The “Digital Divide” is a buzz phrase heard today in North America. It refers to the growing divide between people who have and do not have access to information specifically via the internet. There are various forms of digital divides but the one that is the most despair is the global digital divide between industrialized countries and developing nations. Information technology is the application of computers and telecommunication equipment to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data. This includes distributing and manufacturing information. This use of technology can be applied in the workforce, the educational system, and social life. Centuries ago, people did not have the means of technology that we have now. Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for his invention of the telephone in 1876. The first fully functioning computer was developed from 1936- 1938 by Konrad Zuse in his parent’s living room. The Internet has been developing since the 1950’s. Things are still being added to the Internet, the databases are surging with information. We live in a world where we are surrounded
Informational technology has helped so many people keep in touch with others, interact with others through social networking, help employees with work or help employers figure out whom their hiring. So how could informational technology help me? In plenty of ways, then not. One being through social, educational, and another being professional. So having all of this technology might be a bit overwhelming, but overall it is helpful to almost everyone. This newer technology today can help so many people with so many different things whether it be talking to your best friend, skyping with your future boss about your future career, spending over eight hours doing research on a paper that’s due in less than twenty-four hours away or just sitting on your computer for hours watching cat videos on the internet. It’s all how you spend and use your time on the internet.
Now for computers in the schools, I feel we will soon have no books and all work will be done on computers. Even homework will be done on the internet and e-mailed to the teacher. Children will be taught about computers at a younger and younger age. This in turn will make the younger generations more and more skilled in electronics and understanding how they work. This will have a very large impact on they way projects and or work is viewed.

The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format, possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality; all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be duplicated, changed, or processed by a computer in a fraction of the time that it would take a human brain. This information can than be beamed across the globe through series of cables and satellites, to any specific location, almost immediately.
