America is said to be one of the most advanced countries in the world. But the people living in it are far from advanced. Millions of Americans are not happy, they either become depressed because of material things, become addicted to substances you receive for being crazy, or are forced to be classified as insane or ‘special’. Over the course of 12 months, Americans have a 27% chance of having some sort of ‘mental disorder’ whether it is a personality disorder, eating disorder, anxiety disorder, and/or mood disorder. That is approximately 85 million Americans suffering in one year. This statistic is extremely high compared to other countries. Israel’s mental disorder percentage over the course of 12 months is only 6 percent, that’s over 4 times less than Americas in a country that not nearly as industrialized or know for high-class living. Doesn’t that make people wonder why that is or how that came to be? One of the most bothersome mental disorders in America is ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It ‘affects’ about 8.5% of children in the United States according to the national center for disease control and prevention website, which is about 6.2 million children affected at any given time. One of the reasons that so many American children are diagnosed with ADHD is because the system has a huge loop hole so that the schools these children are enrolled in can make money. Teachers must fill out a few pages of paperwork writing down observed behaviors and turn it into the school counselor who then turns it into the child’s doctor. For every child diagnosed with any mental disorder the school receives at least $400 per year, and since ADHD is the easiest to care for the child and diagnose it is the most common. What happens when the protagonist, Homer, loses his awareness of a certain personal responsibility to maintain self-control? Homer's actions increasingly make him act foolishly, internally and externally. Also, how does Homer return to a sense of sanity and responsibility? To a degree, I would say that he does. At first, Homer's control over himself seems strong; he is only mildly aware of tempting situations. The reader begins to notice, however, that Homer's mind is still easily swayed by that

role in the game “Far Cry 3” as the main character, Jason Brody, is put into a new environment where he has to rapidly grow to protect the ones he loves, but his sanity is constantly being attacked. There are multiple theories surrounding this game and the topics of insanity, but this will deal with Jason slowly losing himself and his sanity to the island and rejecting this theory. In the land of the insane, the only way to survive is to adapt. Far Cry starts off by solidifying the fact that the Jason
This assertion from Macbeth paves the path for his future misdeeds. Lady Macbeth is concerned by her husband’s announcement and responds with, “You lack the season of all natures, sleep” (3.4.141). Lady Macbeth believes that her husband has lost his sanity. She no longer supports Macbeth’s murderous plans, and resents his new impulsivity. Following this conversation, Macbeth continues to kill harmless people, such as Macduff’s wife and children. He implies that he will no longer think about his actions
Schizophrenia is not an easy disease to pinpoint exactly what and why side effects occur, or even what causes the disease to begin with. In many situations people start to lose sanity and aren't fully aware of the decisions they’re making. Along with many other things that have been associated with the illness, schizophrenia causes mental and emotional impairment. Schizophrenia has been studied and researched, but even with the many people and scenarios looked into, we still don't have the illness
Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway In Jacob's Room, the novel preceding Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf works with many of the same themes she later expands upon in Mrs. Dalloway. To Mrs. Dalloway, she added the theme of insanity. As Woolf stated, "I adumbrate here a study of insanity and suicide; the world seen by the sane and the insane side by side." However, even the theme that would lead Woolf to create a double for Clarissa Dalloway can be viewed as a progression of other similar ideas cultivated
drugged, and now a new wave say he was trying to commit suicide. This last theory is based on the fact that on November 5, 1848, he tried his hand in committing suicide with an overdose of Laudanum; an opium substitute. Poe is not a stranger to substance abuse and is more often found in gambling debts. He was an introverted character that seemed to have close to a few friends. Hamlet’s “To be, or not to be” soliloquy is the most famous of all the soliloquies in the play because it is a turning point for Hamlet in the play. Suddenly the audience recognizes that Hamlet’s sanity is rapidly unraveling. The subject of this soliloquy is about suicide and essentially, Hamlet’s choice between life and death. Hamlet has gotten to point in the play where he can barely see a point to living anymore, an all time low for the once heroic character. Hamlet weighs the benefits to continuing
taught radical politics by his mother, which helped him develop ideas about topics he would later use in his many works. At an early age, Tupac had seen the injustices of the real world. His mother was a former Black Panther activist who turned to substance abuse during Tupac’s childhood. Aside from that, he and his mother also moved many times while they lived together in New York City. While Tupac was in Baltimore, he discovered rap; not long after, he and his mother moved to the West Coast where
that Linda was addicted to this drug and she might have been in fact suffering from withdrawal syndrome. Withdrawal syndrome is an abrupt discontinuation of a particular substance that affects the normal functions of the brain. The syndrome is diagnosed by a sudden burst of physiological activity which was suppressed by the substance that was used. In this case Linda was suffering from depression due to a lack of a resource she found at
distract and trick his enemies into doing as he pleases. The film version attempts to show this, but in an environment that is very much different than the middle ages. Just as in most film adaptations, Hamlet on screen is mostly vague, but with enough substance to be mildly entertaining, and a good start for individuals who want to start reading Shakespeare, but are afraid that they won?t understand, or will be caught off guard by the language. This is why the modern version of Hamlet is a very appropriate
in high state. But, according to Bradley, it is clearly much more than this as 'no amount of calamity which merely befell a man, descending from the clouds like lightening, or stealing from the darkness like pestilence', could alone provide the substance of its glory. These calamities do not simply happen and they are not sent from God, they proceed from the main character/s in a play. In this case it is Lear in the main plot and a combination of Gloucester and Edmund in the subplot, it provides
