Registered Nurse (RN) “Registered nurses treat patients and help prevent disease, educate patients and the public about various medical conditions and health issues, and provide advice and emotional support to patients’ family members both physically and mentally.”(Registered). It is important for the individual going into this occupation to search out the pros and cons of the different areas of nursing. Sometimes gender plays a part in choosing the specific area of an RN. For instance, the strength of males is needed in areas of physical therapy. While the gentle attributes of women are needed in the care of babies. “A nurse must like people and want to help them, and must also have self-reliance and good judgment, patience, honesty, responsibility, and ability to work easily with others.”(Jacobi). The occupation of a registered nurse includes many advantages such as having the ability to assist your family in medical needs, the salary is attractive and above the average scale, and it offers great job security. The first advantage of being a registered nurse is you have the great ability to assist your family in medical needs. Whatever happens to a family member, you’ll know what to do right away in just about any case. There could be a possibility where somebody could have a chance of dieing right away, you would have that ability to save their life. RNs are very knowledgeable and have a good education on how to live a healthy life that they could share with their family and have a good, healthy lifestyle. When looking at the roles for Licensed Vocational Nurses and Registered Nurses one might notice the core of all nursing is the same. But upon further investigation, the licensing structure makes for a well-oiled machine in the mechanisms of patient healthcare. The following pages will compare and contrast the various roles of the Licensed Vocational Nurse and the Registered Nurse, as well as legal obligations and limits.

Define Nursing Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nurses who have received graduate-level nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. Nurse Practitioners are able to specialize in a particular area, such as family and adult practice, pediatrics, and women’s health; and refer patients to other specialists when necessary. Some nurse practitioners work under the supervision of a physician while others run their own practices.

There is a shortage of all health care professions throughout the United States. One shortage in particular that society should be very concerned about is the shortage of Registered Nurses. Registered Nurses make up the single largest healthcare profession in the United States. A registered nurse is a vital healthcare professional that has earned a two or four year degree and has the upper-most responsibility in providing direct patient care and staff management in a hospital or other treatment facilities (Registered Nurse (RN) Degree and Career Overview., 2009). This shortage issue is imperative because RN's affect everyone sometime in their lifetime. Nurses serve groups, families and individuals to foster health and prevent disease.
This is a research paper conducted on the very highly pursuited field of nursing. Nursing is a profession in the healthcare field that focuses or assisting others. Not to mention, nurses are heroes because of the many lives they save every day. This is an example that one doesn’t need tights or a cape to be a hero. Never the less, there are many reasons one may want to become nurse. Some of those reasons may be for personal gain or the greater good. This paper is aimed at discussing the three main types of nursing, their daily duties, education, certification, salary, as well as job outlook. There are three types of nursing, including registered practical nurses, registered nurses and nurse practitioners. Registered practical nurses (RPN) in many countries are referred to as nurses who provide care to individuals who are injured, disabled, sick or convalescent. According to Duchscher & Boychuk (1109), most registered practical nurses are generalists and mainly work in different health care areas, while some work in specialized settings including in-home care as well as nursing homes.
Most people question whether to go into a career in the medical field, but what really drew my attention to the profession of a Registered Nurse is the fact that they help people in more than one place, they are higher up in the medical field, and they put in a lot of time and effort in to tending the needs of their patients. The profession of a registered nurse is one that requires us to care for the health of others.
Registered Nursing is a well-known job here in the United States and many other countries as well. RN’s play an important role in today’s society and contribute to the community a lot. Their job consist of keeping people healthy and caring for the ones who need it. Registered nurses are general-duty nurses who focus in the achievement of caring for their patients. They are under the supervision of a doctor. As I researched this career It brought more questions to my life. It became a big interest that soon I would have an opportunity to answer my own questions obviously with the help of others.
Even though nursing is a difficult and demanding profession, it can be very rewarding and exciting. To become a nurse, one must have a degree in nursing, have taken the NCLEX, and be a friendly compassionate person. Most tasks a nurse does are care planning, administering medication, and documentation. Becoming a nurse has many benefits including impacting lives, job security, and a stable income. A person aspiring to become a nurse should consider the different requirements for the career, the typical tasks of the career, and the possible benefits of the career.
