Introduction
This security plan will deal with the risk associated with massive open online courses (MOOCs.) Several security issues are involved with MOOCs. By their very definition MOOCs are course open and free, (Herold,2013) thus making them a security risk from outside the district but also open to abuse from within the network framework.
MOOCs generally free and open to the public at large, (Herold, 2013) this raises many concerns about data breaching and untested resources on the district network. Some of the network concerns that need to be address are overburdening the network and content filtering.
MOOCs, especially at the K-12 level, an evolving concept, this security plan evaluates the district acceptable use policy to evaluate the district policies for asynchronous tools. This plan also looks at what policies apply to digital content and students taking any online courses, particularly MOOCs.
Acceptable Use Policy
In the fall of 2013 Pleasanton ISD revised it acceptable use policy and retitled it a responsible use policy. This was done to reflect the newly adopted Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy.
As part of the reversion several things were changed in the RUP. Chief among these revisions was allowing more student access to online content. Specifically, granulated filtering gradually allows more access to the network, as students get older. When discussing MOOCs and online course this becomes important because of the open nature of both types of learning.
Social networking are vital to MOOCs and the current district RUP would need to be rework to allow students to access these resources at the very least at the high school level.(New,2013)

The biggest obstacle to implementing MOOCs and online courses is the age of the current network. Implementation of these courses would tax the network beyond its current capacity.
Though the restriction of the RUP can be easily overcome until the current network and bandwidth issues are addressed MOOCS and online course cannot be implemented at PISD.

In Laura Pappano’s essay, “The Year of the MOOC”, she describes a MOOC, or a Massive Open Online Course, an online course to build a higher education for people around the world. After examining “Chunky Peanut Butter”, by James Gregory, I am convinced he’s the best college applicant to attend a MOOC because he’s flexible and can work with anyone, he’s active in the community and he never gives up.
Also, implement patch management and keep up to date with anti-malware and anti-spyware updates. This helps in the summarization of the possible threats the College can face in certain scenarios and explains how to protect against them.
From the first email being composed and sent in 1971 to the creation of Facebook in 1994, online communication strategies in higher education has changed tremendously (Bennett, 2013). There are increasing social channels to reach more diverse and widespread populations, and the vast array of internet-based tools continues to grow (Cruz, 2012). Social media has evolved into networks of knowledgeable people, working across time and space to make informed decisions and solve intricate problems (Bingham & Conner, 2010). Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, blogs and forums are all examples of social media tools that provide ways to engage with other people online and form long-term or short-term relationships (Fouts, 2009). According to a study done at Hardin-Simmons University, 92 percent of colleges are using social media in concurrence with their official websites (Greenwood, 2012). In order stay abreast of the shifting demographics of students, employees, alumni and other constituencies, leaders in higher education must readjust marketing strategies and traditional communication approaches through the utilization of social media.

Many people think online education can be more expensive than a traditional school setting. Previous generations did not have the option for online learning experience, so why should we start now? An interesting point about online education is that LeBaron (2010) states, “The largest school in the U.S. is the University of Phoenix Online, with a whopping 380,232 students. That’s over 5x more than the largest public school, Arizona State University, which has 68,064 students” (para. 7). Despite the cost effectiveness, distance education is becoming the educational model of the future.
definitely going to be a thing of the past, Online education will continue to be asynchronous, free
The implementation of online learning in many universities has proven to be a successful method of course delivery (Regan, Evmenova, Baker, Jerome, Spencer, Lawson, & Werner, 2012). Dickson-Dean, Galyen, and Moore (2011) proposed that online learning can promote successful learning opportunities for students as well as rewarding benefits for all educational stakeholders. Factors that contribute to the success of online learning include, but are not limited to, flexibility and accessibility, cost reduction, increased retention, and varied learning opportunities (Neely & Tucker, 2010). Online learning and associated technology is becoming increasingly adaptable and can be used to meet the educational needs of all students while providing opportunities for differentiated instruction (Krishnakumar & Kumar, 2011). Online learning provides both students and instructors with opportun...
