3.5.1 Primary Data Primary data refers to data observed or collected directly from first-hand experience. Primary data have collected for this research. Use the questionnaire to collect data from respondents to make research study on the factors that affecting the purchase intention of luxury fashion among generation Y in KLCC and Pavilion Mall Kuala Lumpur. The questionnaires will be distributed to 200 target respondents in KLCC and Pavilion mall. Respondents are required to answer all the 35 questions stated in questionnaires. Initially, it used about 1 week to conduct the survey, 5 hours daily from Monday to Thursday. The survey was conducted daily from 9.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. The surveys were carried out from December 2013. 3.5.2 Secondary data Secondary data analysis can be literally defined as ―second-hand‖ analysis. It refers as the information analysis that was either gathered by someone else (e.g., researcher and institutions) or for some other purpose, or often a combination of the two (Cnossen & Christine, 1997). Secondary data can be classified into two sources, which is electronic based sources and paper based sources. In this research, it concentrated more on electronic based sources to search secondary data. These sources are internet and University Putra Malaysia library online database. These sources are used to search for electronic relevant articles and journals. Besides that, the researchers also referred several reference books in UPM library. By going through all of the steps above, the researchers are able to have in-depth understanding of the theoretical concept. By using secondary data, several advantages will obtain by researchers. Conclusion In this chapter, we have discussed the formulation of research design through several successive stages that must be followed toward acquiring answers to a wide variety of research questions. Each stage must be formulated clearly in order to have a good research design and thus yield useful data to be analyzed. Overall, this chapter deals with a research design process that applied a systematic approach to data collection to ensure that one has useful data, the results can be understood, and that the procedures can be carried out by others in the future. Research design is the procedures of collecting data and involved various techniques that must be followed. Thus, a proper research design will eventually determine the success of further research findings in the Chapter 4.
