As the years progress and technology advances, encounters like the previous one becoming more and more scarce. The relationships have become less physically active, and more digitally ordered. Although many parents are trying to preserve the bonds of physical contact and inter-personal discussion, the youth of today are just too embedded in the modern norms. The start of this disconnect came with the start of technology, especially with the invention of the television, which now teaches, inspires, and practically baby-sits children.
As of 2007, ninety nine percent of households in the United States have at least one television, and the average American watches more than four hours of TV each day (Herr). This comes to a total of twenty-eight hours per week, and collectively, a rough 250 billion hours of television per year. Of these statistics, children have grown to become the leading factor in how much TV is on during the day. Studies have shown that children have spent about 400 more hours watching television than they spend in school overall. The same studies have also shown that children spend an estimated 1700 minutes watching television per week, when they only have about three and a half minutes worth of conversation with their parents. That means that for every minute a child talks with their parent, they watch 480 minutes worth of ...

...ever growing, and if un-dealt with, can lead to a potentially dangerous future. The influences are not explained, the physicality of being outside is unmet, and the developing of priority is ultimately sacrificed for the worst. The only way for this to improve even the slightest, is for parents to identify and address the problem before it comes, and teach children the importance, or less importance of television.

It may be hard to admit, but television has become an intricate part of our everyday lives. People children often find themselves sitting in front of the television screen for a longer period of time than before and this has evolved immensely over the past few years. In this article, “The Trouble with Television,” by the author Marie Winn, mentions that addiction of television is negative effects on children and families. It keeps the families from doing other things and it’s a hidden competitor for all other activities. Television takes place of play and on top of that kids who watch a lot of television grow uncivilized. Also, the author mentioned that televisions are less resourceful for children and have negative effects on children’s school achievement and on physical fitness. Although there are so many other types of addictions but the author Marie Winn’s points of argument of watching television is a serious addiction that our children and families have negative effects.
Author also point out television undermines the family. Most parents are now relying on outside sources such...
In “Television Harms Children”, Ann Vorisek White claims that the intellectual and cognitive development of children who frequently watch television is threatened. To support this claim, she points to the findings that “the more television children watch, the weaker their language skills and imaginations” (White, 2006). Before the brain fully matures around age 12, it is in the stage of rapid development. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) “recommends that children under the age of two not watch TV or videos, and that older children watch only one to two hours per day of nonviolent, educational TV” (White, 2006). A study from the AAP (as cited in White, 2006) found that the average American child watches four hours of television every day. Considering "expression and reasoning are not automatic" abilities, young children who routinely watch television eventually become "passive and nonverbal" to stimuli in their environment (White, 2006). Since the normality of curiosity and imaginations of young children are the foundation of how they learn, remaining passive for extended periods of time affects their intellectual and moral development.
The impact that television has on society is apparent through the amount of television programs that have been created since its inception. The television set has become a stable form of entertainment for families across the nation. The information we received from it over the years has shaped our culture immensely. Since its inception, gathering around the television set has become a common practice for families to spend time together. The amount of time people spend watching television has progressively increased year after year. Today’s culture is obsessed with positioning itself in front of a television set motionlessly for countless hours every day. Sitting in front of the television is a daily practice routine for many people. After work, school, or dinner, people spend their remaining hours before bed not socializing with each other but instead watching their favorite television programs. In today’s culture family time primarily consists of time spent indulging in food and time spent in front of a television set. In the past many homes only had a single television set which was usually placed in the living room. Today it would be a rare occurrence to find any home with just one television set inside the house. Television is heavily relied upon in today’s culture to the point where people of society can’t go even a single day without switching on a television set. Instead of reading a newspaper to keep up with current trends, entertainment, or news, people rely upon a television to relay that type of information. People rely heavily upon the television set that it has affected the way people socialize with one another. Even the children of today aren’t invulnerable to the effects of the television pandemic. Televisions were ...

Did you know that more than 70 percent of children ages 8-18 have a T.V. in their bedroom? Children ages 5-16 spend an average of six and a half hours in front of a screen every day while in 1995; children only spent an average of three hours watching T.V. It has become so popular because of new technology and increase in T.V. production. According to geek.com, 3 Samsung T.V. are being sold every three seconds! But children should not watch more than 6 hours of T.V. a day because it has many negative effects, like poor eyesight and dizziness, negative attitudes, and weight gain, especially in children.
Consistently, everywhere, in this century there seems to be some form of a TV screen. These screens appear in restaurants, schools, at work, at home, and quite possibly more. What is forgotten in society is how that screen may affect the lives of the children in this modern world. When children are constantly watching a television screen there may be consequences to their health and education. Most parents do not have the ability to control what is shown on TV. Many programs disagreeably display marathons after school and during holidays. Supposedly, adult shows are only showed late at night, but with movies becoming more and more explicit, even bed time can’t stop the most determined child. Children’s problems in education and health are a direct result of the amount of TV watched.
The prologue was written after the entire poem was composed. The poem begins with a praise to the “Strong Son of God” (Rundle). Since people have never seen God’s face, there is no proof of his existence and he can only be reached through humanity’s faith. The speaker characterizes the sun and moon “these orbs or light and shade” (Rundle), to God, and recognizes God as the creator of life and death in humans and animals. The speaker cannot comprehend why he was created, but he believ...

Television is something that is easily accessible for any child. I can agree with Postman when he stated that the transformation of childhood was when literacy disappeared, education disappeared, shame disappeared and essentially childhood disappeared. Though, he predicted all of this in the 90’s, I see it happening every day. The culture of our current generation of children has completely changed from when I was a child and the young are more tech-savvy than generations before (Postman, 1994).
should be censored to an extent, yet they do not see the significant effect that regular television shows really have on their children. As a child grows, more and more statistics are proving that they are being exposed to too many shows that should be censored. Many studies have concluded that young children are most affected by what they see on television (Dritz, Russel 1996). For example, a child that watches a cartoon with a lot
The pros of television for children’s development are that it helps children’s cognitive development, it helps children to explore new things such as animals and places, and lastly it helps children’s behavior. However, there are also disadvantages of television for children. These disadvantages are that children become sedentary, become less involved with real life activities, and finally children become uncreative. However, people need to understand that the ones responsible for making appropriate use of television for children are the parents. Parents should always take in account if the television programs that are in the television are appropriate for children or not. They need to understand that television can be a great advantage to children’s development if the hours are limited for the children, but it can also be a great disadvantage for children if the hours are not limited. They have the responsibility to balance every aspect of children’s lives. Television is not the only way in which children can learn new things but it is of great
In United States, “Children watch 4 hours of television every day, 28 hours a week and, sometimes, 10 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Before their 18th birthday, children may view 25,000 hours of television” (Ni Chang 85). Nowadays, technology has been developed and used in many different ways. Many children spend large amount of time on IPad, smart phone, and computer. Clearly, television has played an important role in most of the younger age group’s life. As a parent, one of the biggest concerns about the influence that television has on the children is that they tend to become aggressive while they watch a lot of violent program. Communicating and engaging with one and other is limited because television has destroyed communication among family and removed children from the social interaction. Moreover, watching a lot of TV also contributes child obesity. Overall, television is harmful for children in their early development because it is not only going to delay their brain development, but also increase their aggressive behavior, and cause child obesity in a long term period.
