God.
...st always pray to God with such great and deep belief that everything we ask for, He will give to us and we will receive, of course if it is reasonable. Putting every single ounce of faith and belief that we have installed in our mind, body, and soul into God is the state we should always pray in. Making your requests to God specific and making them known to Him is absolutely crucial.
