Reflections of Peace and Nationalism in Sri Lankan Literature Essay examples - It was one evening, while I was reading the novel Anil’s Ghost by Michael Ondaatjee that my ideas for a doctoral project took shape. Before reading the novel, I had heard from my Professor who taught me Post colonial studies (a course for which the novel had been prescribed) that Ondaatjee’s only novel about Sri Lanka has often been subjected to heavy criticism because of the fact that it fails to portray the island’s civil war in a credible manner. Literary scholars have subjected Anil’s Ghost, Michael Ondaatjee’s only novel about Sri Lanka, to heavy criticism on grounds that it fails to portray the island’s civil war in a “credible manner”....   [tags: Research Proposal ] 969 words

Personal Reflections: Successes and Failures Essay - In my opinion, success and failure depend on whether you have given your best shot. Even though trying does not guarantee a good outcome, it is always worth the try. If a person does not take the first step to get out of his comfort zone, how can he ever improve himself from where he began with. However, I am a very shy and really lazy with reading news or books. Moreover, in my living area, there are more people to speak Chinese rather than English. Based on my principle I believed in and exactly what motivated me to try the best of my ability in everything I do....   [tags: giving it your best shot] 614 words

Research of Technology in the Classroom Essay - ... One of the critiques for the technology used for this purpose is the fact that it does not require direct teacher student interaction. The student can work independently with minimal guidance from the teacher. The resource based approach uses technology as support resources. Using computer based technology to access information in the target language provides the students with real world activities and exposes them to the target language. This allows the student to be immersed in the language for short periods of time in order to practice the required skills or specific domains....   [tags: theories, relationships, gaps, contradictions] 1254 words

English Composition 1101 for Life! Essay - Taking ENC 1101 this fall has taught me a few valuable components in regards to composition and college life. These past few months I have learned how to participate in an argument, source my research using MLA format and how crucially important it is to submit assignments ahead of time. Prior to taking ENC 1101 I could not participate in an argument because I wasn’t able to support my points with valid evidence. However now I can continue engaging in a debate and sometimes even win. One of the assignments I thought contributed the most in developing this skill was the discussion assignments we submitted online, we had to use examples and support our opinion on the topic we were given....   [tags: personal reflections] 531 words

My Reflections on Writing a Novel Essay - “The Rebellion of Haruhi Suzumiya.” It was a novel of revolutions, a narrative of uprisings; a paperback of friendship, and, of course, a story of romance. This book was the first that I have ever completed, as I have always given up due to one reason: inspiration. As time passed by, I realized that writing this novel would be a great challenge, as it took me a while before the inspiration for writing came to me. In fact, once it finally arrived at my doorstep, inspiration began to overwhelm me to the point that I felt the emotions of the characters; I understood their viewpoints....   [tags: writing analysis] 581 words

Writing Reflection Essay - Writing is an activity which allows me to express thoughts I can not always verbalize. I enjoy writing, but typically need time to get my thoughts in order. The benefit to writing down my thoughts, as opposed to speaking them, is that I can edit and decide if my written words match my thoughts. In the following paragraphs, I will look at the class assignments and appraise them to determine what I have learned this semester. The first three topics we were assigned to write about were personal narrative, evaluation and argument....   [tags: Course Reflection] 628 words
