The American Dream has always been a driving force in the lives of Americans. It has become a foundation of ideals and hopes for any American or immigrant. Specifically, one of the ideals that always exist is the dream of America free of class distinction. Every American hopes for a society where every person has the opportunity to be whomever he or she desire. Another ideal in the American dream is the drive to improve the quality of life. As one’s idea of the American Dream gets closer and closer, often times political and social ideals of America cause their American Dream to take a turn for the worst. The American Dream has become a motive for success for both Americans and immigrants. The dream is what draws foreigners to America and what keeps Americans living in America. For some, it means living in a land of opportunities, owning a house with a family, having a stable job, or becoming rich. The American Dream has been, and continues to be a foundation built of both ideals and hopes of Americans and immigrants. The American Dream can be defined by breaking the ideal of class distinction. The ability to go beyond what is expected of your class level, means achieving the American Dream. When Mexican immigrants first arrive in America, they belong to the lower class, only because of their rough start in Mexico. Although they have started out rough, the families from Mexico are on their way to achieve their American Dream. They are on the path to breaking free of the lower class and becoming part of middle-class. Their possibility of an increase quality of life is higher than in Mexico. The drive for an enhanced life is a main part in the drive for the American Dream. The enhanced life that Cory could have had is gone. In both cases, it shows how people pursuing the American need to accept the bad fortune as much as we do the good fortune, or else your quality of life will go downward. Time and time again, the society has put in force political and social ideals of America greatly affecting the American Dream for many. Every American resident has his or her own definition of “achieving the American Dream”. However, all American Dreams are common, in part, that all believers are drawn to the desire to go above their current social class and improve their way of life. Although many people try to achieve their own American Dream, the society possess ideals that negatively affect the American Dream for both Americans and immigrants.
