Executive Summary This paper is briefing of book called “Race against the Machine” written by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee. This paper focuses on the impact of technology on the current employment issues. Three explanations of current economic issues that is cyclical, stagnantion and “end of work” is provided (Brynjolfsson & McAfee, 2011). Then the idea of excessive progress in technology making man jobless is presented and to support it various arguments are put forward. Secondly the idea of technology development causing division of labor into high skilled, low skilled, capital, labor, superstars and ordinary labors is presented and explained in detail. Finally remedies for solving these issues are presented and explained. Major takeaways of this paper are mismatch between the productivity and job creation, interlink between Technology improvement and division of labor and importance of education in building stable skilled labors and in the developing a stable society. Technology has affected employment in many ways. One way is it increases jobs; it creates more opportunities for jobs over the internet. You can also apply for applications for jobs over the internet. You no longer have to drive to places where you want to work to fill out an application. Technology has also taken jobs for people. One example is building cars; instead of hand made cars, there are

Inferior technology was a large part in the downfall of Rome because of being dependent on animal and human labor, they were not able to evolve and start creating machines and new technology. They weren’t able to provide for the people. In America today, we have the complete opposite problem. Large companies that provide goods are dependent on machines and new technology to do the work and not hire many people to work for them. Having the new technology is great for companies to keep money, but people are out of a job oppertunities. If big companies and factories hired people to take over the work machines are doing, there would be a large decrease in unemployment
At the same time, the professors’ claim “computerization- by automating routine tasks” will reduce the need for workers with low skills and limit the number of jobs available to them. With the wages of highly skilled workers increasing, and the wages of lower-skilled workers decreasing, the gap between the “rich” and the “poor” will grow and statistics prove that the gap has increased since computers have become more depended
“Our Future Selves” by Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen construct views on countries’ technologies that changes the world on a daily basis. Conversely, technologies reconstruct countries in various simpler ways to live throughout economic trends. Furthermore, the quality of life is massively changing with new technologies. Consequently, wealthy countries are viewed differently from poor countries towards technological advantages. Ordinarily, technologies have made the difficult obstacles so much easier than just by hand. Industries have utilized the advanced technologies to provide huge manufacturing productivity. Moreover, Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohen have some very compelling reservations within their article, “Our Future Selves”, on the trends
Information technology has advanced in multiple ways in society, where organizations has implement the structure into their work environment. Industries have outsource their manufacturing to other places in the world and rely on telecommunication to keep the marketing. The geographic distribution has changed significantly by reducing the distance it takes to complete an operation, due to information technology. These are just a couple of examples of how this advanced technology has reshape our society and continuing.
In the last couple decades, technology has become more prominent than it had in the past. We're seeing the newer generation involved becoming more involved in technology. I believe it can benefit as well as hinder us in the coming future.
In Zeynep Tufekci’s New York Times article published in 2015, titled “The Machines are coming”, she discussed the impacts of technology on employment, stating how machines surpass humans, and the threat where machines start to take over humans’ job. Michael Littman also touched on a similar topic in his 2015 post on Livescience, titled “'Rise of the Machines' is Not a Likely Future”. Littman discussed the rate at which technology was developing, while debunking the threats posed by machines with scientific reasoning. In both articles, the authors share an opposing view on the future development of technology, where Tufekci argues that technology will overtake human capabilities eventually, while Littman provided counter arguments on how technology
We all use it, depend on it, and we couldn’t live without it. Technology holds promises for everyone’s future. Without people to create technology there will not be technology, so I do not think it is actually possible for technology to have a complete negative affect on employment. However, citizens have to stop wasting their brain and start putting it to use because I think technology will take over all of the low waged, less complex jobs. In the future, in order for a person to have a job they will have to be well qualified and be experienced in technology some type of way. In conclusion, technology is the future, and if a person wants a job in the future I think they are going to have to be well educated in the discipline they are

In an attempt to find out why most governments and economists encourage technological changes even though it increases structural unemployment, it is important to first and foremost understand the meanings of ‘technological change’ and ‘structural unemployment’. Technological change refers the improvement of processes that make it easier to produce more, efficiently and at reduced inputs. On the other hand, structural unemployment refers to a situation where skills needed to produce efficiently cannot be matched to appropriate unemployed persons due to technological change – in other words, it refers to inefficiencies in the labor market.
Theoretical model of modern economic growth shows that long-term economic growth and raise the level of per capita income depends on technological progress. This is because of without technological progress and with the increase of capital per capita, marginal returns of capital would diminish and output per capita growth would eventually stagnate (Solow, 1956; Swan, 1956). Studies have shown that “experience, skills and knowledge in the long-term economic growth is playing an increasingly important role” (World Bank, 1999). Despite how technological progress work on economic growth, and how there are different views on the role of in the end, but I am afraid no one would deny that technical progress in the important role of economic development. In this sense, for a country to achieve long-term economic growth, we must continue to promote technological progress. However, economic growth theory is analyzed in general, and usually under the assumption that in the closed economy, and technological progress in a country not normally have taken place in various departments at the same time, and now the economy are often increasingly open economy. In this way, the technological progress in different economic impact on a country may be quite different. In addition, we assume that technological progress is Hicks neutral, is to an industry in itself, but technological progress also reflects the establishment of new industries and development. The new industries and technology-intensive industries generally older than the high, the use of less labor. Even the old industries, the general trend of technological progress is labor-saving.

“One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man” (Hubbard 151). Elbert Hubbard, an American writer and the founder of Roycroft Artisan community, predicted the future with his epigram. His maxim would resonate for years to come and would be seen in the future job markets. For thousands of years, technology has fundamentally changed the way we live and interact with our environment. It has brought us from the Stone Age to the Industrial Revolution. It has taken us from the creation of the computer to the landing on the moon. Not only has technology affected the old, but also it has affected the youth. For the old and aged, modern technological innovations have brought about longer lives through medicine and other health care. People today are able to live longer, live stronger, and live happier. As for the youth and growing generations, technology has also affected them in various ways. From entertainment to education, technology has designed a generation that could never have been before imagined. But technology has not stopped there; it also has affected their future. From what careers they will pursue to how much they will earn, technology will play a big role. With the rise of new machines and equipment, thousands of jobs will be created that will range from ones that involve handling the machinery to ones that cannot be done by machinery. However on the other hand, new technology also takes away thousands of other jobs from society. As businesses look for ways to maker bigger profits, they will start replacing workers with machinery that could do the job faster and better. While the amount of unemployed may increase due to the advancement of technology, there will also b...
