When she was 15, she fell in love with a boy, who spilled d a drink on her at a party. “I’m so sorry about that … my name’s Zand by the way,” he said. “Oh wow, it’s ok … and I’m Lola” she replied. “So nice to meet you, see you around” he said and we stared at each other for a while and then continued on. Lola had been a sophomore in high school, and she had already been through so much emotional trauma in the first two years then she thought she would ever have to deal with. She was less like Jay Z when he says “I’ve got 99 problems, but a bitch ain’t one” and more like Kid Cudi when he says “I’ve got 99 problems, and they all bitches.” Until she met Zand, she was going through something with another boy that she never thought she could get over. This boy’s name was Taylor, and he was a true artist when it came to manipulating girls. Tormented by parental issues, he was numb to feelings. So, although he made me feel like he cared about her, she knew he couldn’t because he didn’t know how to. Although she still loved him, when she met Zand, there was an immediate connection between them. His best friend tried to hook them up that nigh at the party. She didn’t know much about him and she got nervous, so she didn't go for it. Immediately she regretted her decision, because she thought she’d never see him again. Lola went to preparatory school, the school Zand used to go to before he switched to a different private school. Even though she thought that she would never see him again, she told her best friend Jen about him. Jen was medium height, brown hair and eyes, not too special at first glance, seemed self-conscious, and very about keeping her shape that was a perfect, petit hourglass figure. Looks wise, besides weighing about twen... ... middle of paper ... ...towards her other roommates for knowing how she felt about him, but not trying to stop what would occur. She went to the balcony and felt the drizzle, earth’s tears on her skin. It was as if Mother Nature was projecting unto the earth all she had been feeling. They got home from break a few days after. It was April, and time to get back to school. Lola was sick and she felt like garbage, but she went anyways. She got to the lunchroom and sat with her group of friends. “Did you know she hooked up with him??? Yeah, several times I heard. Someone told me they did the deed but I’m not sure. That’s, like, so rude. I thought she knew you’ve like loved him since the end of the tenth grade. What kind of friend does that?” Gabby said. She continued to speak about the subject while Lola asked herself the same questions as Gabby had asked her. But she already knew the answer.
Rena Cohen had returned from camp high-spirited, anticipating her long-awaited senior year of high school. With only two days left to catch up with her friends, Rena called Malka Koenig and Lizzy Zimmerman and set up to see them at Cafe Bonjour. She couldn’t wait to hear how Malka enjoyed her lessons in computer programming and how Lizzy enjoyed her stay in camp. At the cafe, Rena realized something was wrong. Lizzy and Malka looked uncomfortable around each other and after just a few minutes, Malka got up and walked out. Lizzy refused to tell Rena what was wrong, so Rena got up and left too. Their silence baffled her and she felt lost in the crowd; by twelfth even the loners had found their place in the grade. Malka became close friends with Tzipporah since they were both G.O. heads. Lizzy became friends with a girl named Riva. One day Malka approached Rena and told her she wanted to tell ...

Melina’s trauma shapes her identity. For example, she was raped, and has not been the same since. “I want to grab her by the neck and shake her and scream her her to stop treating me like dirt” (Anderson 21). Consequently, Melinda has been acting out and has not been herself. She has been skipping school, not worrying about her grades, and constantly thinking of what others think of her.
interesting to me that the more her mother got sick, the more Lola lashed out. It as if she was no longer feared her mother; she instead wanted to hurt her. Perhaps Lola took this callous approach after all the years of abuse. The author demonstrates through the change of Lola’s appearance; she dyes and shaves her hair, takes on a more “punk rock” look and these changes send her mother into a rage, She tries to force Lola to wear her wig; however, Lola sets it on fire. Although these changes were physical, I believe the author used them to show us that Lola wanted to be the opposite of what her mother wanted her to be.

I was walking home from school with my best friend Allie. We live in Sanibel Island, Florida. It’s beautiful there. There are enviously beautiful white sand beaches and the water is the perfect color of turquoise. Scratchy palm trees and smooth seashells are scattered everywhere. It always smells like tropical fruits. And because we walk home along the beach our walk home always has the best sights you will ever see.
High school sophomore, Samantha Baker woke up on the morning of her sixteenth birthday, hoping for an overnight transformation. After being felt up by Grandmother Baker, Samantha deals with the ridicule and torment of her annoying little brother and takes the bus to school. The friend’s conversation somehow got on the subject of love (Carver 330). Mel thinks that “real love was nothing less than spiritual love” (Carver 330). Terri said that her ex “loved her so much he tried to kill her” (Carver 330). Nick and Laura do not really voice their opinions on the subject, instead show it through small gestures (Carver 333). The gestures show that love cannot be explained, but that it can be shown. The conflict of the story goes along with the plot. The friends all disagree on the meaning of love, and no one is able to explain or prove what love truly
I came to the conclusion that Langston was writing about te struggle to freedom for blacs. Lanston Hughes wrote about racism often in his poems, and this particular poem seems to follow that pattern. Hughes gives the feeling of loneliness and dismay at the fact that he is not considered equal to white people. The poem represents the struggle for freedom and to be considered equal. The speaker conveys a feeling of sadness and loneliness in the tone of their voice, as stated in the opening sentence of the poem.
It was believed from the beginning that Hawai’i is a place for paradise; where rest and relaxation can be found more than most places. It is ranked as the most peaceful place in the world. Hawai’i is alive now because of tourism and almost, if not all the residents of Hawai’i know about how the US illegally annexed Hawai’i by overthrowing their Queen. Many still stand with their belief that Hawaii should never be a part of the US because as people come to Hawaii, it is no longer the place that they would imagine it to be. Hawai’i is no longer a place to find solace but it is now a playground for the military.
"Hello." The girl spoke softly, and couldn't hold his gaze as he stepped into the room, after having appraised her from
I like that in the first chapter, “Argument,” there was a persuasive example. It was about Third World workers, which is often a touchy subject. The way the author put together his argument it helped see what I should do with my argument. This chapter had a good general layout guide that I will use as a reference for my next paper. I like how the chapters are set up in this book, they use paragraphs with bolded titles. It makes it easier to stay on topic, and get the information that is presented to me. We have already been through logical fallacies, so that was a bit tedious. The part called, “Editing for Common Errors in Arguments,” had a lot of common sense errors, that I think most people do repeatedly even after being notified about them, for example, comma mistakes.
She seemed like a whole new girl. “Bullying At School” mentions that a simple hello or smile can change a person’s life, and in this moment, I felt the change in her attitude, personality, and overall presence (2). It seemed that the simplest acts I did seemed to make a world of difference to her. Graduation day, 2015, I sat in my chair watching all of my friends prepare to walk the stage. As the ceremony began, I saw the girl from that day climb the stairs to the stage and begin to speak. She was our Valedictorian. She began, “Dear fellow graduates. I can’t call you my friends because most of you do not even know I exist. My name is Sam Carter. I am your below average student that didn’t fit in like the rest of you. I had one friend and you know who you are. I was gratefully introduced to a friend earlier this year in a crucial time of my life. Everything was piling up and I was being bullied at school. She came into my life at just the perfect time and saved me. The day she helped me pick up my books and stood up for me in the hallway before class was the day that I was going home to end it. My life meant nothing to anyone. I had my goodbye letter written out, the rope in my room, and had my goodbyes said and that day, she showed me that I wasn’t alone and that someone cared for me. The simple things you did for me changed my view on this world. You saved my life. As I
